Herne Bay's seafront is home to the world's first freestanding purpose-built Clock Tower, built in 1837 which looks down onto the well-kept promenade. As expected when visiting an English seaside town, there are many eateries serving everything from traditional fish and chips to exotic delicacies, and of course, no seaside town is complete without an ice cream parlour and Herne Bay has two! The historic city of Canterbury is only 7 miles away, with its famous cathedral and historic past, offering theatres, museums and art galleries as well as shops, restaurants, and trips along the river. For a day of cobbled streets and browsing around quaint little shops, then make for Whitstable, famous for its Oyster festival and a popular harbour town at any time of year. Herne Bay is ideally situated for exploring this part of the Kent coast.
