Just a lovely cosy cottage2.. Everything we needed was there. Plenty of places to eat and drink and lots of attractions close by. Lovely walks around the lochs were recommended by our host and well worth the visit. Thankyou1

This was our second visit to this cottage, at the same time of year.. Once again, we were more than satisfied with the accommodation. Warm, comfortable and well-equipped it was a great place to spend a cold, wet and windy week. The cottage is easily accessible from the main road. The entrance driveway to the rear is flat enough for the icy surface on one of the days not to be a problem. The rear entrance hall provides useful storage for wet gear and the rest of the property affords excellent drying facilities if required. Central heating fires up quickly and, especially once the wood burner is fired up, can be turned back fairly quickly. Public rooms are comfortable and well-furnished, the tv and its add-ons are easy to operate and, for the area, WiFi is adequate. The kitchen is very well-equipped and there is more than adequate fridge and freezer space. Both bathrooms are clean, hot water is plentiful and towel rails are warm. Bedrooms are clean, warm and comfortable with good storage. Local shopping is excellent: very good Coop at the far end of the village and a good Tesco in Aviemore. Local cafes are friendly and interesting. Antlers is a must! The Boathouse on Loch Insh is always worth a visit and the new Gallery in Kincraig is breathtaking. Contact with the owner was easy and helpful. Finally, we left an electrical item behind when we left and this, too, is being dealt with promptly and efficiently. Oh, and the area speaks for itself, of course.

Cottage was cold when we arrived at about 16:30, so took quite a while before we could feel comfortable, rooms are a nice size and kitchen well equipped, cooker requires a good clean but overall living areas and bedrooms clean, had a great weekend with friends..

We particularly enjoyed sitting in the porch at dusk watching the birds on the bird feeder.. Also, the kitchen was very user friendly with every utensil we could possibly need. Lounge was lovely and cosy with the log burner lit, and the shower in the downstairs bathroom was very powerful and eased aching muscles after a day hiking.

We were delighted with this cottage which was just as described.. Cosy but roomy, it was comfortable and well-equipped. The kitchen was really user friendly. Beds were comfortable and all rooms were warm. Best described as homely, the feeling is very much of living in someone's home rather than a holiday house. We would certainly recommend it without hesitation and will consider booking it again.

Having not been to Scotland or away for Christmas before , at the end of a 580 mile journey Woodlands had a lot riding on it ! ! As a family we are pleased to say it didn’t disappoint. A wonderful cottage with a great mixture of old and new , lovely big rooms and a great shower and lovely big bath . The kitchen is different but has everything you need and managed to cook a nice Xmas dinner , plus e few cooked breakfasts. The location is spot on for either exploring or a more local based holiday , excellent access to main road , local shops and pubs and restaurants We enjoyed feeding the birds and watching them from the lounge and once we mastered the fire , well it was very magical with all our lights and decorations we added , a tree was supplied for us which was nice . We didn’t get the white Christmas we were hoping for but Woodlands and Scotland didn’t disappoint , would back tomorrow ,

A very comfortable place to stay for a family.. Plenty of crockery and cutlery so the dishwasher could be filled before using. Nice and warm. Very quiet. Safe for children. Not modern, not 'chic' but we would definitley use this property again.

The 4 of us had a lovely holiday in Woodlands.. It was warm clean and all we needed. There are only 2 points that need mentioning. The freezer had 3 trays of which the top 2 were frozen solid, it needs defrosting. Also the upstairs bathroom did not have a hand towel. Also we were not sure which bin to put out on the Tuesday night. All the bins out in the village were a bit confusing as all colours were out by the houses. Please could the calendar for month week be updated, as it currently ends in August. Apart from that we had everything we needed in the house, and we were certainly warm enough. I think we would stay there again. We even saw the red squirrel. Oct 20-27 2018. Maggie May

Woodlands cottage was exactly what I wanted.. It was a cozy retreat and made an excellent base for our daily adventures. The town has everything you might need ... several excellent restaurants (within walking distance), a gas station (if you happen to be driving), a train stop (if you don't have a car), a grocery store. The whole rental process went smoothly without one glitch or surprise. I would highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the Highlands.

We, two couples from Germany, booked Woodlands for 11 days, because we wanted a cottage with vintage charm.. We loved this house. It was clean, spacious, it has a timber flooring downstairs and carpet upstairs, what we really liked. Every evening we used the fireplace in the living room. The kitchen has been well equipped, we found everything we needed. It is only a short walk into the village. The contact with the owners was very nice. There are a lot of walks / hikes one can enjoy in and around Newtonmore. We would recommend Woodlands to our friends.

Great holiday.. Love the cottage. Our family had a wonderful time

June 2018
Our first impressions were disappointing and upsetting.. The approach to the house from the rear was tatty and dark, the back door opened onto a dark area full of junk and a floor that looked, at first glance, decidedly dirty. The kitchen itself was disappointing and the wooden work surface to the left of the sink was soiled and looked dirty. Most of the china was chipped, coffee machine not emptied. General disarray. Shower room: Door needs easing as difficult to open and close. Information regarding the switches on the wall for the shower room were not identified in the brochure, suggest labelling. Lounge: Looked as if the previous people had just walked out, no evidence of tidying up. Remote control for tv found two days later under cushion of settee, suggest cleaner makes a bit more effort. Keys for windows: They were not consistent, some of the windows could not be unlocked and had been left in an open position. Only two hand towels left for four people and no face clothes (not as description). Washing machine dispenser left dirty and crusted with powder, had to be cleaned before use. Barbecue information incorrect as the description fitted a dilapidated version in the garden. Another one found in the shed. We found that the cupboard space in the bedrooms was very poor, certainly in the twin bedroom, especially as the space allowed for larger storage. Generally the information needs to be updated for the changes that have been made. Having made these observations we still had a nice time and the space in the house was fine.

Shabby. Would have expected more up to date facilities for the price.. Would expect that Sykes might inspect - otherwise why not use AirBnB? House had been furnished from a junk shop I think. Curtains badly hung, crockery chipped, tatty appearance, dark and gloomy. Spent most of the time in the porch as it had some windows. Will stick to AirBnB in future where at least we can read genuine reviews and know what we are getting. I am a holiday home owner myself and would feel embarrassed to have charged this much for this property

We had a perfect holiday at Woodlands.. The cottage was clean and lived up to, if not exceeded, expectations. It was well-situated for the town of Newtonmore and all facilities. The cottage was even better than its photographs and was very warm, in spite of the weather! Would definitely recommend.

This was our 5th visit to Woodlands...home from home. We feel relaxed the moment we cross the threshold of this charming old house. It is so comfortable and fully equipped with everything you need for a fantastic holiday. The kids love watching the rabbits and birds in the front garden, looking for wildcats around the village or doing the multiple activities that the Cairngorms have to offer. Already booked for next year...

July 2016
We were 6 adults who stayed for 5 nights at Woodlands during June. The weather was not always the best (no surprise), but coming home each evening to the cottage was warm and welcoming. On the 2 evenings we did have fine weather, we set up the supplied BBQ on the lawn and talked until the star came out. The house has one master bedroom with large bed, another large room with two single beds, and a smaller room with 'adult bunks'. I stayed in the bunk room, and while comfortable, it is a little on the small side if you have suitcases in there too. Other than that, everything was perfect. Lovely living room, a kitchen that had all the appliances we needed, washing machine and dryer, and a bathroom upstairs and down. The location is just off the main road, but within easy walking distance to the pub, restaurants, and shops. Overall a very pleasant stay,

My wife, son and I and a friend visited this property, and left at the end of week 1 of 2. Deisel smell permeated the house. Furniture was terribly soiled; we cleaned it. When we cleaned it, we used the Dyson cleaner that was already full, never emptied of old dirt. The washing machine required an extension cord from an outside room to an enclosed porch. The double master bedroom mattress was nearly unusable; it was like a roll out bed mattress. The kitchen was moderated equipped. Bathrooms were acceptable. There were, however, dead rats decaying under floorboards, the smell was very obvious. We all left with lung infections; our son went home to California with a bronchial disease. We complained to the agent, Sykes Cottages. Our two weeks was refunded to us and they arranged another cottage of our choice. We have photos of this experience and could share.

This property had plenty of room and was well equipped. It easily accommodates 6 people, the members of our party were not sat on each others lap. The central heating was excellent and the house was warm when we got back from 8 hours of winter climbing in the Northern Corries. Will be booking this property next year.

We liked the fact that Newtonmore was noncommercialised. It had a good supermarket nearby, and we really enjoyed hill walking in the area and being able to walk from the property. Woodlands was a very comfortable and homely base.

This is. Wonderful rental, with everything you could ever need. (Had to buy a snow shovel) . We stayed over Christmas, had family and friends for Christmas Day. Built snowmen. Watched films all snuggled up beside the log fire. The tree was glistening when we arrived. The local eateries are near, and good -with range of prices and also take always. We ate in mostly as kitchen had everything !! Beds comfy and warm, and everything to very high standard, and very clean. Cannot fault anything. Even red squirrel made a number of visits to the bird table. And is the most amazingly romantic place to accept a proposal of marriage!!!!

The accommodation was very good and the location excellent. There was loads of family activities within the area that were a hit with the kids, teen and adults. We recommend doing the wildcat hunt, and purchasing the book from the centre on the high street. It may seem pricey, but it really is not, and was great fun. We will most certainly recommend the property, and are already wondering about booking it next year.

The house was lovely, this was our third time in Newtonmore and this is the best house we have stayed in. Really handy for all the shops and The Glen Hotel is very close for meals. We are still finding new things to do and just love the area.

This venue is the perfect base to explore the national park. Not too close to the riff raff and all the facilities to make a pleasant break. Excellent instructions to all amenities and nice and warm for our autumn stay. One development would be to tighten the squeaky bed in the main bedroom.
