Dawlish Warren, a mile-long sand beach near the mouth of the River Exe on the south Devon coastline known as the English Riviera, located a few miles north-east of the town of Dawlish. Dawlish Warren is home to a variety of stores that sell necessities, a golf course, a 55-acre nature reserve that is important to wildlife globally and serves as a roosting spot for large numbers of wading birds and wildfowl that spend the winter on the estuary. More than 450 different flowering plant species, including the endangered Warren or Sand Crocus, can be found in the Natural Reserve. In the summer, guided tours of the Reserve are offered. Sand dunes line the beach at Dawlish Warren, which is a Blue Flag beach and the ideal place for some old-fashioned, family seaside fun. Catch the train from Dawlish Warren which runs between Exeter and Newton Abbot, arguably one of the most scenic train journeys anywhere. Visit attractions such as Paignton Zoo, the Dartmouth Steam Railway, the fishing harbour of Brixham and the pier and promenade at Teignmouth.
