We’ve been visiting Ballater since the late 1990’s and used to stay in a lodge that was owned by my in-laws at the nearby Hilton Craigendarroch. They sold that in 2015. Wanting to come back we found Westwood and am very glad we did. Being in the heart of the village is so much better and everything is within a couple of minutes walk. The cottage was spotless and has been beautifully renovated. Big plus is the off street parking as the roads are quite narrow in parts of Ballater. If your visiting this part of Aberdeenshire, I’d highly recommend Westwood.

A very pleasant cottage , spotlessly clean, uncluttered and surprisingly spacious with good facilities.. Ballater is a lovely village with many walks from the front door of the cottage. The area around Ballater is beautiful with a short drive to Balmoral Castle, the Linn of Dee is a must for anyone who likes the great outdoors.

This property is delightful, sometimes you go away to then get away and normally you only really want to sleep in the rental.. I have to say this place was a joy to come back to and one you looked forward to. Ballater is a beautiful quiet town with some lovely walks. A bit tucked away but a place one should not miss. If we go back here then I will request this property as it was more than what the pictures show.

My partner and I have just returned from a long weekend break in Ballater staying in Westwood. Westwood is a beautifully finished cottage set right in the heart of Ballater. There is off street parking and we did not need to move the car from the driveway at all during the weekend. The cottage itself is freshly decorated with an open plan layout. Downstairs is large with the lounge, kitchen and dining space open plan. The kitchen is appeared newly installed and has all the facilities you would need. Upstairs are two large bedrooms with great storage and a very modern bathroom. Towels are provided. The rear garden is fully enclosed so great for children or dogs. The owners should be credited for creating such a wonderful home from home. Locally we enjoyed many walks, a Chinese takeaway, Indian and got takeaway pizzas from the Alexandra Hotel just at the end of the road. On each night we also drank in the Deeside Inn which was warm and welcoming. We would also highly recommend the Bothy and Rock Salt has Snails where we had lunches. Rock Salt and Snails is again, just at the end of the road; a lovely café with great food. We will certainly return to Ballater and to Westwood.

A perfect holiday home in a wonderful location! Westwood has everything you may need to make your stay most comfortable. It was immaculately clean & obvious from the quality fittings, the recent renovation is of the highest standard. The enclosed garden was a bonus & perfect for dog owners. We loved the downstairs open plan which wasn’t clear from the listing, but a definite plus. Ballater and the entire area is breathtaking. It’s easy to see why the Royals make this their Scotland home. Forest trails are plentiful near by and the town is full of cafes, tasteful quaint gift shops and a royal approved baker & butcher. Would absolutely recommend & can’t wait to go back!!

A lovely, comfortable holiday cottage.. All home comforts included plus extras. Nice to have tea, milk and biscuits when we got there, and all the little things like kids bowls cups made the holiday very easy! Thanks for a great week.
