Area
The pretty Peak District village of Hope lies in the heart of the Hope Valley, and on the doorstep of some great walking country. Set amongst the beautiful rolling hills of the Peak District National Park, the village boasts some village pubs which serve food, a general store, some very interesting shops and galleries to explore, and a railway station. Hope is perfectly situated for either an action-packed break full of caving, climbing, and great walks from the doorstep, or a quiet countryside break in this lovely part of the Peaks.

We hired the The Poachers Arms for the weekend to celebrate a 60th birthday party. This is the perfect place for a unique celebration and is the ultimate party venue! Our birthday girl loved the experience of 'owning her own pub' for the weekend and all of our guests loved getting behind the bar. The facilities are excellent, it's incredibly well equipped and all of the en-suite rooms are lovely. The location is perfect for a wander or drive out too. Lisa was absolutely incredible in the run up to our stay, answering every question and being super helpful. We cannot recommend this place enough and we will 100% be back again in the future.

Wow! Where to start? Had a fantastic time, 18 of us took over the place for a hen-do and the venue lacks nothing. The huge kitchen is fabulously equipped, the lounge is very comfortable and the pool table, bar football table and jacuzzi were all welcome features. Lisa and Jenny couldn't have beeen more helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

This is a proper WOW place to stay! The moment we walked in the front door we were amazed at the size of the property. We had a lovely welcome & tour of the house from Lisa’s mum showing us everything we needed to know. The bar, games area and comfy lounge area all flow easily together allowing everyone to enjoy each part of it together whilst there is ample space for anyone wanting a bit of quiet time. The sound system throughout the ground floor was great. The conservatory was excellent for everyone to eat together, we had caterers in on our first evening. 18 of us celebrating my dad’s 80th....perfect! No shortage of would be bartenders enjoying serving behind the bar Every part of the house was spotless & comfortable. Loads of equipment, crockery & utensils provided in the kitchen. We all had a fabulous stay. We had meals at both The Old Hall Hotel and also The Curry Cabin, an easy 10 minute walk from the house, both were excellent. A 20-25 minute drive into BAKEWELL we enjoyed wine tasting at The Derbyshire Winery and also visited Thornbridge Brewery. Both well worth a visit. We certainly hope we have the chance to return to The Poachers Arms one day.....I could live there quite easily!

We received a warm welcome from the owners and a full tour of our holiday home. There was 23 in our family aged between 3 months to 69 years young. We were all extremely happy with our bedrooms which were all en-suite, beautifully decorated and beds were very comfy. Our week here was absolutely amazing and we didn’t want to go home. The kitchen was big and had excellent facilities, we had a big roast dinner on Sunday which we ate in the huge conservatory. The hot tub was used all week by all of us, not sure if it was the kids or adults that enjoyed it the most!! The teenagers enjoyed the pool table and football table and also the outdoor table tennis got used a lot as the weather was amazing. The bar was fantastic, we filled the fridges with drinks and shelves with snacks. The kids and adults enjoyed being behind the bar serving each other (non-alcoholic for the kids lol). Some evenings were spent in the comfy lounge area or around the breakfast bar in the kitchen playing card games. This self catering holiday home is perfect for large groups who want to explore the beautiful countryside. We would definitely go back again.

We had an absolutely brilliant weekend at The Poacher's Arms, celebrating a 50th birthday.. The facilities (including a working bar, pool table, hot tub, playground, table tennis table, table football) were perfect for a large group which was a mix of children and adults. The owners gave us a great tour of the property when we arrived, which meant we were able to fully enjoy our experience. The Poacher's Arms is perfectly located in Hope and from this base we were able to enjoy the many great activities in the area, including hiking and a couple of swims in the open air pool at Hathersage. It is also within walking distance of cafés, pubs and local shops in Hope. We would fully recommend this property for any large group, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. We will definitely be returning as soon as we can find an excuse to!

Now I've booked my own party I'm happy to rate this place. I was afraid of missing the date since they are booked up so far in advance. We arrived on Friday for a friends 40th and within an hour knew I wanted the venue for mine the next year. We were welcomed by one of the team who showed us around and explained how everything worked. This bits important as the hotel is brilliantly kitted out and you want to get the most from it. Audio that plays throughout the ground floor. A kitchen that is modern, bright and brilliantly equipped. 2 of every appliance, huge cookers just brilliant. Easy to cater for a huge party. TV area, pool table, table football, ps3 with a good selection of games. Massive conservatory that we ended up using for the disco on the Saturday night. Outdoor play area suitable for under 10s I'd estimate. Jacuzzi in a clean and warm hot so its cozy even when the weather is shocking. Plenty of parking at the front and side. The rooms were lovely. 9 rooms all with double beds. One with 2 bunk beds and another with one bunk. Friday night was a quite affair with a few friends. Saturday daytime we found activities around the area. Some went walking or jogging. Others went clay pigeon shooting, just loads to do. Saturday evening was the big 40 with a band and full buffet. We had brought our own booze so had filled the fridges. Felt great serving yourself behind a real bar and people were eager to help each other. The whole weekend was just perfect,. Lisa and the team couldn't be more helpful and I'm looking forward to my 40th in 2020. Book here, it's great value and you will have a great time.

This property is fantastic! Our group stayed for a week, the accommodation was spot on - an amazing kitchen. The owners allowed us in early as it had been unoccupied the previous week, they were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We had a couple of very minor damages which we reported immediately - they were not phased at all. We hit lucky with a week out of season as it was very cheap for the standard offered. Would like to book this property again but it is (unsurprisingly) booked for the next 15 months!

Wow what a cottage! This converted pub was such a treat with it's working bar, vast amounts of space, huge kitchen and conservatory. The bedrooms were all done to a very high standard - lovely decor, comfy beds and amazing views. There was plenty of entertainment for the kids and adults alike with the pool table,football table and hot tub. The location of the pub is perfect for walking in the Peak District with the lovely village of Castleton close by for a visit. We had no complaints at all and the owners were very friendly and helpful and so would 100% recommend this place.

The poachers arms was stunning.. Clean, decorated beautifully and had everything we needed. The owners were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. 21 of us spent Christmas there and we had the best family Christmas we have ever had. So much room and things to keep us busy we didn't want to leave !!!! We will 100% be returning sometime in the future.

This was the perfect venue for our family get together weekend for my husbands 40th.. The pub was everything we could have asked for, decorated tastefully, all facilities we needed, the bar as a highlight but so many corners where everyone could sit and chat or play. In our group we had 15 kids and although it was too cold for them to play outside in the large garden, it never felt too crowded with them playing inside. The kitchen provides everything you need for hosting a big party. The hot tub was amazing as well, relaxing and romantic with the lights of the christmas tree outside just showing. All in all, our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer!

This house is just incredible! It was beyond perfect for our large group for a 30th Birthday weekend away! The house has everything- all areas covered! The addition of the pool table, fussball table and hot tub just made the weekend even better. For us the working bar gave such a fun novelty factor to the weekend, with everyone wanting to take a turn at pulling pints- also having the option to buy local kegs of beer to be installed pre visit was just great! Lisa was fantastic, to begin with her family unloaded my Tesco delivery order when it arrived earlier than expected, she was so happy to see us arrive and was just so friendly and great (as were her whole family!). The dining room in the conservatory was huge- plenty of room for a party meal! The kitchen had EVERYTHING!! The double oven and huge fridge made everything so easy! I would recommend this house to anyone, it made our weekend- we literally didn’t need/want to leave! Loved it! Thank you Lisa!

Our family spent an amazing week at The Poachers Arms .. We filled all the rooms , had a family and friends reunion and the facilities were relaxed , spacious , exceptionally clean , overall top notch . Lisa and her family greeted us on our arrival , showed us around , gave us the information we needed and left us with " you are on holiday , enjoy yourselves , don't worry about anything and just phone if you have any questions ." We’ve just returned from our stay at the poachers arms and it massively exceeded our expectations, was an amazing weekend for my husbands 30th, we couldn’t fault the place at all!

Being able to sit in a real bar to have one's drinks is a great feature, adding to the special feeling of the weekend.. For this, of course, it really is important to have a real cask of beer, connected to one of the taps. For a family break, having a pool table, table football, and table tennis, was an enormously valuable feature, as was the hot tub and also the barbecue. The kitchen was exceptionslly well equipped, including the constant boiling water heater, making it so quick to provide hot drinks on demand. We had good weather and sat outside quite a lot and would have liked some more comfortable outdoor seating, but that is a small quibble. A great weekend celebration.

Its a strange feeling that you are somewhere familiar, a pub with all the features of a pub, but then it feels like a permanent lock in. Features - 9 double rooms with bathrooms. Clean and tidy. Well equipped kitchen with lots of space to move about, two cookers, two microwaves, a hot water boiler, 2 dishwashers; and they were needed as we seemed to run out plates rather quickly. There is a hot tub, and a conservatory which we used as both a large dining area and the dance floor, for the birthday party.

We have just had the most amazing week at the Poachers Arms celebrating our wedding.. The pub was so welcoming and had everything you needed and more. Lisa and her family have provided the perfect place for families to get together the only rule we were given was enjoy yourselves. We were two families coming together to celebrate and the Poachers Arms was certainly the place to do this, everyone loved the place there is so much to do and the village is beautiful.The kitchen has everything you need we cooked Sunday lunch for 40 people and had ample facilities and room to do this. The bar area was brilliant everything you needed to have a party and the conservatory was an added bonus. We have so many memories of our wedding celebrations, thank you Lisa and family for all the care you have put into making this pub an amazing place .
