Area
With an impressive 17th century market house at its centre, the conservation village of Winster is situated within the Peak District National Park. This extremely pretty location is mostly composed of three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank boasting imposing 18th Century farm houses, nearly all of which are at least three storeys tall. Off the main street visitors can find the slightly less grand though equally fascinating 'ginnels', or alleyways. The village still holds a number of traditional events throughout the year, such as a pancake race every Shrove Tuesday and the annual Wakes festivities which take place in June, as well as events hosted by the local Morris dancers. The village boasts plenty of essential amenities too - a post office/gift shop, a well stocked grocer's shop and two pubs both serving food and local traditional beers.

Region
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Sykes made the booking process straightforward and automatically debited monies when they were due which was helpful.. I loved Walton Cottage. It was perfect for our stay; peaceful and quiet, very clean, well equipped and ideally situated near Matlock. The cottage's owners were reassuringly available (living nearby in the village) but at the same time the cottage felt like 'ours' for our week there. I miss it already!

Walton Cottage is a delight.. The owners have gone to great lengths to ensure that it really is a home from home. Overall it's exceptionally clean, very well appointed and extremely comfortable whilst retaining the character of a traditional Peak District cottage. We were particularly impressed by the cosy, comfortable lounge, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and excellent shower but the real highlight was the charming garden where we could enjoy our breakfast and our G & T's(not at the same time!) whilst enjoying the terrific views of Winster and beyond. Winster itself is a small and friendly village that has two excellent pubs and a very useful village store. It's very close to Matlock where you'll find a plethora of shops including a large Sainsburys. This was our first trip to the Peak District and we found it really easy to drive to the major attractions and particularly recommend Haddon House, Buxton, Bakewell, Dove Dale and the easy cycle tracks which have been created along disused railway lines. There's so much more to explore and we will most certainly visit again and hope to be blessed again by glorious weather! Very many thanks to to our hosts, R & J, who really have thought of everything!!

Well equipped, clean and very comfortable cottage.. Winster is a lovely quiet village with an excellent community shop.It is an ideal location within easy reach of Bakewell, Matlock, Dovedale and Carsington Water, and is on the bus route between Bakewell and Matlock. There are good walks from the cottage.

Walton Cottage was just as advertised - a lovely, cozy cottage set in the middle of a beautiful, but relatively unknown Derbyshire village that is in itself a must see if you are in the area.. The cottage has a lovely terraced garden in back from which you have wonderful views of the Derbyshire hills. The cottage is meticulously maintained and scrupulously clean while at the same time being very much in character. Roger and Jean made an effort to help in any way giving us ideas for pubs, places to go and even extending an invitation to a local meeting on the customs and traditions of Winster! We would highly recommend the cottage and the village to all those planning a trip to Derbyshire!

The location was beautiful, really picture post card and it was easy access to visit the surrounding areas. The owner met as at the cottage and explained where everything was and how it worked. The cottage is in an excellent location and was so clean.

The parking at the front of the cottage could be a problem for anyone with a larger vehicle than say a Ford Focus.. Also, if you do not park correctly it can cause an obstruction to the neighbouring properties access as the space is quite tight. Apart from that excellent residence.

We loved the village of Winster, it was so friendly and so close to all the other villages, so there was not loads of driving. The cottage is an absolute delight - a real home from home. The garden is so pretty with views in every direction. The owners can be very proud of Walton Cottage.

Stayed here with a couple of friends. Cottage is perfectly situated, close to great pub and village shop, with terrific views from the terrace in the back garden. Cottage itself is really cosy and comfortable, especially with the real fireplace and had everything we needed for a short-break.

We hired this cottage for a long weekend of cycling in the Peak Park and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Great cottage which is fantastically appointed and leaves nothing required but to relax and enjoy the real fire (logs provided ) and comfortable beds. The village is picture postcard stuff and the helpful owners even helped unpack and book our dinner in the village pub! Top marks all round..... We have booked again for May 2015
