Tigh Darby Self-Catering

Holiday home
Tigh Darby is a charming, detached cottage just one mile from the seaside village of Spiddal in County Galway and can sleep six people. The cottage has three double bedrooms, one single bedroom, a ground floor bathroom, a shower room with shower and basin, a separate basin and WC, a kitchen, an external utility, a dining room with an oil fired stove and seating area (seats 2) and a sitting room with a gas fire. Outside there is off road parking for four cars and a lawned garden to the front with patio and furniture. Tigh Darby is a wonderful base for your holiday in Ireland.

The small seaside village of Spiddal, on the Irish Coast, overlooks Galway Bay and the Aran Islands. With numerous restaurants and pubs, two beaches and a lovely coastal golf course it has something to suit all tastes. Only 12 miles to the east lies Galway City, where you can discover some of Ireland's long and varied history; visit Lynch's Castle, or trace the origin of the famous Claddagh Ring, which originated in a village near the shore of Galway Bay. A lovely coastal village, not to be missed.

Lovely place.. Very well equipped and lovely hosts. Ideal spot for touring connemara

Excellent accommodation in idyllic site, adjacent to Galway City but remote enough to be ‘socially distant’ in these unprecedented times.. Lovely, hospitable hosts in Sally and Gerry who live in neighbouring house, provided an ample supply of freshly baked scones and tea, on our arrival. Their two ponies in adjoining fields were just as friendly, our 13 month granddaughter delighting in feeding And stroking them as often as she could. Great base for discovering the natural beauty of Connemara and treks, over our five day stay, across Galway Bay, into County Clare. Galway City itself is 25 minute drive with it’s fine array or eateries, shops and Latin Quarter, doing their best in the new ‘normal’. All in all a welcome break and priceless family time.

Tigh Darby was just perfect.. Sally and her husband were amazing hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The house was beautiful, spacious and extremely comfortable. The perfect spot in Galway. I highly recommend Tigh Darby and we are looking forward to our next visit!

The house is in a very convenient location just 1 mile from Spiddal, where there are bars shops and a hotel with a very good restaurant.. Galway and Salthill are easy to get to along a main route. Sally is a wonderful host, extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived to a basket of lovely fresh baked scones. The house was warm and comfortable and had a really well stocked kitchen with lots of pots, pans and dishes. Would definitely recommend staying here.

W e discovered that the property was an excellent location for touring Connemara and The Burren.. It was also easy to visit the Cliffs of Mor and the Aran Islands by boat. W e visited Galway city and Limerick and other areas in the west. The Wild Atlantic drive was memorable!!! We enjoyed the local food especially the fish and the Irishbread The restaurants and pubs served lovely meals and what can I say about the Guinness?? The local craft shops were sensational . What talented people!! We were made so welcome everywhere we visited. I look forward to my next visit

The property is immaculately kept and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome.. Lovely views from the front bedrooms. The description online does not do the property justice as the rooms are more spacious than the pictures show and it is extremely comfy both the bedrooms and the seating areas. Good bus service into Galway although check the times as they are not frequent. Loads of lovely beaches in the area to visit and had some lovely meals in the local pubs and the hotel in the village. Went to the Aquarium in Salthill which is worth a visit . Brigit's garden was lovely and the food amazing. Coral beach at Carraroe was also worth a visit but no good for sandcastles. For gifts you won't find better than Standuns at the edge of Spiddal for quality and price. The Crystal factory in Moycullen was also lovely but not for younger children as some of the exhibits will be expensive to pay for if damaged. The only problem we had when arriving was finding the house as the 'how to find us' on the email shows 'Sala Chuana' but the sign which is marked on a stone on the right coming from Spiddal shows the Gaelic name of 'Saile Chuna' . We ended up phoning the owner after going past the turning and she came to the end of the lane to find us. There is a blue sign at present showing 'Sea Mist B & B' on the left hand side which may help guests to find the correct turning. All in all a lovely week was had by us all.

Sally and Gerry were great hosts.. Could not have been friendlier or more generous. Fresh scones on arrival. Milk, butter, tea bags, etc left for when we arrived. Sally even brought around some free range eggs one morning. Great place to stay. Clean. One of best beds I have slept in. Loads of big towels. Lot of little touches really helped. Such as an umbrella by kitchen door. Not that we needed it as weather was great. Wi fi was excellent but did struggle to get a good mobile phone signal unless you went outside. But that’s a very minor issue. Would recommend this accommodation. And if you could guarantee the good weather would definitely go back.

We spent a wonderful week.. The house met all our expectations in terms of comfort, geographical situation and welcoming. It proved spacious for 5 people. It is nicely decorated and really enables to prepare and have meals and enjoy peaceful evenings. It is easy and quick to go sightseeing around Connemara and County Clare. The environment is beautiful and the owners extremely warm, generous and always ready to help.

The owners Sally and Gerry were such a lovely couple.. They live next door so met them a couple of times during our stay. Always stopped for a chat and asked how things were going. They have a pony who we got to meet on one of the last days as our son had kept hearing the horse but we never seen it. The house has everything you need and more all supplied by hosts. Lovely little touches like fresh flowers in sitting room and kitchen, freshly home baked scones on arrival, towels, dish towels provided for use. The kitchen was well stocked cutlery, crockery and other utensils. The house had plenty of room for us party 4 adults and 2 kids. You would need a car if staying here as we used ours a lot as found the immediate area did not have much to do so needed to travel further for activities. The weather was nice and dry and imagine it would be a gorgeous area on a lovely hot sunny day.

We stayed in Tigh Darby for a week in July and had a really lovely holiday.. The house was much more spacious than shown in the photos. Sally and Gerry were very welcoming and friendly and brought us home made scones on arrival. We much appreciated milk, tea, coffee and butter on arrival. Thank you! All the beds were extremely comfortable and the owners have invested in good quality mattresses. The house is a short walk into Spiddal and the countryside or Galway Bay can be seen out of each window. The house was very clean and very comfortable and the facilities excellent. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend it,

This was a very warm and comfortable cottage which was full of character with very good facilities (especially the wifi). It is an excellent location, close to lovely beaches and a short drive from Salt Hill and Galway. There is plenty of parking with a safe, gated garden for children to run around in. It is a very spacious house which accommodated two grandparents, two parents, 3 year old twins and a baby comfortably. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. We definitely hope to return.

We thought the owners of Tigh Darby were both helpful and friendly. The house feels more like a home than a holiday accommodation. I would recommend it to both families and large groups.

First of all, the owners are a very warm and friendly couple whom we had the pleasure of meeting on our visit. The property is a two-storey 4 bedroom property with two fire places. The TV room was especially cosy with a nice sofa set and a warm fireplace which my wife and I enjoyed especially. The added bonus is that this property has WiFi access throughout the house. We certainly recommend others to stay in this property and my wife and I would certainly return to stay here again when we next visit Galway.

The property was delightful, very well appointed, clean and welcoming for guests. The location is excellent! The home is very comfortable and has additional conveniences that may not be found at a typical rental home. For example, the WiFi is quite robust. With two teenagers streaming video and two parents working on email the WiFi connection handled the load without complaint. We also found that we greatly appreciated having a dryer available for our clothes. We spent our holiday hiking and inasmuch had considerable laundry to wash and dry. Additionally, the kitchen is very well appointed and the dishwasher was also appreciated. Our hosts were very kind but not intrusive. We would highly recommend this home as a wonderful holiday home.

The house was a great base for our travels around Galway bay. Had a view of the sea, which was only a short walk, as was the small town of Spiddal.
