Old cobbled roads and byways radiate off the main street, and the 12th-century stone ruins of Kendal Castle overlook the town. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its Topiary Garden are close, as are easy-to-walk limestone escarpments with views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills, and Morecambe Bay. Kendal is near South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales, and more. Kendal's museums, the Museum of Lakeland Life, the Quaker Tapestry, Lake Windermere, and the National Park are all easily accessible.
