Step inside the house and you will instantly appreciate the host’s aesthetic eye: the classic tiled floors and wooden beamed ceilings have been retained, while the whitewashed walls are dotted with post-Impressionist art.

Downstairs the cellar has been converted into a gym, so you can squeeze in a morning workout before cooling off in the outdoor pool. There are three huge bathrooms and the master bedroom comes with its own sitting room and desk where you can work. Both indoors and out there are plenty of spots to curl up with a book: from the converted mezzanine balcony to the chic sitting room, which stays cool thanks to the thick stone walls.

Come evening you can enjoy a barbecue outside, or head into Petra to sample excellent Mallorquian fare. Can Salom and Es Celler, Petra’s best restaurants, are a two-minute walk round the corner. Petra is a beautiful, sleepy town surrounded by verdant mountains and plenty of nearby hiking routes. Hop in the car for 25 minutes to reach Ca’n Picafort, a beautiful Mediterranean beach dotted with restaurants and beach bars. You will easily fall into the Mediterranean way of life here.
