Area The Duke of Argyll founded Inveraray, the traditional county seat of Argyll, in 1745. It is situated next to the magnificently restored Inveraray Castle on Lake Fyne. The village was planned to house employees of the castle estate, a woollen mill, as well as fisherman working in the lucrative herring trade. Many of the properties in existence today have significant architectural value and are protected. The town now has a variety of stores, eateries, and cafes in addition to the castle and many other tourist attractions. The notorious Courthouse and Prison, a lightship turned floating museum. Attend the Highland Games or visit the magnificent National Trust Crarae Gardens. The hills surrounding Inveraray and the Cruachan Power Station, which is housed inside a mountain, offer excellent opportunities for hiking, biking, and fishing. Both Oban and Kilmartin, which has Neolithic stones, are pleasant drives. There are several attractions, all of which are surrounded by breathtaking surroundings.
