Sat above Freshwater Bay this distinctive caponier apartment linked to Fort Redoubt, a Palmerston Fort built under Prime Minister Lord Palmerston during the Victorian period in 1856, is steeped in history.

The fort was originally constructed to provide defence against the French who might land at Freshwater Bay in order to attack the Needles battery. The caponier was constructed to enable the soldiers to shoot along the moat if the enemy should attack the Redoubt in this way.
