Hallam's Yard is a terraced cottage in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales market town of Skipton. The cottage sleeps five people in three bedrooms (two doubles and one single) with a family bathroom. The rest of the accommodation consists of an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area. Outside the cottage is parking for one car. Just a couple of minutes walk from the canal and the amenities of the town, Hallam's Yard is a superb cottage for a Dales holiday.

Area
Skipton is well placed for visiting all that the Dales have to offer. This market town boasts an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. Enjoy a canal trip on a traditional barge or visit Embsay Steam Railway, which has regular steam train excursions at the weekend and is only 1 mile away.

Note: Even though there is parking for one car, access to the property is not direct from the car park and does require guests to walk approx 75 yards along a row of cottages. Note: The stairs in the cottage are steep and may not be suitable for the very young or elderly.

Fabulous situation in the heart of Skipton.. Comfortable accommodation in pretty terraced cottage. The Royal Shepherd pub around the corner serves excellent food and the canal is so close. We had a magical week in our holiday home.

Loved the living space.. It was cosy and inviting. The location is superb being so close to the High Street, canal, pubs and restaurants. It was our 2nd time in the Hallam's Yard area and we will definitely be going back.

The cottage is well placed for all the local amenities.. It is quite comfortable with the only downsides being very poor light for reading in the lounge and a sometimes noisy heating system.

The cottage was very conveniently located in Skipton just off the Main Street, yet even with this closeness surprisingly quiet and very comfortable.. The allocated parking space was very useful and it meant no stressing about where to park after going on for the day! If you had little ones like us the only slight issue we had was to make sure you move all the low lying breakable ornaments....... It was a fantastic week and we may well be back in the future thank you

We booked the cottage for family members.. They loved it: the location, the high standard of furnishing, towels, welcoming Yorkshire Parkin cake and the wide selection of DVD's . It would have been good to have a washing line as the weather was good. I know they are expensive to run but a tumble drier for the wet days would also be good. My family would like you to pass on their personal thanks to the owner, for the obvious care and attention to the fabric and decor. Thank you. .

The main thing about this listing is the same thing that occurred with the other Holiday cottage I rented through Sykes last year - lack of pertinent information.. The first thing that happened was that I didn't know how to lock the door. It may have seemed to the owner that it was obvious how to do it, but coming from abroad I was unfamiliar with that kind of door. It was extremely difficult to contact the owner, though Sykes tried very hard to do so. It was only that I had talked to a neighbour previously, who showed me how to get to the cottage - again not in the details - that I knocked on his door and asked him how to lock/unlock the door, and he kindly came and showed me, by which time Sykes had got through to the owner who said that I had to lift the handle to engage the mechanism. How would I have known this? Why not put it in the details. Why did I have to bother the neighbour about it? The cottage was as described in the details, it was the only suitable cottage available at the time I wanted to come over. Being a cottage for families, having three bedrooms, I would suggest they get a washer/dryer combined, as it was very inconvenient having to go to the Whiterose laundry on Brougham street to dry clothes. It would have been helpful if there had been better information about rubbish collection. When we got there both the blue and green bins were full to overflowing and obviously had not been emptied for a while. Although there were instructions about which of the two bins would be collected in which week, they were not clear as it said leave the bin at the end of the yard by the wall. Did they mean the end of Hallam's yard or the end of the bit of yard that belonged to number 21? And which wall were they meant to be left by? It was obvious other renters didn't know either. On the day the binmen were meant to come we left the bin where it was - the same place where all the other bins for the cottages were kept - it was the wrong place - because it wasn't collected. It was important to us to have a parking space as we had a rental car - if I was the owner I would put a sign on the wall stating which space was for number 21.

We were looking to stay in or around skipton for a week, and wanted 3 bedrooms for our kids to sleep in separately. Our first impression was that the property was a little bit small and dark, however we warmed to the place over the course of the week. Our kids are aged 1.5 and 4. The stairs are steep although handily there is a door at the bottom which stops our youngest climbing them. Upstairs was a different story with the risk of a tumble so we were careful and watched our toddler like a hawk when he was upstairs. The property was clean and tidy when we arrived. We had to move some breakable stuff out of reach of little hands though, however it was mostly child friendly. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. 2 double bedrooms and a single. One of the double bedrooms has lots of storage space and a bit of extra floor space. The other double has a chest of drawers but it's pretty tight (no space for a travel cot and no hanging space which was fine for us). The single bedroom has a small wardrobe. There were bedside tables throughout. There is also a travel cot which we didn't try as we brought our own (paranoid!). The bathroom is a standard affair with toilet basin and bath with electric shower everything clean and worked fine. There were some nice touches such as bath toys for the kids etc. The Wi-Fi worked fine and there was a coffee machine which we didn't try. Microwave was a bit annoying as the timer doesn't work so we had to time stuff using phones etc. There was a high chair which came in handy. It was nice to have some essentials provided in the kitchen. The owners obviously care and this sort of thing makes a difference. I'm talking about stuff like cling film, washing up liquid etc. Overall we had a great holiday. Generally we aren't the the people who would do the same holiday twice so we won't be back, but we certainly don't regret booking 21 Hallams yard.

Brilliant location right in the centre of Town & minutes from everything. Easy to find & parking space invaluable - although it is set slightly higher than the property, which means you have to lift luggage down from a wall ! Facilities are as would be expected and everything was really neat , tidy and commendably clean. Seniors might note however that the internal staircase is quite steep & includes a curve. Although a fairly typical feature for a listed cottage, some folks might find it a bit challenging. Considering its central location it was really quiet & the little outside patio was really nifty - most helpful when returning from a walk & needing to remove your muddy boots etc.. All the neighbours were really friendly & helpful. We stayed for a week and would happily have stayed longer. All in all this was a lovely holiday cottage & we would not hesitate to book again. Skipton is a terrific town with a wonderful market, lots of decent independent shops & some totally excellent pubs for evening meals. Top marks all round.

What a stunning property in an amazing location! Literally a stones throw away from a lovely pub, the canal and the town centre. On arrival we were greeted by a cake, milk in the fridge for a brew and very helpful notes and local advice.

We booked this cottage for a base to explore the dales and to be near a town in case the weather as poor (which it was). We didn't realise just how central the house is, however it's in a really quiet location. It's what estate agents would describe as cosy, but has a nice gas fire, games for the kids and a good selection of DVDs. The house is less than a minutes walk from the centre of Skipton. The nearby Aagrah is worth a try as are the many many pubs. The house has newly installed wifi. If you have a baby, bring blackout blinds as the curtains in the larger bedroom are thin. Overall this was a great cottage in a central location and we'll use it again.

A lovely cottage in a really good location. It was well thought out for adults and children with plenty of books, games, DVDs etc. There was useful info folders and signs up around the house. Our 3 yr old loved it too and was instantly relaxed and happy - the cake left for us after a long journey helped!

Stayed for a long weekend while up for a wedding - 2 couples and 2 young children. This is a well stocked and very comfortable cottage in a great location. Owners were very helpful with questions and great to have tea, milk and cake in stock ready for us on arrival after long journeys.

A very comfortable cottage - had everything we needed. Because we don't drive the cottage was very close to the coach station. In the centre of town - lots of shops and places to eat. Skipton is a lovely place and the people are all very friendly. We enjoyed our holiday and would like to go back.

We stayed here for a week at the end of May 2014 with our 2 young children. The cottage is in a superb location, being only a minutes walk to the high street and about the same to the canals. The off street parking space is also a huge plus point, especially in a town and busy as Skipton. The cottage has a very comfortable, open plan lounge kitchen area downstairs and 3 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The lounge has plenty of seating, even if 5 people were staying and has a good selection of DVDs, board games and books. While the kitchen is basic it is just what is needed for a weeks stay as there is a washing machine (vital if you have young children...and why we decided not to stay at the cottage a few doors up as we were informed it did not have one), a fridge/freezer, a cooker and a small microwave. The two double bedrooms are large and comfortable and one of them has a blackout blind. The small room would be more than adequate for a single child or adult. The double bedroom that overlooks the parking area also has the cupboard where the boiler is located. This can be a little noisy if you don't switch the heating off over night. The bathroom was what you'd expect from a holiday cottage with both a bath and a shower over the bath. Not much more to say really. Like I said the location was superb and there are plenty of pubs offering good value meals, however we only ate out once during our stay so can only recommend Bizzie Lizzie's, the fish and chip shop round the corner from the cottage. Both Tesco and Morrisons are about a 10 minute walk away...and about the same in the car if the high street is busy. The swimming pool is about a 20 minute walk away and on Thursdays and Saturdays they have a big inflatable construction in the main pool for older kids to jump around on and a small slide and floats in the small training pool. We were around £10 for all 4 of us (as our youngest is only 2) and there were no time limits when we went on a Thursday afternoon. Great value swim. One thing to note is that there there is no Wi-fi in the cottage and the mobile signal on our 02 phones was not the best. However if you need the internet for any reason there is a BT/Fon Wi-fi hotspot in the area that gives one hour access for £4, 24 hour access for £6 and 5 day access for £18. The speed is good but I found the best signal was in the living room with the signal being pretty much out of range up stairs. I'd certainly recommend this cottage to a family looking for a comfortable base from which to explore Skipton and the surrounding area. I would agree with the other review that states the accommodation is not posh as it is not but it doesn't claim to be a luxury rental. What it is is a nice place to spend a holiday and we were sad to leave. The location and parking space heavily outweigh the wood chip on the upstairs walls.

The location of this property is absolutely perfect; you can walk to everything but it is quiet. The sitting room was very cosy, and a great place for our family. I loved all the art work around the cottage.

I rented this cottage for a week to have a small family reunion and it was a wonderful stay. These are not posh accommodations, but a cozy home filled with comfortable furniture and thoughtfully decorated with watercolor reproductions. Even when the weather outside was cold and wet, we had wonderful evenings gathered around the gas fire in the living room sharing stories. And the guys had an easy walk around the corner to the local pub, The Royal Shepherd Inn. Upon arrival I also found a welcome cake plus fresh milk in the fridge with tea in the cupboard--what a nice touch. The kitchen has all the necessary appliances and dishes/utensils for a small family. Although I admit the oven was a bit tricky to light, everything seemed to be in working order. There was a washing machine but no dryer. The kitchen table was a bit small--more comfortable for two than four. The bathroom had a full-size tub and with power shower that put out plenty of hot water. It could do with a large towel rack however. There are two double bedrooms and one single. The single is quite small and a bit crowded with both a desk and small wardrobe, but the double rooms were good size. All of the beds were very comfortable and that's what matters to me. The stairs are a bit steep but there are handrails on both sides. It would not do for someone with limited mobility however. The living room had lots of comfortable seating places and a television with a good selection of channels as well as a shelf of DVD movies for viewing. There were also books to read and boxed games. If you need a wifi connection, you can go to Costa Coffee at the bottom of Sheep Street where they offer it for free. And the location could not be better. Just a very short walk up the lane ("yard") led to a passage way directly onto the High Street where it intersects with Sheep Street with all the wonderful shops and cafes. We had a fantastic Sunday roast at the Woolly Sheep Inn (reservations in advance highly recommended as very small and very popular). In the other direction is the canal where you can take canal boat rides or walk the canal path. The train station is a 15 minute walk as are two major supermarkets (Morrison's and Tescos). This cottage is so close to everything, yet it's completely quiet. One note, however, on location. Even though the address in 21 Hallam's Yard, the actual parking space, house number and key box are at the back entrance on Canal Yard (there is no house number on the front door). The only negatives I encountered were that upon arrival I discovered that several of the clean towels left for us were still damp from washing and the single bedroom had not been made up. I managed to find bedding in the cupboard of the larger bedroom to make up the single bed and a call to Sykes Cottage office (the leasing agent) brought additional dry towels the next morning. So any negatives quickly taken care of. I truly enjoyed my stay here and would definitely rent this cottage again when I am in the area.

The property is old and needs updating. We encountered a few problems. We were 2 people travelling together needing separate rooms. After finding only one room made up on arrival I called the ph no provided & was assured someone would come in and make up a second bed. On returning from a night out we found it hadn't been done and eventually found linen to do it ourselves. We also had just one towel each for a 7 night stay. I called the no again in the morning and we received 3 more towels 2 days later, an odd no 4 2 people but I didn't want to call yet again. We also had to improvise with the clothes line as there wasn't anywhere to attach it on the opposite wall. Thank goodness for wheelie bins. Good points were location, a sunny backyard, a man who put out the bins and a well stocked kitchen.
