However, it's not just an address that looks good on the surface – it's somewhere in which you'll find it wonderfully easy to turn off and relax. When the weather's warm, the verandah is the place to sit and gaze up at the Peloponesse skyline, but if the temperature takes a dip, you can retire next to the wood-burning fireplace or treat yourself to a long soak in the bathtub.

And of course, there will be some afternoons when the only place for it is the beach and Kalamata's main stretch of sand is only 800 metres away. You'll find a good selection of restaurants and bars along the seafront, too. Further afield, the towns of Ancient Thouria are only 30 kilometres away and well worth a visit.
