Area Kirkby Lonsdale is a charming market town located in the Lune Valley, halfway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town has a 13th-century Market Charter and was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. Today, Thursday is market day, giving tourists the chance to explore the town's unique independent stores and numerous still-standing structures from the 17th and 18th centuries. Additionally, the town was a nominee for the 2016 High Street of the Year Award. Turner loved to visit this area of the Lune Valley, and Ruskin made it renowned; his "view" of the valley is still breath-taking. The peaceful country lanes are perfect for exploration by vehicle, bike, or even horseback.
Region Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
