October 2020
Loved this cottage! Easy to book, easy to reschedule when Covid Lockdown scuppered my plans, easy to amend the booking to add another person. The property was squeaky clean, much bigger than it looks in the pictures, had every amenity we needed and is perfectly located for visiting either the coast or Anglesey or Snowdonia. I visit North Wales every year and will certainly stay here again.

Lovely cosy cottage with fantastic views.. Really well equipped with everything you may need for your stay. Very dog friendly as has enclosed garden. Great location for exploring the area. A little difficult to find at first but easy after that!

Perfect location with stunning views.. Cottage has everything you need including a utility room which was perfect for the dogs. The owners are close by should you require any information but do not intrude on your privacy.

We had a fabulous holiday in this beautiful cottage situated in a tranquil setting.. The views were spectacular. The cottage was extremely clean with everything that we needed during the stay. The owners who live up the lane were extremely friendly and helpful. We had great days visiting Criccieth, Anglesey, Harlech and Morfa Nefyn and couldn’t have been luckier with the hot weather. There are many walks around the cottage, including the three peaks. Would highly recommend this cottage and will be returning soon.

This is our second visit to Y Bwthyn using Sykes.. Everything from start to finish was perfect. The cottage is fantastic, from location to facilities and little touches like cake on arrival! Sykes kept us well informed throughout the pandemic meaning that I had no worries or misgivings around being able to travel or what would happen if it wasn't possible. Highly recommend Sykes and Pam and Rob, owners of Y Bwthynn

I nearly didn’t book this cottage because of the bad review that had been left. We stayed for a week in February with our dog. On arrival I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the cottage was immaculate. Sometimes with “dog friendly” cottages, they smell of dogs but this was not the case. It had a wood burner which was made up ready to light, milk in the fridge and a cake. We had some fantastic weather and twice had lunch outside at the table with views to the sea in the distance and the mountains. The walks from the house are excellent. You are almost on the Slate Trail. There are virtually no people or cars about because of the houses position. We walked to the lake before breakfast each morning and saw no one. For us this is paradise. The sunsets from the cottage were sensational, The owners home is up the lane but does not intrude into your privacy and you feel totally isolated, only seeing them once the whole week. There are 2 toilets a bathroom,a bedroom and an open plan kitchen with a couch that turns into another bed. After a hard days walking we would light the wood burner, go up to the brilliant little loft room with a bottle of wine and talk rubbish in the warm glow. This was our heaven. We were so pleased we didn’t believe the previous review. I have just read it again and I think they just wanted their money back and seem fixated with pubic hair. This was our home for one of the best holidays we have ever had.

The location was amazing and the views were stunning.. We saw a lot of birds of prey from the windows which was a fantastic bonus. Lots of Amazing walks nearby and there was plenty of room for the two of us and a dog. Whilst remote there are plenty of nearby towns to find supplies. Bangor and Llandudno can provide anything you need. The only criticism I would have is that the matresses seemed to be on there way out and could probably do with being replaced in the not to distant future. This was a really perfect base for our holiday and we will probably stay again.

June 2018
The cottage was very clean and well presented and we had a good holiday there.. However we felt a bit mislead by the description and pictures which seemed to suggest there was a field available for the dogs and access to the 'babbling brook', neither of which were true. You could just about hear the brook but not see it and the field shown in the picture is now completely fenced off from the house. Some more recent and more honest photos needed I feel. Also there is a bath but there is very little hot water available. You could get a shower but only got maximum 6" of water in the bath - also somewhat misleading. The owners were very helpful and friendly, the addition of cake was nice as a welcome gift and the view towards the sea was lovely.

Booked this property for an engagement holiday for myself and partner. We haven't been on holiday in well over a year due to work commitments. We searched for an isolated, dog friendly property. This came up. On arrival,it was obvious that the area was rural, but the property wasn't isolated. There was a property next door (but detached). It is in fact the owners who live next door. The property itself is stunning, smart finish and lovely views. However, the property was clearly not cleaned prior to our arrival. We found pubic hairs scattered around the toilet, bath and basin. There was also faeces in the toilet pan, but no cleaning products in the property. On closer inspection, the mattress protector was covered in pubic hair. Our feet were left black after walking bare foot. The property had clearly not been cleaned for sometime as there was deep seeded dirt everywhere. The property folder mentions leaving the property as you find it. This can only let me assume that the owners are relying on guests to clean after themselves. We left on the second morning. I wanted to leave on the first day after our outing to llanberris, but ice and bad weather meant we had to stay the second night. I have complained to sykes and since received a full refund. I'm sure the property cleaner would have been informed, and this problem rectified for future guests. I dont like calling people out, but unfortunately this completely ruined our holiday, and i wouldn't anyone else to suffer the same fate.

Brilliant. really good standard of fittings and made to feel really welcome, milk in the fridge on arrival logs set in the fire, cake and a Christmas tree, views were good even through the rain lol.. warm quiet and perfect for dogs. will start saving to go back in the summer.

November 2017
It is a great cottage in a fantastic location however it is lacking in attention to detail and cleanliness, we found waste still in a bin in the toilet, a filthy frying pan with relics of previous meals still burnt in, so totally unusable, a dirty oven, dirty wine glasses, burnt and dirty oven gloves, a couple of blown light bulbs had not been replaced, dogs excrement in the garden from the previous occupiers, dust evident on skirtings and television.. Dogs/human hair on the throw covereing the sofa bed. Its a real shame because the location is great but I do not expect to go away on holiday and clean someone elses mess, even more annoying since we arrived in the area at 10 am but could not check in to the cottage until 3 pm due to 'cleaning', have used Sykes several times now but this was a real let down especially since we were celebrating my wifes birthday

We stayed in this cottage for 3 nights at the end of October for the snowdonia marathon. Two adults one teenager and our two dogs, this cottage was just perfect for our needs. There was a barra brith cake, jug of milk in the fridge with tea & coffee waiting for us on our arrival which was a lovely touch. We are looking to visit the area again sometime next year, & this cottage is top of our list for a place to stay. The cottage is very clean with plenty of room and only a few miles less than 10 minutes from Llanberis. Thank you to the owners for a lovely stay in your cottage.

Y Bwthyn is situated in a great location for exploring Snowdonia and all of the activities available. The children particularly liked the horses in the surrounding land. The views are stunning and we would book again.

June 2016
Y Bwythyn is a beautiful cottage that was situated in the middle of nowhere, on the side of a mountain with wonderful views, yet still perfectly located for easy access to so many lovely places. The enclosed garden/yard was ideal and secure enough to let the dogs out without supervision. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and although we didn't require the use of the log burner, it was a very attractive feature.

My wife and I stayed in this cottage for a week in June 2015 with our 2 dogs. This idyllic, stone-built, detached cottage is situated in an elevated position on the slopes of Elidir Fach Mountain with views across the countryside to Anglesey and Snowdonia. Fully converted from an 1850s shippon, this delightful Llanberis cottage offers spacious ground floor accommodation with a king-size bedroom with distant sea views, a large open plan living area with a sofa bed, a galleried ceiling with original oak beams, a crog loft where you can sit and read, and a warming multi-fuel stove to sit and relax in front of on cooler evenings. The above is copied from the sykes cottages site but describes perfectly. The cottage was clean and well equipped with everything we needed it even had wifi that was not mentioned. The location is a bit remote for shops pubs etc but this did not bother us. It is great for dogs with a large fenced off garden. There is great walking direct from the cottage and excellent views. The only slight negative on our visit was the grass on the garden area and around the outside seat was fairly long. We would recommend a visit to this cottage and would visit again.

May 2015
Y Bwythyn really felt like a traditional welsh cottage; the décor and location in particular were great. The open fire was a great addition to the evenings after some wet and cold outdoor activities. We were given a friendly welcome but also left to our own devices so were never intruded upon and overall we found the property really good value for money.

We were looking for a quiet and peaceful holiday which we found at Y Bwthyn. The property is in an ideal location for travelling around and sightseeing. We found the owners very pleasant and friendly, we only saw them twice. The accommodation was as described, ample room for two, very clean and well laid out. Loved the Log Burner. All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable stay, and would have no hesitation making a return visit.

We had a little difficulty finding it, but that was our fault as we didn't see the sign on the gate. It is a wonderful place slap bang in the middle of the countryside as far away from anything that you could wish for if that is what you want. We found Y Bwthyn to be well appointed and very comfortable and it was within easy reach of many good walks including the lake Ogwen area

Spent a week here in March before the internal photos were on the site so took a leap of faith as it is in such a great position. And we were not disappointed, fantastic cottage with beautiful views down the valley to the sea and lots of walking in the area. Internally the cottage has all mod cons, we were particularly fond of the 'eerie' as we called it for sitting in and reading.
Mrs Smith

Cottage was prepared and finished to a high standard and needs attended too very well by the owners.
