Please be wary when booking Broadway Farm, Offerton,Hathersage. We, two couples, all in their 70's stayed there the 1st week of June 2019.We wanted a cottage with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which is what we thought we had booked. On arrival we were told two bedrooms had been made up for us and we were not to use the 3rd bedroom as it was made up for the next set of visitors. I demurred but was told in an unfriendly manner that the owner (Claire) would rather "take the bedding off the bed than allow us to use it". I very much regret that we did not immediately get in touch with Sykes Cottages but one of our party did not want to rock the boat after reading in the small print that the owner could tell us to leave the property. Needless to say we shall not be bac to Broadway Farm.and perhaps not to The Peak District either such was our disenchantment.

Broadhay is in a beautiful location that is also perfect for day’s out Mam Tor, Eyam, Bakewell etc.. Thank you, Clare, for your hospitality, Broadhay has been a wonderful welcome back after a day exploring, so clean, cosy & comfortable. Won’t hesitate to return or recommend.

Lovely rural landscape with a nice feeling of isolation but close enough to the local village for supplies etc.. A comfortable and clean house. Lots of room for the family. Claire and Andrew were very friendly in making sure everything was to our satisfaction

We had a wonderful 3-week stay at Broadhay Farm! Andrew & Claire were wonderful hosts. They were available and friendly but not intrusive. The house was as described and worked very well for my husband and I and our four children. The house was comfortably furnished and we had everything we needed to cook several meals during our stay. Our kids loved watching the sheep and being able to take several walks throughout the area. This property is away from it all yet close to everything at the same time. We highly recommend this property and hope to make a return visit at some point in the future!

We booked as 2 couples in their 70's, wanting 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and single beds for 1 couple.. Broadhay met criteria. Got to destination after 9 hour journey from Devon having suffered much delay from motorway accidents and heavy traffic, so very tired. Kept owners updated of ETA via text messages during journey. On arrival, owner did not say "Welcome to Peak District - hope you enjoy your holiday", but rather seemed put out that we were so late (met us even though had in earlier phone conversation said she would unlock house and leave key in door). We were also harangued with Sykes Rental Contract and "Broadhay Rules" - first things in the house book (which contained contact details for doctors, dentists, hospitals, but no info on pubs, restaurants, shops or walks). Also, told we must empty bins and leave house in same state as found. Owner said she had made up 2 bedrooms as we had requested, ie 1 double and 1 twin, but we shouldn't use the 3rd bedroom as it had been prepared for the party following us. We said people have different needs - maybe a partner snores or is a light sleeper, etc. She would not listen and even said she would have removed the bedding entirely than let us use the 3rd bedroom if we had a need. 2nd couple arrived Monday and spent a bad first night as husband coughing and wheezing when lying down. Next night wife used 3rd bedroom, but removed all the bedding except the bottom sheet and re-used pillow and duvet from her twin bed. We need to know for future if owners can make such demands (not use a bedroom). We paid for a 3 bedroomed property. This woman very much needs to improve the way she talks to her paying guests. Our holiday was spoilt before it began.

Had a wonderful week at idyllic Broadhay surrounded by spring lambing activities.. The house was surprisingly spacious, and perfectly presented. We received a lovely welcome on arrival and made to feel completely at home! Broadhay is a short walk via the farm track and public footpaths into the village of Hathersage (small grocery stores, post office, pubs, gas station, outdoor activity stores, and the David Mellor design centre). Hathersage, itself, is very central to a wonderful and fascinating area of the Peak District: yours to discover!

A really friendly welcome off claire .. The cottage was lovely and warm with all the facilities needed and big spacious rooms in a nice quite location. And very handy for Hathersage with it's shops and places to eat.

Stunning, secluded location and a warm welcome made this the perfect break with lots to see and do in the local area. The cottage is like a tardis, providing ample space and also separate space for the whole family. A real home from home environment, furnished to a high standard with every attention to detail, especially in the well-equipped kitchen and dining room where six adults were seated comfortably with plenty of elbow room!

A wonderful cosy cottage with exceptionally friendly owners.. Everything clean, tidy and with enough little extras to make the stay extra enjoyable. The boot room at the back helped for storage of muddy wellies, and the downstairs shower was lovely. Very well located for good walks or short drives to nearby towns. The farm track is steep but was perfectly manageable in our ‘normal’ family cars. It was delightful to be woken by a cockerel crowing and to have the view of grazing sheep during breakfast. Very highly recommended.

Cottage is in lovely isolated location down a rough track which was great for us but might be an issue for some cars!

We travelled as a group of friends for a weekend break.. We were treated to fabulous weather which enhanced our time away. The cottage was very comfortable with good facilities. We were greeted by Andrew and shown around the cottage, Claire popped round to make sure all was OK later. We enjoyed being surrounded by the countryside and watching the sheep with their lambs, especially the breakfast and tea rush! There were at least 6 cockerels but these did not disturb all of us! Some of us enjoyed local walks (but storm Hector had disturbed the stepping stones so we had to paddle across the river!) in the lovely countryside while others met us in Hathersage for a much needed drink. A lovely place to wind down.

This is a lovely cottage set in a picturesque landscape combining a traditional working farm with the peaks in the distance.. A short walk from the Derwent river and a short drive from fantastic walks and local pubs.

We stayed here over the New Year period and found Broadhay to be ideal. It is much larger than the photos give it credit for, and the standard of decoration and furnishings is very good. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has excellent appliances. The location is quiet and the owners are very friendly; nothing is too much trouble and there was a small welcome package of necessities such as bread and milk. It's a delightful place in a lovely part of the world. It is reasonably priced and has everything you need.

Spent a week in this lovely cottage on the outskirts of Hathersage. It had all the amenities you could wish for for a self catering break. The local pub is a quick 15 min walk away. The owners were right next door should we have needed anything and were very friendly and chatty. A perfect base from which to explore the Peak District from.

Have had a lovely Birthday weekend away in Derbyshire largely due to picking Broadhay to stay at.. The farmhouse was fabulous, and I have to agree with other reviewers in that the beds are indeed 'extremely' comfy and the website photos do not capture the size of the property! It is much bigger in reality so felt very special. There is more than enough room and plenty of storage/cupboard space if you like to fully unpack. There are lots of lovely touches/decor and the location is stunning and peaceful. Would love to return in the summer months and experience Claire's hospitality again. If we were to be picky the steep unmade track could be a consideration to some and maybe a few coat hooks wouldn't go a miss (we may have missed them having fun!), and maybe on the back of the bathroom door. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Broadhay and wouldn't hesitate to book again if we were returning to the area.

Just spent an amazing weekend in Hathersage and based ourselves at Broadhay - Claire and Andy made us very welcome and this is a gorgeous cottage on their farm with stunning views across the valley. The house had generous bedrooms and beds, was warm and cosy and fitted our needs completely. There is plenty of space for everyone and although we had six adults you never felt you were on top of each other. The countryside around is stunning and the silence was golden (especially when you come from London where you are constantly surrounded by noise). Being woken up by the cockerels and sheep was really good. A short walk to the Plough (really good food and atmosphere) and close to Hathersage and what looked like some great walks (if you are so inclined). Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to get away and explore the Peak District and you could not ask for better hosts

The location is out of this world, so peaceful and quiet with fantastic views all around.. The sheep in the field were an added bonus which the children just adored. We couldn't fault anything at all with the property, it was fabulous and the owners couldn't have been any more helpful; nothing was too much bother. The beds were so comfortable and we loved all the little touches throughout the house. It was a fantastic holiday and cannot recommend this property enough; they don't get much better than this!!

Wow this holiday let has everything: fantastic views across the rolling countryside, comfortable beds, fabulous hosts, lots of space for everyone and peace and quiet in abundance. This is the place to come and relax and forget about everything. The holiday let is the best I have ever stayed in. I loved waking up in the morning and seeing the sheep in the field. The beds were so very comfortable and the cottage had everything we could possibly want and so much more!! The walk in shower was lovely and kitchen had every type of dish/utensil you could ever wish for. Couldn't fault anything at all about this place and the hosts Claire and Andrew were so lovely and accommodating too. Will be back very soon as fell in love with the place.

We have just returned from a long weekend at Broadhay and could not have been happier with every aspect of our stay. Claire was wonderfully warm and welcoming and we were delighted to find that Broadhay ("Grandma's cottage") was beautifully kitted out with everything we needed. The kitchen is very well equipped. It is a substantial property(much bigger than the photos might suggest) decorated tastefully with some really charming touches. We live in a very old farmhouse ourselves and love quirky features, beams and interesting nooks and crannies. Claire clearly has an admirable attention to detail and the property was spick and span. It is clear that this farmhouse is part of the Bramhall's family heritage and we felt as if we were privileged to be staying in a much loved family home. We were also captivated by the rare breed sheep (zwartbles) I am sure we could have hand fed them, they were so tame and friendly. We would love to return. Thank you so much Claire, for being a part of making my significant decade celebration weekend such a success. We had a splendid time.

We travelled as an extended family of 6 and found Broadhay an excellent place to stay for half term. Claire and Andrew were very welcoming and helpful during our stay. The photos on here really don't do the room size justice. The reception rooms and bedrooms are all spacious. The kitchen is low-ceilinged for tall people but very clean and has everything needed including washing machine and dishwasher. Beds were probably the most comfortable we have had at a rental property. Despite being a cold week, the heating system warmed the house up quickly when needed and it felt cosy. The hard floors throughout the downstairs made it easy to clean up after ourselves in the wet weather. We managed to do a couple of walks direct from the cottage itself and Castleton and other key towns are all within a 15 minute or so drive. Didn't manage to get time to do archery or shooting unfortunately, but we will be back!

We thought this place was great. Stayed there as a group of forty something girlfriends. The location is perfect on a working farm in a secluded location whilst still walkable (about 20 minutes) to hathersage. Owners emailed beforehand with easy to follow directions and were very welcoming on arrival. The cottage is spacious and actually is much bigger than the photos on the website do it justice. It was warm and cosy and absolutely spotless. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and everything was in working order. Loads of lovely walks on the doorstep and the plough pub at the bottom of the lane does great food if you don't feel like cooking. All in all a good value, well positioned property. The only slight downside (though I am being picky) was that the main bathroom was on ground level so a bit of a pain if you have to get up for a pee in the night and could do with a bit of a makeover. Would recommend this place for a group of friends or a family who enjoy the beautiful Peak District. I would definitely go back

On arrival the dishwasher was not working. An engineer arrived three and a half days after our arrival. He had been called to fix the same problem before and told the owner he would need to order a new part. A previous guest review in their visitor book stated they had problems with the dishwasher too. We were told on arrival to clean the property before we left, yet when we opened the cutlery drawer it was filthy. The bedroom furniture and floors were dusty and dirty, having not been cleaned for some time. The washbasins had not been cleaned around or behind the taps. The plumbing also needs repair as the hot taps all hiss and splatter water as soon as you turn them on. Our daughter fell over several times due to the cover rail between two rooms which needs to be replaced (see photos). The garden is full of nettle bushes which meant the children could not play outside as they were stung. The clothes lines is tangled in briars which meant a third of it was inaccessible and I was stung hanging up washing. Our daughter broke a bowl which we informed them of immediately and paid the £30 for a replacement. On the way home we received a 'phone call from them accusing us of ruining their towels and breaking breakfast bowls and demanding payment for replacements. Several of their breakfast bowls were chipped on our arrival and should not have been there.
