Upon arrival the owner of the cottage Hazel had left a welcome pack consisting of some juice, cheese and oatcakes, Tunnocks teacakes. Small gesture but a nice touch.
The cottage is very spacious and nicely furnished, very comfortable.
There is freeview TV and wifi - albeit a little sketchy, our firestick didnt work due to this. There are a selection of kids games and some books etc.
There is a wood burning stove and enough kindling, fire starters provided to get you going for a few days if required - across from the cottage there is a log store with plenty of chopped wood.
Reasonable sized fridge, 4 zone hob, grill / oven, dish washer and a washing machine in the cottage. Beds are new and comfy. Adult room doesnt have a wardrobe, only drawers. The kids room has drawers and tons of wardrobe space. Shower is good and ample warm water.
The surrounding area is a haven for wildlife - there are scores of wild bird species and 3 barn owls in the immediate vicinity which we saw regularly. The woods across the road have an elusive Capercaillie. I continually heard a calling Golden eagle and eventually saw it right outside the cottage and couldnt get my phone out quick enough to get the photo!!!!
There are sheep and cattle in many of the surrounding fields so adviseable to keep dogs on leads until you turn corners and have line of sight.
The surrounding area is a heavenly place for dogs as there a thousands of wild rabbits and game birds to chase, our Labrador had a great time chasing them without any fatalities thankfully.
Nearest shops are 10 miles away in Kirriemuir - there is a large Co-op which will have all you need and also a smaller Spar.
One piece of advice is to keep the cottage gate closed as there are 4 sheep which have free run of the farm and when we arrived the garden had lots of sheep droppings, there are also some rabbit burrows in the garden which can we hard to see so be mindful of this to prevent accidents.
This cottage is an ideal place to base yourselves as you are right on the doorstep of some phenominal walks within a short drive. I would stay here again no probs.
