August 2019
What appeared to be a beautiful cottage was full of problems. We stayed for a week in August and were quite pleased with how pretty the cottage was....until we went inside. The kitchen is dirty and quite honestly, needs to be ripped out and replaced, ovens dirty, fridge in kitchen actually yellowed and glasses and cutlery needed more than to be put through the dishwasher. Some of the glasses actually had paint fingerprints on them as though they had been used for cleaning brushes. We had to borrow glasses from the pub and buy our own, because we didn't want to use the ones in the cottage. Some of the towels had brown stains on them, we queried this with the housekeeper, who told us "don't worry, that's fake tan from the previous people last week". Even the washing machine had mould on the inside! Needless to say, we didn't use the washing machine. The lounge has broken furniture, the sofa was like a see-saw and one of the wing back chairs in the lounge had a broken leg. The beds were so uncomfortable that we all woke up with headaches and back aches every morning. We couldn't leave any food out because there were swarms of flies in the house which apparently, were the farmer's fault because he intensively farms his cattle down the lane and never lets them see fresh air. If you want a great family holiday, there are plenty of places to stay in North Devon where you will have a fabulous time.... this is NOT one of them.
