This was our second stay at Melbecks farm with our two young grandchildren, and we had a great time, although they were disappointed the games room was closed on this occasion due to Covid, and no WiFi- but they survived! The cake and biscuits went down a treat - little things mean a lot. The kids want to come back and stay in Dodd.

Excellent accommodation with everything we needed.. Beautiful location and within easy distance of Keswick by car. Children loved the garden and all the wildlife. Phone signal not an issue for us which quite a few other people reviewing pointed out. Will be definitely visiting again!!

The most beautiful setting, loved waking up to the sound of woodpeckers and watching the red squirrels in the garden.. The cottage was very well equipped and perfect for our children and dogs. We would definitely come back!! A bonus was the walk down to the pub in Bassenthwaite village for Sunday lunch and an evening meal (both were very nice) and the kids loved playing in the river.

Overall we were very pleased with our cottage, Uldale.. Our only criticism is the en-suite bathroom, which is very "tired" & in need of refurbishment. There was no form of heating in the en-suite, definitely needed a heated towel rail as there was nowhere to hang our towels to dry, not even a hook behind the door. We couldn't get the taps to work to fill the bath, they kept reverting to the shower, and the shower screen was very 'dodgy' when we tried to pull it open.

The ensuite toilet was noisy.. This bedroom was airless and there was no mechanism to open the window. Normal movement in this room was too noisy for our family occupants in the bedroom downstairs. I hadnt noticed there was no Wi-Fi and mobile signal was poor. That was my fault. Locatiin was good. Views good. Overall i felt the property was overpriced. There were red sqirrels and woodpeckers to view up close.

We were all delighted with Uldale Cottage, and with all of Melbecks.. The only minor niggle was the upstairs Saniflo toilet in the ensuite was very noisy for the bedroom downstairs. Apart from that we couldn't have been happier with the cottage.

This was a gorgeous little holiday home.. It had a comfortable feel, with an interesting and quirky layout. It was well equipped and the owners didn’t scrimp on items such as toilet rolls, dishwasher tabs etc. It was also a nice touch to leave a chocolate cake and Easter egg on our arrival. Although in a lovely quiet location, the cottage is very close to local amenities e.g. Keswick; whinlatter forest park etc. Thoroughly recommend it

No internet or mobile phone network and quite a long way off the beaten track which was great for us but may not be suitable for all.. Wildlife was excellent in the area.

The photos on the website really didn't do the cottage justice.. We had a fantastic stay, the cottage was so welcoming and homely with great facilities. The games room was a great bonus too. It was lovely to be welcomed with a cake and a pint of milk..a nice touch.

The cottage itself is upside down, childrens and a double bedroom on ground floor, kitchen and living room upstairs with another bedroom (the main one really with ensuite) . The cottage had EVERYTHING you could ever need. I even found a sewing kit which was very useful. Owners thoughtfully left milk and tea / coffee etc as well as cake and Halloween themed decorations and chocolates for the kids. Beds are clean and comfortable, mattresses are in 'as new' excellent condition (yes, we looked) . This cottage is attached to others, one to the side and two more behind. It is easy to park and the games room was useful for dvds on an evening and games.

The location of this property is excellent lovely walks from the front door and views over Bassenthwaite lake. The gardens were excellent with plenty of choice of where to sit outside with coffee and cake or lunch. There was wildlife in abundance lots of red squirrels cuckoo's and other bird life. The red telephone is at the rear of the property and they are set back down a lovely track. Lots of beautiful flowers. Great open plan living that has recently all been updated (the pics definitely don't do it justice) we went with my Dad who is registered disabled and once up the stairs he had everything he needed in one place. Definitely worth a visit

I thought the site was extremely picturesqe and well maintained. The cottage had been decorated for Christmas and was extremely welcoming. The heating was good, even though we obviously went in the middle of winter we never felt cold. The laundry room was a God send, particularly as we had a dog, wellington boots, coats galore to accommodate and it was cold enough to store food and drinks over the course of our stay. The owners were so helpful and friendly and we felt we could have approached them easily if anything had gone wrong.

A fantastic location with beautiful views and great walks all around. It was a brilliant family accommodation with plenty of room for all the family to enjoy. The accommodation was very clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated with some nice quirky touches. All round it was an excellent accommodation and good value for money.

I enjoyed being in peaceful countryside, being able to walk from the house and not too far from Keswick. The house was comfortable and for once it was nice to not have to worry about parking.

Just got back from a weekend staying in Uldale holiday cottage. We had a fantastic time. The pictures on the website don't do it justice as it has been refurbished since then. The rooms are spacious and well laid out. The cottage is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. There are games and dvds to borrow, a games room which our 11 year olds and my 9 year old niece loved (and the dads!) and a swing. We arrived to find fresh eggs, which tasted amazing and cake... a lovely touch. The views are stunning. It is in a quiet area but that was a good thing for us, the children enjoyed looking for wildlife and being outside. Keswick is a 5 minute drive away if you need anything. We would not hesitate to visit here again.

Great location with views over Bassenthwaite and the surrounding Fells, with easy access to Keswick and the Northern lakes. The cottage was a really comfortable base in which to relax and enjoy sighting the resident red squirrel and many birds. Our boys loved the on-site games room which was perfect for rainy mornings.

The children loved the swing in the shared area and games room, and the choice of DVDs. It was a relaxed atmosphere, and there was space outside for our dog to explore.

This cottage is excellent, very clean and modern. It is in a fantastic secluded location, walking distance (if your family likes to walk) to Bassenthwaite Lake. The games room was great for younger and older children, as well as adults. I would thoroughly recommend it.

The cottage was lovely and very clean it had everything you needed home from home. The photos on the website don't do it justice as it has been beautifully decorated since they were taken. The only negative thing I would say was it would of been nice to have wifi. I would definitely stay here again.

We really enjoyed staying at Uldale. The cottage was very comfortable and we were made to feel very welcome. The games room was a hit with adults and children alike and a place for the children to relax after a day out walking. Thank you very much, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Uldale again.

We had a great week in a lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage. The owners were available if needed and the kids enjoyed cuddles with the dogs. The swing in the garden and the games room were brilliant and well used all week. Even the weather cooperated!

A good base for walking in the lakes. Slightly too far from pub to walk due to time of year (October) but fabulous pub which we visited regularly. Barn conversion immaculate and good for two dogs and two families including teens but only downside was not enough room to dry out wet clothing (wettest trip to Lakes so far!). Would definitely recommend as had great welcome pack to get us started which included home made cake!! Also spotted red squirrels in the garden.

The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. There was plenty of room for everyone, and the utility room was useful for storing walking equipment. The games room and garden area were useful, and the bird feeders attracted a large number of birds, all off which added to a very enjoyable weekend.

The cottage was spot on, it had everything and more than we would have had at home, there was complementary cake, eggs, milk and tea/coffee when we arrived late at night, we thought that was a lovely gesture. The owners were very helpful when we needed some help and also provided us with places to visit .We will definitely return

Well designed barn development, modern facilities in a rustic environment. Everything provided. A much appreciated 'welcome' of eggs, milk and cake on arrival. Pleasant and helpful, but not intrusive, owners.

Due to all sorts of reasons we left booking a cottage to the last minute...crazy, bearing in mind that it was coming up to the bank holiday weekend! We came across this cottage and though we could only get 3 nights as they were fully booked up it was well worth it! The rooms were spacious with the added bonus of the upstairs room having an ensuite, the two downstairs rooms shared a bathroom. Beds were comfortable and the sitting room area was spacious and homely. Plenty of books and brochures for everyone to plan what to do. Upon arrival there was some eggs, milk and a cake to welcome us...a very nice touch! It was a quiet and lovely place to start our holiday in the lake district with...watch out for the man eating squirrels and free range children :)
