The village of Hirwaun sits at the north end of the Cynon Valley, four miles north-west of the town of Aberedare, South Wales. Within the village there are a selection of independent shops, convenience stores and two pubs, the Prince of Wales and the Cardiff Arms. Hirwaun has a rich industrial history most notably known for the Hirwaun Ironworks which opened in 1765. The village sits on the Heads of Valleys Road and serves as a good base for exploring the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons National Park). The thriving town of Aberdare lies four miles away and boasts a great range of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, plus a rich cultural history as well as geological splendour to offer visitors.
