When it's time to soak up the local culture, you'll be off to a flying start in Alberobello (fifteen-minute drive) to explore its 1500 beehive-shaped Trulli houses sprinkled with bars and shops. Or, for a taste of the sea, head to the ancient harbour town of Monopoli (a twenty-minute drive). Amid its narrow streets tracing down to a delightful port, you'll discover some of the best seafood restaurants around.
