Walden Pond Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Walden Pond is a detached cottage in woodland, a mile from St. Blazey and three miles from the beach at Par. The cottage has a ground floor twin and a first floor double. The family bathroom is on the ground floor, along with the kitchen and the sitting room with dining area and woodburner. Outside is off road parking for two cars, and an open garden area with furniture. Walden Pond is within easy reach of the beach at Par, the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and much more.

Par is a village in South Cornwall which offers a sandy beach. The world-famous Eden Project is nearby, as is the Gribbin Peninsula, which is a walkers haven. There are many other attractions in the area including the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Shipwreck museum in Charlestown

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Oil central heating with woodburner in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, DVD, WiFi. Fuel, power and starter pack for woodburner inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 2 cars. Private, partially-fenced garden with furniture and BBQ. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop 10 mins walk, pubs 2 miles. Absolutely nothing wrong with Walden Pond.. Excellent as usual. A lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. Its Sykes itself that has let us down. We wrongly thought (due to Sykes pricing of the week) that October half term was the last week of October when it was the week before ie 18 to 25 October £392 against 25th October to 1st November £573..When we asked to swap weeks we were informed the price would still be £573, we had no problem as such as obviously it is half term but then on top Sykes wanted to charge £30 for changing the week. This seems extremely unfair to me.

We stayed in January during a cold snap.. After the first night the central heating stopped working, which turned out to be caused by the oil tank being empty. I think it very poor planning that the owners did not check that ther was sufficient heating oil in winter for new guests, but full marks to Kathryn the caretaker who turned up very quickly with extra logs and an electric radiator for the wood burner. Fortunately the hot water for washing is on an electric system so we could still have showers and a warm living room but it was so cold in the rest of the house that we cut short our stay. We could have done with more spare bedding as the duvets seemed to be summer weight only. The oil was not delivered until just before we checked out but we had already made new plans and had to leave anyway.

The fantastic cottage plus the brilliant help of Kathryn over the confusion of our bookings..

Everything was idyllic.. We had 5 days of unexpectedly lovely autumn weather (26 Oct to 31 Oct). The cottage is perfect, absolutely lovely, from the super-private location, through to the comfort of the beds, the facilities and so on. We did not spend time in the garden but I can imagine my children would have loved exploring it when they were younger. The photos on the website don't do the property justice - it's one of the most lovely places I've stayed at and I hope to come back very soon! We arrived in the rain at 11:45pm and couldn't find the property. It would help to have more detailed directions sent with the booking confirmation. That was the only blot (and a very minor one at that because Kathryn, the property's agent, was extremely helpful and patient when we telephoned her, moreso than I would have been if guests had rung me at midnight).

This is our 3rd visit to Walden pond.. We really enjoy the seclusion of the location. A real get away if you like the quiet life. Plenty of places are a close drive away if you want to explore Cornwall.

I have the following feedback regarding our stay at Walden Pond this year 13/07/2018 (7 nights).. As we have stayed at the cottage at least 6 times in the last few years we were very disappointed this time and probably wont be staying in the future. On Thursday morning of our stay the power to the cottage was turned off. Luckily we had taken our showers but it was about 5 minutes after and I was unable then to dry my hair. At first we thought it may just be a random power cut but after ½ an hour we realised it was not and after some investigating managed to contact the electric provider, to be told that this was planned work and the power would be off all day. We were also informed that the owners had been told. This meant we could not stay at the cottage as planned that day and also had to throw most of the food in the fridge away when we returned. This is very disappointing. Why weren’t we told about this? Surely as the agents for the property it is your responsibility. We paid £629.00 for the week we stayed and were unable to use the cottage for that day. As a side note you should also know that I checked the ‘Power cut box’ in the hall just in case we were without power on our return. The box is a joke, half a candle and a box of very old looking matches and no sign of the extra candles in the kitchen or the windup torch both listed in the information folder at the property. We also noticed this time just how generally shabby the cottage and the garden especially is starting to look, the back is completely overgrown!! It’s a real shame as this was a truly magical place when we first stayed in 2014 for our honeymoon. I guess the owners aren’t really that bothered as we did leave some comments on the board last time, just interested in taking people’s money.

We had the most fantastic week ☀️ Waking-up everyday to perfect weather ☀️ We loved the history behind the cottage- it had a story- the cottage is still so obviously loved by the family which really shows ☀️ There is a wonderful peace & tranquility that surrounds the cottage inside & out.. ☀️

This was our first holiday arranged through Sykes Cottages so we were a little apprehensive about it.. Any doubts were soon erased on arrival at Walden Pond. The cottage was great,as described and so quiet and peaceful.Perhaps it's best feature is it's location. It is perfect for getting out and visiting places.During our stay we explored Par and some of the coastal walks. We also went to Fowey,Looe,Polperro,Newquay and the lovely Padstow. We also spent full days at the incredible Eden Project and the wonderful Lost Gardens Of Heligan. The only problem we had was that the TV's freeview signal was poor probably due to high trees. This restricted the channels we could watch.A bit of a nuisance but not a deal breaker. We left a note for the owners so hopefully this will be sorted out soon. Overall we had a great time and based on this holiday we are looking forward to our next holiday with Sykes Cottages later in the year.

A very quirky cottage that was well presented inside and out. It was exceptionally clean and fitted with everything you need. The log burner was a bonus, as were the squirrels in the back yard.

The location of the cottage, off the road and the quietness. when we read the reviews they were so good we thought the owners had written them, but we can only repeat all what the previous guests said it was just great. If we were to come back to Cornwall we would stay at the cottage.

February 2016
The cottage was stunning. Well equipped and beautifully decorated. The garden was nice although we didn't get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked. The area is very pretty, tranquil and the lack of light interference from lamp-posts, buildings and cars etc mean you get a really good view of the stars when they come out at night. We spent some time transfixed gazing at the night sky in awe (despite the rain!) Overall it was a lovely trip and I'd be happy to recommend it to friends and family.
