Second visit to Wray Green because it's such a great place to stay.. Well go back again next year. Can't fault it. The location is breath taking. Used the owners family owned pub, the Kings Head in Ravenstonedale, quite a bit. Local, excellent food and service.

We had an amazing holiday with our friends and the dog.. . beautiful scenery, lovely walks and friendly farmer! We where lucky enough to be there to see all the baby lambs jumping around! We had a clear night on one night and the stary sky was the best I've seen... we even saw a shooting star! The cottage was full of character and history, comfy beds and bathroom facilities. A wonderful open fire in the living room and a log burner in the kitchen. We had a couple of issues but the owner responded immediately and rectified these... The only negative comment we had was the old electric arga cooker... we followed the instructions but it took us 2 hours to cook pizza and chips. . We ended up going on Utube for further instructions on the cooker. We needed to turn hob and oven on about 3/4hours before we needed it... so that caused some problems food wise in first few days... however apart from that I couldn't fault it And we would love to return! Was a magical stay... and a much needed break from the rat race! Would highly recommend. Just need some more realistic info on that cooker!

We've visited Wray Green before so knew what to expect.. Really well equipped cottage, very thoughtfully presented. Windows are very draughty and during bad weather the cottage was difficult to keep warm. Owners had kindly left towels by the windows to mop up leaks and there were oil heaters at the property which we moved around to heat the rooms we were using. The charm and history of the property made up for being chilly! Beds are really comfortable and facilities are brilliant. Will definitely be returning.

We stayed in this delightful farmhouse for a week with our little girl and two doggies, it's a lovely hidden gem. It is your typical farmhouse; all old-fashioned decor, fires, aga etc. We loved it all. It had all the equipment we needed for our self-catering holiday (although we couldn't find any wine glasses but they could have been hiding somewhere). The whole house is very spacious but is kept very warm. Some rooms were a little too warm for the time of year such as the main bathroom and the main bedroom. I couldn't figure out to use the heaters in those rooms as think they may have been on timers? The only other very minor criticisms would be some of the knobs were coming loose on doors and cupboards, the shower is rather small (I am pregnant thus struggled) and there were a lot of beetles but this is not worth reducing a star as creatures can't be helped when staying in the countryside! I was quite happy I only saw the one spider! The location is ideal for lots of fun days out, lots of places worth visiting in the Yorkshire dales and obviously the lakes. There are lots of nearby walks we did as many as we could but can prove quite difficult when walking with a toddler! There are 3 main gates to get to the property so just to make you aware in case this would be an issue for anyone. My husband said he was having nightmares about gates after the holiday ha ha but on a serious note it wasn't a problem for us. We met a local farmer who was very friendly (he owned the sheep) and he gave us lots of advice on nice local walks. We found the wifi to be extremely efficient so we got to watch movies in the evening once little one was asleep. Take bottled water as water is slightly peaty. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wray green and would love to stay again in the future probably when the kiddies are a little older so they can appreciate the beautiful long walks. Would highly recommend this place.

We want to live here (and so does our dog! ) For peace, stunningly beautiful views and isolation, this really is an amazing find and we can't wait to go back. Also, the owners are really helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble.

A genuinely unique experience to live among the wildlife and beautiful countryside despite being a stones throw from the motorway.. Standing still and hearing almost nothing save for the birds and sheep was a superb experience. A wonderful farmhouse with a mixture of basic and modern facilities and plenty of home entertainment on hand in the shape of board games, DVD's or cards. The surrounding area is breathtaking with plenty of walks or alternatively short drives to places of interest. The local pubs are very friendly and the local shepherd is willing to tell a story or two about the place. All in all a definite recommendation for a relaxing holiday, a credit to the owners.

October 2016
We very much enjoyed our stay at Wray Green.. We loved being right out in the countryside but within easy reach of places like Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh. The cottage was very comfortable and we liked the traditional furnishings. Even in stormy weather this is a magical and atmospheric place to stay. We certainly plan to return in future.

May 2016
A wonderful historic cottage in a stunning location, with amazing views from every window. We immediately felt at home and soon settled in with cosy roaring fires. The sheep and lambs just outside made our holiday. Everything we could possibly need was provided and the owners were friendly and helpful.

April 2016
This spacious, well equipped cottage is in the perfect location for some excellent walks. Having stayed in many different cottages, I can honestly say that the king sized bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. A couple of minor issues were experienced but once we had reported them, the owner very quickly and graciously sorted them out. There are a number of very good pubs within a few miles if you don't fancy cooking and the lack of a TV is a positive especially since the cottage provides books and board games a plenty. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

March 2016
Wray Green is a fantastic rural retreat. We were in need of some peace and quiet and that's exactly what we got. There were some amazing views and walks right on the doorstep. The open fire was fantastic. We are booking again for later in the year and have recommended the cottage friends.

Absolutely perfect getaway weekend with a group of friends. The cottage well and truly felt like home. It had everything we needed, exactly as stated in the description. Overall, a beautiful cottage.

November 2015
This was our second and eagerly anticipated return to Wray Green having stayed 2 years ago. We planned a purely relaxing and de-stressing week with another couple and the almost constant rain and gale force winds conspired with us. We enjoyed sitting by a roaring log fires, eating, drinking and reading one of the many books left to entertain guests in the warm and characterful 17th century farm house. The views are stunning on a clear day, the quiet and fresh air intoxicating and the sheep peering in the living room window entertaining. We jokingly hoped to be snowed in so that we didn't have to leave and woke up on the final day with a scene to grace the loveliest Christmas card. The owner was very prompt and helpful in getting the track de-iced and much as we were sad to leave we will definitely be booking to come back again very soon.

This was our second time at Wray Green. We like how remote the property is. It is very well equipped with everything you are likely to need. It is a very cosy and homely property, just what is needed for a relaxing holiday.
Mr Keppie
November 2015
Absolutely loved Wray Green - the most stunning views (and sheep!) all around, loads of great walks and the house itself had so much character, interest and warmth. The owners were also very helpful and friendly. All perfect.

September 2015
Beautiful Grade II listed farmhouse in the remote fells of Cumbria. The house is very clean and comfortable. Stunning scenery and remote. The owners and the housekeeper are all very friendly and welcoming, with lots of local tips. Great food at the King's Head in Ravenstonedale. If you are into peace and quiet and walking there are lots of things to do, with a walk up Cauldron Snout just down the road a must (main high fell visible from cottage). The Yorkshire Dales are very close by and provides other past times if you don't want to walk up high hills. Perfect

July 2015
17th Century cottage with bags of character. We all LOVED it. Lots of walks available. Chris gave me loads of information about the cottage and the area before we left home and even phoned me again when I got home after the holiday to make sure everything was ok. What a conscientious owner. Very thoughtful! We LOVED the cottage and will certainly consider returning there another time.
Mr Williams

The cottage was beautiful and in such a lovely setting. The owners are very helpful and care about the cottage. There are several lovely dining pubs nearby - all of which are very good. I would certainly go back to this cottage.
Mrs Brook
May 2015
So much thought and care had been put into making this special cottage comfortable and well equipped. The location is absolutely stunning and it was lovely to spend a week here. The access road was very good and not a problem at all. The owners were very kind and welcoming, but not at all intrusive. This all ensured we had a lovely memorable holiday.
Mr Mrs Forrester
April 2015
The owners were particularly welcoming and helpful. We immediately felt right at home in the house which was very comfortably furnished in a charming traditional style. The location was splendid, with magnificent views and great walking all around. We enjoyed the 1000 piece jigsaws (all 3 completed) and the children loved the board games that were provided. No one missed watching TV!

January 2015
Very nicely furnished and well equipped, beautiful location. Unfortunately there were mice also in residence. They were so evident, especially on the ground floor. Droppings were everywhere, also saw mice scurrying around the house. Went here for a relaxing holiday and came away very stressed.

December 2014
Wray Green is well positioned for walks from the doorstep and has stunning views. The property is cosy and welcoming with a large coal fire in the lounge and log burner in the Kitchen/Dining area. We were fortunate that it snowed during our stay so a combination of glowing fires and snow outside made it very appealing.

December 2014
Before our departure and arrival the cottage owners were tremendously helpful, friendly and informative. This stretched to a warm greeting on arrival to check everything was ok. Something I've never had on previous breaks. The cottage itself is true to its original structure and furnishings making the property feel warm, traditional and inviting. The views during the daylight hours were nothing short of stunning and the local fells invited a walk through to admire the stunning scenery despite the time of year. One of the features of this cottage which has always played a major part of our booking decision was the real fire and it was fantastic to see this was as expected (and more so with the availability of more logs/coal from the outhouse at a small reasonable cost). The only neighbours nearby (sheep) kept themselves to themselves :) If you are looking for rural/quiet/peaceful/scenic/old-world farmhouse breaks then I can not recommend this cottage highly enough!
Miss Wears
November 2014
The cottage was in a lovely rural and remote setting, just what we wanted. When we arrived, we were greeted by the cleaner, she was very welcoming and friendly. It was very homely and very well stocked with crockery etc. It supplied everything we needed, even down to a good selection of board games, books and details of local walks and pubs. It was good that the owner had a supply of coal and wood for the fire and trusted people to be honest and pay for what was used. We would definitely like to return.
Mr Parker

October 2014
Booked Wray Green for an autumn break to visit the dales and the lakes. First impressions were good, nice kitchen, cosy lounge, great location. The first morning we realised there were mice as they'd shredded the dog's food container. We thought they might just be in one area and made sure all food went in the cupboard. As the week progressed, we realised they were everywhere. We saw two in four days, both in the daytime. One came out of the sideboard in the lounge, one ran across the kitchen floor. The droppings were on kitchen work tops, the dining table, the sofas and even the beds. Seeing them upstairs, we decided to pack up and go home. Sykes Cottages say they would never publish a negative review on their site, so there you have it. If you like mice, I'd highly recommend it!

September 2014
This was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in for the last 13 years we have been renting all around the UK. It was so peaceful and relaxing and what views to behold. Cosy, clean and quiet. We felt very at home. The dogs loved it too, such greats walks from the garden gate. The lovely owner was very helpful and informative. There was lots to do in the surrounding area. Friendly locals and good pubs nearby. Coming from the South East and living in a rather pretty spot ourselves, we really appreciated how unpopulated the area was. If your customers want to escape, this is the place. We had the best holiday and were genuinely sad to leave. We would definitely like to return someday.

I want to live here? But not for the feint hearted!. Comfy cottage, everything you need. It's old and comfy not new and squeaky clean! There are spiders inside and sheep outside but if it's a head clearing time you need this is for you? No TV, very intermittent Wyfi. You have to talk to the people with you are with rather than social media. Walks straight from the door. Outstanding beautiful country . Five stars from me and re booking.

June 2014
The house appears to be isolated and is blissfully quiet but less than a 15 minutes drive to Sedburgh and Kirby Stephen. Excellent walking from the house and dog friendly.

May 2014
Owners were friendly, it was nice to know there was someone to contact if we needed to. Loved the isolation and natural beauty of the place with walks right from the door. A perfect cottage for us and the dogs, it was total relaxation. Will book to come again.

April 2014
The cottage is in a superb location, quiet, peaceful and very scenic; yet it is within easy distance of excellent pubs, restaurants, shops, walks and drives. Villages and valleys, interesting places to visit and even the motorway, for easy arrival and departure. The cottage itself is full of character and history, and the owners could not be more helpful.

January 2014
We loved everything about the property! The owners are so helpful and kind. They even met us in the dark to take us up to the property. The house is amazing! So cosy and has a very homely feel to it. The kitchen has literally everything you may need and more, the lounge has a tv with lots of dvds to watch and games to play. The beds are so comfy, the views stunning and the waking up to the sound of sheep was bliss! We had lots of lovely walks with our 2 dogs and lots of meals around the table that seats 8 people.

We stayed at Wray Green from the 28th of December for 4 nights. The owners were fantastic, so polite and friendly. They kindly met us nearby and showed us to the property as it was dark when we arrived and brought us coal and logs when requested for the fires. The property itself is so cosy with two fires, one in the kitchen and one in the lounge. The whole property is extremely well equipt with everything you may need, including toilet rolls, kitchen utilities and towels. Bottled water was also kindly provided. There is a good sized TV with dvd player, dvds were also available to us during our stay as well as games that made our visit so enjoyable. We were warm throughout our stay as there are heaters in every room. We enjoyed lots of walks with our two dogs and also visited The Kings Head in Ravenstonedale for lunch on New Years eve, it was delicious and wondefully modern. We cant wait to return in the summer. If you want a rural break to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside then this is the place to be!
Mrs Allonby
December 2013
Wray Green must be the best spot ever to get away from it all and have lovely walking from the doorstep and yet be close to the market towns of Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh. The house is warm and comfortable yet full of historic charm. It's a real joy to be without a TV.
Mr Pass
November 2013
The remote position of the property is just what we wanted. The very old features of the building and furniture add to the charm of the house. The property and a piece of furniture dates back to mid 17th century. The view of the Fells and Cautley Spout was amazing in the morning sun. I would like to go back in the summer as there is a great spot at the front of the house for BBQ etc. The WiFi was said to be intermittent, but we did not have any trouble with it. Overall, brilliant place, and the photos on the Sykes website do not do the place justice.
Mr Clifton
October 2013
Everything about this place oozed charm! The remoteness, the views, the old fashioned, original décor, the paintings, even the water tasted wonderful, earthy and sweet! Lovely!

June 2013
remote, quiet, brilliant views. Only quibble woud be the the woood for the log burner was a bit wet and it was never very hot in the kitchen. Might sound minor but we always look for a real fire when we go away so we were a bit disappointed. Not been to the area before - liked it, liked the people and great walking Thought it reasonable value for money as these things go
Mr McIlwain
May 2013
A lovely cottage with everything you need for a relaxing week. The cottage and garden are in excellent condition and the owners were very helpful but kept their distance allowing us to relax. Surrounding area was lovely. Will definitely be back.

November 2012
Lovely cottage, really 'away from it all' - no TV, bring your own drinking water! Nicely equipped, comfortable and mostly warm. Stunning walks from the door in all directions - although underfoot it was the swampiest I've ever walked in over 30 years of rambling! But worth the effort, amazing views away from civilisation. Comfortable beds, fun cooking on the electric aga cooker (actually much easier than it looks), we had a blast. Real character cottage, but with some modern comforts!
Ms Robinson
October 2012
Best suited for people who appreciate peace tranquillity - a real haven. A wonderful holiday. Owners particularly helpful, caring and appreciating.

September 2012
This is probably one of the best self atering holidays we have ever had (and we have had a few!!). The house is down a field track through a few field gates and surrounded by fields. We had sheep knocking on the lounge windows and lambs being born in the field in the front of the house. The owners were very helpful, providing drinking water as the tap water is brown as it comes from the moors. The house was very well equipt and very comfortable. The surrounding area is a delight and the Lake district a short distance away. Highly recommended unless you want internet, TV or mobile phone connection, but great for peace and quiet
Mrs Bailey
July 2012
Peaceful and restful, just what we were looking for, and with beautiful scenery from every window. Owner very pleasant and helpful. Local farmer very friendly and interesting, told us where we could do badger watching, both my husband and I really enjoyed this a first for both of us. Would recommend this cottage to any one and we would book again.

The 2nd time my group has visited Wray Green within 6 months tells you something! We find the location/ isolation wonderful. The Everhot (Aga) has now been mastered and we had a great time again. Would have booked for early November 2012 but someone has beaten me to the date.

March 2012
As our first booking with Sykes, we found the service quick and helpful in all of our queiries and the owner was very helpful in our preparation to arrive for our holiday. The cottage was simply idyllic. It was truly a character property and the photos don't do justice for how welcoming it is. We were very impressed with the thought and care the owners have put into the cottage from the aesthetic to the practical accessories. Even the quirky features (such as the peaty water and everhot cooker) made the experience much more fun and wistful for such a permanent lifestyle. The location was fabulous - though the weather was too bad to take advantage of the walking routes. Instead, we explored the nearest villages (when we could tear ourselves away from the open fire) and have fell in love with Kirkby Stephen a few miles away. Our favourite aspects were no TV, little internet and no mobile reception which allowed us to completely relax. The open fire and the big farmhouse kitchen to really enjoy cooking were my highlights. If I had to label a negative it would be having to make sure we had enough bottled water for the serious amount of cooking and drinking we did - but we knew about this before we booked and really didn't mind!
Mrs Cambridge
January 2012
We loved the remoteness, the open fire and how it was extremely well equipped in both activities and cooking equipment.

loved the location, the quaint cottage, the fact that the owners had thought of everything, the real coal fire, the views, the peace and quiet! Just what the doctor ordered, would recommend to all! Oh and plenty of places for our dogs to roam and tire themselves out!

Loved the warm welcome from the owners. Loved the cottage, the location, the views and the advise of where to walk! There was everything in the cottage that you could possibly need and more. Never been on a self catering holiday and felt more like I was in a home from home! Would definitely like to go back and would recommend this property to everyone, its beautiful.

Wray Green was everything we could imagine and more, from the antique furniture, the beams and the coal fire to the lovely views, breath taking walks and peace and quiet. Everything about it was perfect! The cottage had everything you could possible want or need. Having been used to self catering holidays in the past we expected to need a lot of basic household items but everything you could imagine was catered for. Plenty of leaflets of what to do and where to go as well as chatting to the owners when we got there, who gave us a few more ideas as well as the warmest of welcomes! If you want a week away that's peaceful and relaxed then we would strongly recommend this cottage!

I've been holidaying in country cottages all my life (35 years) and must say this is one of the best yet. Absolutely fantastic cottage with beautiful antique furniture and in a superb location to enjoy walks in both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. No mobile phone or TV for a week was utter bliss too!

This cottage is beautiful & has stunning scenery literally on it's doorstep. It was really well equipped & extremely comfortable. There is plenty to see & do around the area but if you just want to relax it's the perfect place to do it. We all loved it & are looking forward to going back soon.

I have stayed in many holiday cottages this one surpassed them all. The location was perfect, the cottage was beautiful everything had been thought of. It was a real home from home, we can't wait to go back.

A house oozing with character and charm situated in probably the best location we've yet encountered. We would definitely consider returning.

The cottage was so lovely and comfortable and set in beautiful surroundings. Extra touches, such as hot water bottles on our beds and a call from the cottage owners added to the overall experience.

Everything. Simply amazed at the cottage - the location - the surroundings and the weather! We had sun and snow all over 3 days! Can't wait to come back again later in the year.

This is a first class cottage. In a spectacular setting the cottage fits in perfectly. Helped by deep snow this was the perfect Christmas get away.

Area super and peaceful, ideal for walking and touring Eden Valley and the How Gills. Owners gone to a lot of careful thought to provide for every need. Stunning location, handy for Sedbergh or Kirkby Stephen.

A beautiful old farmhouse. A warm welcome, excellent facilities and fully equipped with everything you might need. Lack of TV an added bonus to family time in front of roaring log fires.

Very peaceful and an excellent area for walks. Almost don't want to rhapsodise too much about this cottage as it might be booked up when we come again in summer!

We had a wonderful break, the location of the cottage was breathtaking. Isolated but with every home comfort. It was good to be within easy reach of the Lake District without having to stay in an overcrowded area. I would highly recommend this property.

We loved it all!. The house is full of warmth and character and everything in it suits it perfectly. The Howgill Fells make for the most beautiful landscape in the country and the house sits right out amongst them, far from any other habitation. The views from the garden and windows are incomparable.

The location was absolutely perfect for getting away from it all. The sound of silence was absolutely breathtaking. It was one of those few occasions where the details do not do justice to the property. We'd certainly return there in the future.

A wonderful property out in the sticks, an absolute joy to stop at and will definitely be returning for a further holiday as soon as possible.
