The property is beautiful, large and close to town. Could do with a lick of paint in areas and some repairs to some doors and cupboards.
Sykes do not mention in their advertising that this property has locks on every door. The locks in use require a key and lock once closed. They can then only be opened with a key. They are like front door locks. I stayed at this property with young children. If I had have known this about the doors I would not have booked due to the risk of them getting locked in a room and unable to get out. All the rooms should have spare keys incase of loss or lock in. They do not.
On my stay one of the bedroom doors shut behind my brother and locked and the key was inside the room. There was no spare for that room. Maintenance was called as all his things were in the room and obviously he needed these and also a bed for the night.
Maintenance do not have spare keys or a master key! This is a safety issue. I only thank god that my 6 year old wasn’t in there because we had to then wait for a locksmith.
When the locksmith arrived he used a card to open the door causing no damage and the same lock worked fine afterwards. This was inconvenient to have to wait for a locksmith but we were glad to have access and my brother able to get his possessions.
I left a review on Sykes saying this issue was resolved and providing locks were removed I would stay again.
However, after leaving this review £115 was taken from my bank for a ‘new lock’ and call out charge.
I am now trying to claim this money back via Sykes but am not able to speak to anyone directly and have to wait for replies to messages.
This is not my error and lockouts have happened to people before. Why have locks not been removed, this is a safety issue and I should not be charged for the property only owning one key for a bedroom that is used frequently for children.
I will not be staying again. And I would not recommended.
