Feedback for The Dairy, Haworth.. Starting from our receipt of the directions and instructions from Caroline and a Tim. These were concise and accurate. I spoke to Tim before we set off, ( to check whether it was a freezer and a fridge; it is a fridge with an icebox which was ample for our needs. (What a pleasant man.) When we arrived the parking for our mid size car (Suzuki cross over) was easy and next to the kitchen door. Access to the keys was via the coded lock box in the adjacent doorway. Two mortice keys because the kitchen door is a two piece “stable door”. On entry to the kitchen the whole cottage smelled nice and clean ( with that “ comfortable feeling”) It lived up to the pictures but they do not do it justice. We have stayed in a lot of cottages where things were not finished off, I.e. loose taps, shower doors not fitting fully, there is none of that here. Things are solidly fastened. The fittings are good quality. There is even an ironing board with an iron tucked to the side of the wardrobe should you require them. Tim and Caroline could not have been more helpful or considerate. They were not intrusive but they obviously cared about our having a nice break. ( a neighbour doing building work had to turn off the water supply for a little while but Tim and Caroline brought us bottles of water round, unbidden, beforehand. )
We did not use the bath, but it looks lovely. I am quite large 6’2 and sixteen stone so I like a good bed. The bed was very adequate and comfortable. The toilet is solid and steady. The shower cubicle is big enough for me and the shower water delivery was plenty. There is plenty of hot water and the shower thermostat works very easily, but you need to turn the shower on a little while before it achieves its set temperature which does not then fluctuate. There is an easy to use thermostat in the bedroom which allows you to regulate the heating throughout the cottage to your taste throughout the day, unlike some other cottages who assume, wrongly, that you won’t need heat during the daytime. The towels and bedding, along with the furnishings are very good quality. There is a low beam in the bedroom and the bathroom door is low but they are well padded and “sign posted”. Sitting on the sofa in front of the fire ( easy to light, draws well and doesn’t smoke like some other cottages. ) watching a film then the football was my idea of heaven. ( we do not drink alcohol but Yorkshire tea and Taylor’s coffee help with the experience.)
We visited the Bronte museum and the church, my wife was thrilled. But “Hilly Haworth” lived up to its name. We had a meal with friends in the Fleece, it was very good and the pub is a really traditional one, well worth a visit. ( four meals from the specials board plus four puddings £57.) We walked back in the dark with owls calling in the trees, it was really nice. The Villette cafe bakery near the church does lovely Yorkshire shortcrust pasties, bread ( the whole meal uncut tastes very good,) and cakes. The fish and chips nearby are good. To go to this area you turn right out of the kitchen door, fit and turn on your oxygen mask and good shoes. If you turn left you go downhill over the railway gantry and there is a Spar convenience store for milk, papers, magazines and groceries. It has a free to use atm. You get a lovely view of the Worth Valley train station there. The fish and chip shop nearby is fine as well.
Finally, a few things that others may like to know. Our two phones, one Vodafone and one EE worked very well in the cottage. I brought some clerical work with me and the lighting and seating arrangements were fine for this. ( walking up to the post office with the paperwork for posting in the rain was “character building” once my breathing got back to normal. ) reading in bed was lovely, plenty of lights and a nice padded headboard. There is a tv in the bedroom but we didn’t use it. The sofas are very comfortable and not too low.
The tv in the living room was big enough and had spare HDMI ports. I like to use nowtv for films, these worked flawlessly. I also brought my Chromecast which allowed me to “ cast” to the tv and watch the Saturday match on bt sport and the midweek European matches. All the matches worked seamlessly with no buffering so I assume an Amazon firestick or Netflix accounts would as well. The Wi-fi works very well throughout the cottage. Thank you Caroline and Tim.
