Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes.

We had an excellent stay.. Very clean and comfortable just as expected. The check in ran smoothly and the parking space was a very welcome bonus. Perfect distance from town and water. Will 100 percent be returning.

This is a perfect place from which to enjoy the glories of Ambleside and the district beyond.. So many places to eat and walk; the owner has even produced their own walk book! The kitchenette is quite small so this might not be good if you were planning to eat in all the time but with so many lovely eateries in town and a short drive away, this was not a problem for us. Bed and sofa were comfortable and having WiFi is always a bonus.

Amazing property that is self contained and cosy Owner is friendly and left us fresh milk and chocolates on our arrival Would recommend this apartment to anyone , but be aware it is situated on the upper floor so access may not be suitable for all, though this is highlighted in the listing as well..

Listing was misleading because the kitchen was a cupboard with a noisy extractor fan, a very small hob and no oven.. The 2 seater settee in the small dining room come kitchen had seen better days and the seats were sunken. The underfloor heating in the bathroom wasn’t working so the light fitted extractor fan when running made the small bathroom cool. While there was a very comfortable bed, the heating for the apartment was connected to the landlady’s downstairs. Therefore there wasn’t no way to operate the heating independently in the apartment. In the middle of December this is very problematic and the landlady needed to be contacted three times during our four night stay to request that the heating was turned on. On Christmas Day, we returned to a cold flat to sit with our coats on until the heating was turned on. Overall, a poor and disappointing experience.

The accommodation was great for myself and my husband; a very comfortable apartment with everything You may need and more! Parking space at the side of accommodation, where we left our car for most of the week, due to being within walking distance of everything and good bus service to other towns. We had a fantastic week- Location perfect -just a 5 minute walk from Ambleside town, and so many beautiful walks- We particularly enjoyed the walk we took into Grasmere! Lots of lovely shops in the town, a very nice park and plenty of good places to eat and drink. The gorgeous weather was a bonus too! ( May half term). Perfect!

This was very much a last minute booking; the evening before we wished to stay! The staff at Sykes were extremely helpful and efficient in processing my booking and confirming with the owner that the apartment was indeed available in spite of the very short notice. There was an issue either with a link or with my email preventing me from completing the booking on line but when I notified them I received a telephone call immediately from another member of Sykes who processed the payment successfully. Given the last minute circumstances this was much appreciated. The apartment was perfect. Ideally situated in Ambleside, with dedicated off road parking provided. We had a very friendly welcome from the owner, Helen. The apartment was scrupulously clean with all the facilities required for self-catering and we were extremely comfortable throughout our stay. Little extra touches such as a fresh pint of milk in the fridge and a bowl of chocolates as a treat were very thoughtful, so too the provision of local walking guides and a booklet outlining places to eat and other local amenities. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return to Upper Tweenways in the future. A big thank you to the staff at Sykes who made it so easy to book and also to Helen for providing such a wonderful apartment.

Accommodation clean and very well equipped.. Few small extras, like toiletry pack and milk in fridge made a nice welcoming gesture. Kitchenette very small and inconvenient, but this was clear on the description and photos, so we knew what to expect! Would probably choose the owner's larger flat next time. Excellent location for walks and buses, we did not use our car all week.

We only have one comment that is certainly not a complaint but more simply just a comment.. The bed was furnished with a duvet which was 10,5 tog. Of course we understand that the Lake District is often a cold place however, during our stay it was at worst cool but happily, most of the time quite warm so the 10,5 tog duvet was really over the top for us. We contacted our host and she was able to attend the following day and provided us with a 4.5 tog duvet which was fine. Really though, this should have been in the flat ready for use. There was a blanket there but this didn't cover the bed fully and a cover that was even smaller so not suitable. We think that any premises should have bedding provided ready at the premises that caters for a range of temperature.

We loved the fact that the location was within easy walking distance of hiking routes and restaurants etc, yet our accommodation was very private and quiet. We found that there was lots of room in the open concept kitchen/lounging area where we enjoyed watching a few soccer games in the evening after hiking all day! We will definitely recommend this accommodation to our friends and would definitely stay here again.
