The town is England’s highest market town, with cobbled, winding streets to explore, and was the location for ITV’s Jane Eyre and Oliver Twist. There is an abundance of unusual shops, locally made specialities and historic 17th Century stone buildings; it’s no wonder Alston inspired the work of many artists and writers.
