This architect-renovated home in the centre of Modica is a real find. Sitting behind gates, we were intrigued to see what lay behind. The house is constructed of warm local stone, which contrasts beautifully with the grey paintwork. There are multiple terraces, balconies and courtyards to enjoy – our favourite is the terrace with a lemon tree as its focal point – it's the perfect spot for an alfresco supper. Some of the rooms offer beautiful views of Modica, and there's an exercise room if you fancy clocking up some miles on the treadmill.

Or you could take a stroll around this stunning city with its Baroque buildings, like the Cathedral of St. George. There are restaurants and shops on your doorstep, or if you fancy a day at the beach, the golden sands of the Marina di Modica beach are 15 kilometres away.
