This was my third time at this location, I find it good for touring the area and visiting Penrith, the local town. One is always made welcome and the cottage being next to the owners farm is ideal.

It was a lovely cottage, one of the best we have ever stayed in, set in a lovely quiet location. Overall, it was a very pleasant break.

In a lovely location with plenty of walking in the immediate area. Handy for Carlisle and Penrith for days out, or as somewhere to just relax for the week. Have been here twice and hopefully will be back again. Have no hesitation in recommending Woodpecker Cottage for anyone considering a holiday in this area.

Clean and comfortable property in a peaceful rural location. Two en-suite bedrooms, one with walk in shower, essential for my elderly mother. Lovely walks near by to walk my dog. Owner very helpful and kind. We had wine, milk and scones waiting for us on arrival. Beauty spa on site, enjoyed a lovely treatment there and 10% off for cottage guests.

The directions to the cottage were excellent and the owner was very helpful when I phoned her about gaining access. We found the accommodation to be very comfortable. We loved being on a working farm and having the hens arrive at the gate for bread. The cottage is about seven miles from Carlisle which is well worth a visit. Penrith is ten miles away and also worth a visit. The northern lakes are also a short distance away. The only draw back we found with the cottage was the lack of a washing machine and the size of the fridge. These could easily be rectified by installing a washing machine in the boiler room and providing a bigger fridge/ freezer. However, that said we really enjoyed our stay in Woodpecker cottage and will return again if we get a chance.

Although it was December /January that we spent at Woodpecker cottage we found the under floor heating ample for the day and with a wood burning stove to supplement if the temperature really dropped. The owner was extremely helpful. Because of the properties location there is a lot to see and some pleasant walks on your doorstep or just watching the variety of birds flying in and out of the garden.

On our arrival we were made very welcome by the owner. A very cozy cottage done to a very high standard. There were several welcome gifts for us in the cottage which was a very nice touch. This included wine, milk, scones, fruit and being Easter weekend, 4 Chocolate Chickens! Much appreciated by all. Plenty of public footpaths in the area for some long walks. A most enjoyable weekend.

October 2012
The cottage was as we hoped in that it was a quiet relaxing location and the property was clean fresh and like home from home. The views and walks from the door of the property were tranquil, picturesque and remote. If you want to get away from the 21st century and keep all the creature comforts, this is the ideal place for you.

July 2012
The standard of this property is far higher than one often gets with self-catering - it was like a 5 star apartment with quality fittings and furnishings, and it reflects the newness of the property too. We had a lovely time.

We were welcomed to our cottage by the owner and a plate of freshly baked scones. One of the first things we saw was a woodpecker!!! We loved the location including the sculpture trail and the woodland and the fact that it felt to be miles from anywhere. Very comfortable bedrooms and well-appointed bathrooms. Living area very practical for dogs. Cooking and dining facilities good. Would have liked more mugs and glassware to be available. We will visit again and next time try out the lovely spa.
Mrs Bailey
December 2011
The cottage was warm, clean and spacious, even the dog loved it. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The tea room is a must as is the spa, and the view from the front door over the valley is beautiful. It is a place I would definitely stay in again.

As regular visitors to Cumbria my wife and I were extremely impressed by the standard of accommodation offered here - comfortable, well appointed, peaceful and relaxed. Woodpecker is within 30 minutes drive time of the North Lakes, charming Penrith ("foodies" heaven)Carlisle, Hadrian's wall & the Scottish borders. There are many places to keep all types of people entertained in all types of weather.Unusual attractions like a puppet theatre or hand-made chocolate factory are easily reached. The sculpture valley children's play facilities, cafe and gallery provide "on site" entertainment. Visitors should be aware that transport is really a requirement to explore the area's visitor attractions.

November 2011
The location was tranquil. The woodland, gardens, sculpture park and the abundant wildlife immediately outside the door were a real joy. The sculpture park was an interesting diversion and we loved the diversity of the exhibits in the gallery. The weather was gorgeous and there were no crowds!

October 2011
Having spent holidays in Cumbria for over 35 years, the location of High Head was great to give us an opportunity to easily visit the best of Northern Cumbria. The cottage was very warm and cosy, even when the weather was cold and miserable. Very comfortable, well appointed and a lovely welcome pack. Lot's to do on site as well,I can only recommend High Head to young and old alike.
Mr Mrs Dabbs

This cottage was fantastic, it was clean and well maintained. The boys loved having an en-suite. It has to be one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. Good quiet location but not too far from the center of Carlisle.
Ms Stapley
September 2011
The location was ideal for walking either in the Lake District or exploring Hadrian's Wall. The accommodation was of a very high quality in a wonderful setting. The owners were friendly and helpful. The quality of the food at the on-site tea room was very good.
Mrs Carr
September 2011
The cottage was out of this world and the location was ideal for my dogs. My little girl loved going to the tea room and bringing her food back to the cottage on her own due to the fact it was such a safe environment. A fantastic holiday for the entire family.

August 2011
It was a good location, out of the way and in a peaceful environment but close enough to the motorway for getting to different places and attractions. The cottage was very clean with fresh and modern décor. The surroundings were lovely, with a nice tearoom and relaxing spa. We would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
Mr Mrs Hurren
August 2011
I stayed at the Woodpecker Cottage with my husband, 2 children, age 6 and 11 and our dog. The owners were so welcoming and the cottage is to a very high standard. The little extras such as milk, tea, coffee, fruit and home made scones that were there on our arrival were a delight. I have never stayed in accommodation were this has been provided before. The surroundings are beautiful and everything is close by, only a 40 minute drive to Keswick. Ullswater is the nearest lake, just 20mins to Pooley Bridge and Carlisle is just 10 minutes drive. We had a wonderful time here and would certainly recommend to friends and would go back again.

Lots of art and creative events/places to visit in the Eden Valley. Lovely to have fresh fruit and flowers, milk, tea/coffee, wine in the fridge, ice cubes in the freezer and dressing gowns.
