But there are plenty of modern-day flourishes, too. Think open-plan kitchen leading onto a small but charming courtyard and boutique-style bedrooms and bathrooms, complete with a copper roll-top bath. A home of this heritage comes with its quirks, and you'll need to mind your head on the low ceilings and beams in places. *One well-behaved dog under 28kg is welcome to accompany you during your stay, or two smaller dogs on request.

*The ceiling and beams in some areas are on the low side, so you may have to duck. While this only adds to the charm, it might not suit taller guests.
