Mrs Callaly
November 2018
Having planned to take my elderly mother from Newport, Shropshire, for a week's holiday with my sister in Abergavenny, I suddenly found myself needing to make alternative arrangements when we heard that my sister had become unwell.. It was too short notice to book online, so I called Sykes who checked and established that my initial two choices of properties couldn't be made available in time, but the staff were very helpful, calling me back and suggesting others I could look at. My third attempt was The Old Cow Barn near Laugharne and we made the 150 mile journey that same Monday afternoon for a 5-night stay. We arrived after dark and were delighted to find this cluster of three converted barns surrounding a courtyard area beautifully illuminated with strings of colourful led lights and dancing Christmassy images projected upon the white walls of the barns. It was a jolly and welcoming sight. Upon entering the barn, we were further warmed to see a lovely lighted Christmas tree and other festive decorations - and a very nice welcome pack on the table. The furnishing is simple, cosy and well-thought out, with lots of lovely beams, a gorgeous mezzanine floor with its twin bedroom and own bathroom in addition to the two ground floor bedrooms and wet room. My other sister and brother in law joined us for three days and we all really loved this holiday home. The owners were really kind and helpful, too, and we could not fault the hospitality. We also enjoyed exploring Laugharne, as well as Tenby and Carmarthen which are within easy reach by car. We would definitely recommend Sykes and the Laugharne Barns to anyone considering a holiday in this region.
