Area
Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Shropshire, this charming 700-year-old market town is at the northern eastern extremity of the world-famous Wenlock Edge. The town is a jumble of winding alleyways, black and white half timbered houses, limestone cottages, specialty stores, and high-quality pubs and restaurants; it is widely recognised as the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games. Wander through the fascinating Norman church, the Old Gaol House, and the ruins of the magnificent 12th-century priory and Guildhall. Wenlock Edge, which is 15 miles long, towers over the town and is a great place to go hiking, biking, or horseback riding due to its scenic location. Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, and Ludlow are all nearby, as is Ironbridge, a World Heritage Centre that features nine museums and the Blists Hill Victorian Village. There's also the incredible Wroxeter Roman City and the magnificent Stokesay Castle.

Region
A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
