Area
In the early days, Romans were drawn to Buxton because of its eight thermal springs, which had water that was always a comfortable 28 degrees Celsius. Buxton's current Palladian splendour was constructed and erected under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire in the 18th and 19th centuries, featuring the majestic semicircular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, and the Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. These spectacular structures and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and the arts, are still open to the public to this day.. Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton, and Edale are just a few of the beautiful towns and villages that can be found in the area, as well as the jagged peaks of the Peak District to the north. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, two of the area's most awe-inspiring landmarks, are just a short drive apart. Excellent starting point for exploring the Peak District.

Region
The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
