We have just returned from a fantastic trip to Welcombe. The cottage was everything we had hoped for and more. Exceptionally clean and tidy throughout with all the amenities needed for our family. We didn’t have the best weather but the cottage was so lovely that we were happy to spend our time cooking with occasional trips to the local pub. There are also beautiful beach walks right on the doorstep. All in all a faultless country cottage in a perfect location for a staycation!

Stayed here with a group of friends for a relaxing week. Everything about our stay was great, the cottage was clean, cosy and beautifully decorated. The walk down to the beach is a must and the pub next door is highly recommended for a meal and a pint. Thank you very much, we will be back.

Another fantastic stay at this beautiful cottage! My family loved our cosy and very comfortable stay at Chapel Cottage. The cottage is so well-equipped and we always find everything we need here for a fabulous stay. The location is stunning offering great walks down to the beach which the children loved. There is lots to explore in the area around Welcombe. The Smithy Inn is highly recommended and just a few metres from the cottage. We will definitely be back!

Cannot recommend this cottage enough, not only is the location perfect for some fantastic walks and beaches but the cottage was the perfect retreat for my group of 6 friends. The cottage itself is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with beautiful soft furnishings which give it a quirky/vintage feel. (I have stolen some ideas for my own home!!) The attention to detail was second to none with a welcome tray of scones and homemade jam on arrival. The smithy inn opposite is just a few steps away and serves great food and drink; lovely landlord and lady there as well. What a great week, we will be back!

What appeared to be a beautiful cottage was full of problems. We stayed for a week in August and were quite pleased with how pretty the cottage was....until we went inside. The kitchen is dirty and quite honestly, needs to be ripped out and replaced, ovens dirty, fridge in kitchen actually yellowed and glasses and cutlery needed more than to be put through the dishwasher. Some of the glasses actually had paint fingerprints on them as though they had been used for cleaning brushes. We had to borrow glasses from the pub and buy our own, because we didn't want to use the ones in the cottage. Some of the towels had brown stains on them, we queried this with the housekeeper, who told us "don't worry, that's fake tan from the previous people last week". Even the washing machine had mould on the inside! Needless to say, we didn't use the washing machine. The lounge has broken furniture, the sofa was like a see-saw and one of the wing back chairs in the lounge had a broken leg. The beds were so uncomfortable that we all woke up with headaches and back aches every morning. We couldn't leave any food out because there were swarms of flies in the house which apparently, were the farmer's fault because he intensively farms his cattle down the lane and never lets them see fresh air. If you want a great family holiday, there are plenty of places to stay in North Devon where you will have a fabulous time.... this is NOT one of them.

We stayed with our two dogs. We have loved staying here. So close to the lovely pub but not bothered by people coming and going. The cottage is great and having an enclosed garden meant peace of mind for the dogs. We found some great walks and once on the A39 there are loads of places to drive to.

Chapel Cottage provided everything we could need in the way of facilities and comfort combined with a lovely fresh look, while still being quaint.. There are some beautifully stunning walks around Welcombe itself. Fully recommend.

The cottage is well equipped, everything needed is provided and the cottage was clean and comfortable.. The location is good for exploring Bude, Hartland and surrounding area. We also enjoyed the provided cream tea left for us on arrival.

We had a great week and the cottage was lovely, we had a courtesy visit on arrival and a cream tea which was yummy.. The Cottage was really well equipped and had all we needed, lots of useful info about the surrounding areas and things to do. The garden was a little disappointing. The toilet seat in one bathroom was broken and we had hoped a replacement was going to me made as the lady did mention having to source a new one but alas it never arrived, was a bit trickier with only one fully useable toilet between 6. We were surprised at the comings and goings from the pub which did make for some disturbed nights with traffic and footfall right beneath the bedroom window, we ended up having to close the windows which did make the bedroom quite warm and stuffy so perhaps access to some fans might with help with this issue..... just a thought. There was also an issue with maggots in one of the bins which my husband dealt with, we guessed maybe the previous tennants had failed to bag the refuse properly and put the bins out for collection, there was a massive amount of flies around generally. These issue are by no means complaints just constructive feedback, we had a lovely week in a lovely cottage. Unfortunately there was a couple of breakages, 2 glasses and 2 bowls, I sent a text to the contact person informing of this. Best wishes Rachel and Alan Done

Had a wonderful time staying at Chapel Cottage with our family of 4 (plus two Jack Russells).. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped with some daily essentials to make cooking easier, plus some other nice touches like the cream tea and scones on arrival! The rooms were more than big enough for the four of us and the secure garden to the rear was an added bonus. The location was fantastic and we explored the area following some of the suggested walks recommended by previous guests. The walk down to Welcombe Mouth beach was roughly two miles down some seriously undulating country lanes but the views when you get there made it all worth while. The cottage was fairly close to the A39 making it easy to explore the surrounding area of Devon and Cornwall. Finally, the Old Smithy pub was a real gem and being literally next door meant we enjoyed a number of superb meals there whilst sat in the beer garden.

The cottage was a delight.. So beautifully put together with lots of vintage treasures but also plenty of home comforts including a cream tea on arrival. Fluffy towels and lovely bed linen. Brilliant pub 100 yards away. It was perfect for meals as we were snowed in for 3 days. The walk from the cottage down to Welcombe Mouth was beautiful. Will definitely return.

We are currently staying at Chapel Cottage and are thrilled with this little gem of vintage cottage charm. The cottage is beautifully situated in a tiny village with pub and pottery next door, and stunning rocky beach a mile walk away. The cottage is quaint and comfy, yet spacious enough for eight people to stay without being on top of each other. The vintage touches of original Rayburn, crockery, slate floors, handmade upholstery, and decor is very well thought out, and add to the charm. The cottage was spotless and well maintained on arrival, and little garden very neat and tidy. The house is well equipped with everything you need for a relaxin holiday. An ideal spot to use as a walking base to explore the rugged coastline, or simply to relax in the sunny garden, cosy lounge, or pub next door!
