For those seeking a simple stay in Lake Como, we may have just the ticket. This contemporary apartment is equipped with a compact kitchen for cooking light bites. It also features a living room sofa bed, which is particularly handy when travelling with the little ones. The balcony off the bedroom is a nice touch, too, offering a vantage point for people-watching day or night. It's just a short stroll to the centre of town, where you'll find cafes and restaurants aplenty, and the lake is equally within reach. All in all, this home measures up nicely for a solo escape, a couple's break or a holiday with the kids.

Home truths:
*At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
*There's no lift here. You'll need to be able to climb stairs to reach the entrance of the home.
*You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.
