Area
The parish of Sykehouse is a peppering of hamlets, surrounded by the glorious South Yorkshire countryside, divided in two by the New Junction Canal, offering wonderful walks along its banks. The largest village within this parish is the village of Sykehouse, labelled the Longest Village in Yorkshire. The village is home to a friendly pub, The Old George, and is made up of a collection of listed buildings including the Grade II listed parish church of the Holy Trinity. The church was built of red brick and in a Gothic Revival style in 1869, although the tower was built in the early 18th century. The village of Sykehouse is home to the Sykehouse Arena Equestrian Centre and lends its name to the Sykehouse Russet apple, thought to be lost, but rediscovered growing in the Doncaster area in 1999. Explore the beautiful east coast of Yorkshire, or spend an adrenaline-filled day at Xscape, a giant leisure complex featuring an indoor real snow ski-slope, a surf simulator, a cinema, a bowling alley and much more to keep the whole family entertained! Twenty minutes' from the property you can practise your swing at the Thorne Golf Club, a picturesque parkland course surrounded by beautiful countryside. Discover the beauty of the Humberhead Peatlands Nature Reserve, nearly 3000 hectares in size, with an abundance of birdlife. Doncaster is within easy reach, home to the famous St Leger race each September, also providing plenty of shopping opportunities. The popular Trans Pennine Trail runs nearby and the majestic city of York is well worth a visit, with its wonderful selection of shops and restaurants and its variety of quaint cafés and tea rooms, as well as the towering York Minster and beautiful Museum Gardens. A wonderful base for uncovering the delights of South Yorkshire, all year round.
