Area
The village of Bolsterstone stands between the Stocksbridge and Ewden Valley, on the border of the Peak District National Park and is one of the last remaining hill villages in the Sheffield area. The village boasts a 170 year old country pub, the Castle Inn, and is also home to the Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir which was formed in 1934 and is still going strong today. Ewden was recent host to the Tour de Yorkshire boasting its climb Cote de Ewden. Just 1.5 miles away is the busy little town of Stocksbridge which holds a variety of eateries and shops, together with many bridleways and footpaths for visitors to discover. Nearby, the Broomhead and Langsett dams make for interesting afternoon rambles, whilst the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country of Holmfirth is within easy reach. There is easy access to the Peak District for longer walks, mountain biking and all the attractions of Hathersage, Edale and the impressive Ladybower Dam, whilst the proximity to the M1 means Sheffield, Leeds, York and the rest of Yorkshire’s beautiful scenery are easily accessible.

The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Location - very good ***** Accommodation - main building **** Shepards hut***** Nice interior and comfortable sofa/beds. Kitchen equipment needs upgrading (no markings on cooker / microwave to set correct temps. Pleant of storage including one main fridge freezer plus an additional undercounter fridge and freezer. Hot tub ***** nice and modern. Sauna ** needs repaired as gaps in wood let all heat out. BBQ and Pizza oven * old, rusty, needs scrapped. Garden/ground ** needs some TLC, would be really nice if they used a proper weed membrane beneath the stones/decking/slabs, weeds popping up everywhere, slabs all uneven/moving. Garden furniture * - again need some TLC (sanding/varnish) and damaged chairs need repaired/replaced. Customer service* - contacted owners with a few queries ~ ie local taxis/garden furniture-received basic answers - no or don't know. Didn't see anyone all week even though before arrival we were told someone would call round to make sure everything OK.

We had a couple of nights here at the end of September, the cottage is spacious and had everything we needed and more. We were lucky enough to have great weather so got to use the outdoor seating area, hot tub, sauna and pizza oven. The kitchen is lovely with all mod cons & plenty of cutlery/cockery. There was a welcome basket waiting for us with tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, and there was milk in the fridge. The 2 bedrooms in the house are light & airy with a shared bathroom. The other 2 bedrooms are outside in a 'Shepherds Hut' with a Jack & Jill shower room. These are both doubles with a kettle, fridge, TV & heater in each one. All the linen is provided, including beach towels for the sauna & hot tub. There are 2 reservoirs close by which make lovely walks; one is a quite flat, gentle route, the other one is more uneven with lots of tree roots to work around, but they are both worth doing. The can be reached easily on foot from the cottage if you don't mind the uphill stretch at the end to get back home.
