Self-Catering Reviews

Mrs Roberton
September 2020
Loved the quirkiness of the house with its own bar.. Felt like we were in a little pub! Its an old house and we loved the history and the old photos and bits and bobs around the house. Went with a toddler, so the safe garden was perfect. A welcome hamper was a lovely touch, and the owner made us feel very welcome. Would go back if we were holidaying in that area again.

Excellent accomodation for a group, family or friends, as all bedrooms have en suite bathrooms.. Very clean and comfortable. Spacious kitchen and lovely big garden . The summer house was a delight. Plenty of possible country walks and within a few miles from interesting towns. A very enjpyable holiday which we have already recommended to friends.

Pictures don’t do it justice, it was brilliant and we loved it.. ..cozy while having plenty of space to chill out and read a book alone if you want to... a weekend in a pub in Wales...what more do you want? Owner very friendly and helpful too.

If you like cold showers, no central heating and lots of spider webs everywhere this is the place to stay..

Unique property with a great atmosphere.. Well equipped, good heating and plenty of hot water. Decent quality furnishings, loads of space, and a lovely welcome basket! Could only be improved by the addition of a dishwasher and tumble drier- catering for so many people creates a lot of washing up- but we will probably be back regardless of these things. Thank you!

Would be nice to have a tumble dryer in the property.. Also maybe a dart board in the pub style area so you can have that feeling of a pub. Also as it's late to check in(4pm)maybe leave later at 11am considering we have to strip the beds when leaving, which I do find strange as at end of day we are on holiday. Plus all rooms have a TV in except the family room, which would of been nice to have.

Mrs Garrett was incredibly helpful and diligent.. The Talkhouse was great fun to be in and had more than enough room for us all. We were a party of 10 , which included 5 adults and 5 young people. Both the adults and the youngsters thoroughly enjoyed the garden and there was space for plenty of activities. We all enjoyed our music nights, our quiz and games nights. There are some splendid walks nearby, as well as a lovely beach at Aberdovey. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

The property is totally charming and we had a lovely stay.. I understand there may not be anything you can do it improve it, but the Wifi signal/speed is pretty dreadful! Had to use 4G most of the time. Also, while the sheets, bathrooms, kitchen and floors were lovely and clean, there were a lot of cobwebs on the walls and ceilings and a fair amount of dust on the less-used furniture. That attention to detail would bump the cleanliness score to top marks! Otherwise, Thank you!

Accurate description on Sykes website Great house for our group of 6 adults and 4 pre-teenage children.. Very interesting/unusual ground floor layout as it had been a pub/restaurant (old website is still on the internet). No major alterations except for removal of beer pumps (pump with no beer!). Even retained the Gents and Ladies toilets. House directly borders the road (no front garden) but we were not disturbed by traffic at any time during our stay. Plenty of space for the whole family to sleep, eat and socialise with a quiet snug much appreciated by grandparents. Good garden for the children to play and for eating out. Plenty of parking and a good location for visiting reservoirs and seaside towns. Tesco did an excellent home delivery and shops/supermarkets (and McDonald's!) in nearby Newtown. Apart from Newtown and a very interesting Sculpture Park (free entry) not a lot to see in the very immediate vicinity but a lot to see/do by car. Will be very difficult to find somewhere as good for our next family holiday.. Only a couple of minor problems - no notice not to use urinals in Gents (water turned off), bit short on mugs and toilet paper. Highly recommended.

Fantastic property with plenty of room.. In our party there were 6 adults,3 children aged 3 and an infant. The kids loved playing in the spacious garden and on the rainy days there was plenty of room inside for all of us without being on top of one another. The men in the group certainly made use of the bar area! The comfort of an open fire in the evening was lovely. We didn't manage to do many walks from the cottage as the road is not paved so had to drive everywhere but this did not spoil it for us. Only recommendation would be for a dishwasher but this is a minor element. Would certainly recommend and return in the future.

Being a converted Pub, there are ample of corners you can slip into and numerous places to enjoy time together. The Garden is well landscaped and the kids loved the time they spent outdoors. Highly recommended for families.

The Talkhouse is comfortable, spacious with a fantastic bar/pub area, a great place to be together or spread out around the house. We had an amazing Christmas here. The house was clean and we'll equipped with plenty of fresh clean towels. Each room having its own en suite was a massive added bonus I'd definitely consider booking again and would recommend to friends.

We had a fantastic weekend at The Talkhouse. The house was fantastic and perfect for both the adults and the children in the party. We were stuck inside for the weekend because of the bad weather but there was so much space it wasn't an issue. The bar area was amazing. We will definitely be returning!

Liked everything, it was a really fantastic venue and the owner was helpful but not intrusive. We all had a fantastic weekend and have recommended widely. The photos do not do this lovely old pub justice.

We loved the uniqueness of the property. It is unusual to have an old pub as part of the downstairs. The bedrooms were really well looked after. So many ensuites just made it so easy for us too!

August 2015
Very spacious accommodation that enabled a large family to reunite and enjoy each other's company without getting under each other's feet! When the sun was shining it was wonderful to sit outside the house, or in the bandstand and for a little while watch the wildlife and think that the world is a wonderful place. The bar is a unique feature that allows drinks for the family to be sorted (and consumed!) without interfering with activity in the kitchen.
