Loved the cottage and the area

An wonderful location in a quiet village with two excellent pubs.. Plenty of things to do in the area, we particularly enjoyed a trip on the steam train to Whitby. The owner was very welcoming & we greatly appreciated the hospitality pack he left for us.

The Tack Room Cottage is a beautifully re-furbished out-building in an idyllic farmstead setting, in a small complex of stone buildings, courtyards and gardens, with an elegant small 'manor farmhouse' at its heart.. The whole is surrounded by pastures and woodland belonging to the property, allowing a fair bit of walking whilst hardly leaving the grounds. This includes seven minutes to your very own 'Farm Shop and Cafe', extremely friendly and well-stocked with self-catering treats, liquid and otherwise, and a perfect place for 'brunch' made largely of home grown or very local fresh food. The local area, just outside the Peak District National Park, is classic, English countryside: deep valleys with woods and running streams, high moorland, unspoilt villages clustered round their churches and traditional pubs. If you want peace and quiet, you've got it! If you like a heritage site to visit, Chatsworth is unmissable: both the house and the gardens are worth every penny and every minute of a few hours at a time. We went twice, once for the gardens (with grandchildren) and once for the house (by ourselves). Coming back to the cottage itself, it can cope well enough with two couples and two children, accommodation-wise, though the kitchen - and especially the fridge - did struggle for space a bit (we arrived in a heatwave!) The only other thing we would have different (in an ideal world) is more daylight in the main living room - just one window to see out of would be nice. On the odd rainy day, being cooped up in the house felt a little claustrophobic. This was apparent from an earlier review, so we were happy to accept it as it was and not let it spoil the holiday. When the sun was shining, we used the small, pretty back lawn for meals and drinks. The outside table and chairs there were fine but there was nothing to lounge on, so bring your own loungers or a rug, if that's what you like! The owner, Lesley, was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. We were left to our own devices unless we asked for something - such as re-booting the wi-fi router, which there was quite a need of for a day or two. There were plans to address that, so it may no longer be an issue; and it worked well anyway, with good bandwidth, most of the time. We went away with a couple of bags of lovely fresh vegetables from the next door garden, too - very generous and very tasty! To cap all that, we left something quite precious behind (it had slipped under a wardrobe) and Lesley followed up on it assiduously. The cleaners found it, on looking again, and it was posted back to us without charge. You could not wish for warmer or better organised hospitality!

It was stated that this property had an 'enclosed garden' which was the reason why I booked this property as I have a small dog.. I rang Sykes to confirm that this was the case and was told that, yes, the garden was enclosed When I arrived at the Tack Room I realised the garden wasn't enclosed at all The representative I spoke to at Sykes clearly had no idea about the real facilities at the property and was only reading the description of the property as I had done. I feel Sykes should check that the facts advertised in the property description are correct otherwise all other property descriptions will be taken with a pinch of salt and in my case will prevent me from using Sykes again

The Tack room was bigger than it looked, clean and had a bottle of wine, milk and lemon cake waiting for us on arrival.. Lesley was so lovely and helpful. It was my dads 60th Birthday whilst away and she put banners and balloons all in the cottage to make it really special. We would highly recommend and would love to return. Many thanks again. Emma

Beautiful accommodation, tastefully decorated and very clean, lots of space for two families and two children.. Close to various attractions and places of interest. Owner was very helpful. Only slight negative was WiFi/internet was pretty poor.

It was a Nice cottage and the owners were very friendly.. We were with six adults and the kitchen had everything we needed, but was a bit small. We loved the wooden Floors in the living room. We were out all Day dancing, and therefore we appreciated the comfortabele bathrooms and beds very much. There was hardly any daylight in the living room, but it idn't bother us since we were out all day.

Lovely cottage, beautiful furnished in a peaceful setting.. The owners were welcoming and friendly and I was very pleased with the wine and cake left for me. My dog Pippin, had plenty of space outside to roam and thoroughly enjoyed herself. I would certainly recommend this cottage and would like to visit again in the future.

The cottage was very clean and well presented as described.. The two double bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, the single room (which has an extra pull out single bed underneath) served our needs very well. A hand rail to assist with the first few steps leading down to the cottage from the car park would be helpful but this did not detract from our stay. Both Lesley (the owner) and her parents who we met, were very helpful with local advice and ensuring our stay at the cottage went as smoothly as possible. Convenient for Ashover which has a number of good pubs and for the wider South East Derbyshire area. If visiting the area again this cottage would be top of our list.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner's mother and father were very welcoming (the owner was away on holiday).. Would use this cottage again if holidaying in the area and were very pleased overall with the Sykes experience and the range of properties on their books.

Mince pies and a Christmas tree awaiting us when we arrived.. A nice touch. Comfortable, warm and well equipped. Dark nights and a small baby meant entertaining ourselves at the cottage in the evening so access to iplayer or even Netflix would have been good. We played board games and sourced a festive dvd instead.

The pictures really don’t do this cottage justice.. It is a beautiful and cosy cottage set in wonderful surroundings and the owners are so friendly and helpful. We had the perfect restful break here over Christmas and we would definitely recommend it to anyone, as well as recommending booking through Sykes. Everything was straightforward and communication about our stay was great.

We were there with a toddler grandson and the lock on the bathroom was not very .... We were there with a toddler grandson and the lock on the bathroom was not very safe as he could lock it from the inside and it could not be open from the out side so we had to improvise other than that great holiday and very attentive owners

We were taken aback (as were other contributors to the comments book! ) at the lack of natural light downstairs in the cottage living room - we feel the details should make clear that there is NO WINDOW and the only light is through the tiny windows in the door. The photo in the cottage details is misleading as it appears as if the mirror is a window.

The Tack Room is one of the most beautiful cottages we've stayed in, location was absolutely perfect.. The photos do not do the accommodation justice, so much larger than we expected & beautifully decorated. Local pubs within walking distance, everyone very friendly.

We received a personal welcome to the Tack Room which is in a quiet location in beautiful countryside.. We spent a lot of time in the sunny garden. The Tack Room is well furnished and very comfortable. It is a short walk to dog friendly pubs and Marsh Green farm shop and cafe.

A beautifully decorated and well appointed spacious cottage, the perfect home from home. All 5 occupants during our stay were sad to return home! The photographs do not convey just how large it is. It is located down a private road in very beautiful and quiet surroundings. The lovely little village of Ashover is an easy 10 minute walk away. It served as the ideal base for our adventures not being far from anything we wanted to see or do. The owner was very friendly and we were very touched to receive a welcome basket on arrival. I took advantage of a 10% discount on a delicious Full English Breakfast at the Marsh Green Farm Shop whilst awaiting the arrival of the rest of my party. I also purchased some delicious locally reared meat joints for us to cook in the well appointed kitchen. Everything we needed was provided: Bedding; Towels; Toiletries; TV; WiFi (albeit often temperamental at letting us connect which we mentioned to the owner); Fridge; Freezer; Microwave; Cooker; Kettle; Toaster; Kitchen Equipment; Books; DVD's; & Games. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all had experienced excellent quality of sleep throughout our stay, in fact we struggled to get the children out of their beds some mornings! We very much hope to return one day and I highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to explore the area.

The Tack Room Cottage is a luxurious and extremely spacious property located in a beautiful rural setting, ideally situated for exploring the Peak District.. A wonderful home from home with everything you need to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. I highly recommend the incredibly short trip to Marsh Green Farm Shop & Cafe for excellent locally reared meat, we were so impressed that we managed to squeeze in both a roast lamb dinner and a roast longhorn beef dinner during our stay! I very much hope to return in the not too distant future.

A beautiful warm welcoming cottage.. I would definitely return to The Tack Room Cottage the owners were friendly and it's a great place to stay as a base with some beautiful walks right from the door. Ashover is a lovely village and the locals made us feel welcome in the Black Swan and Poets corner.

Very disappointed to be charged credit card fee of £7.. 50 on both the deposit and the balance, especially so close to the rules changing when you won't be able to do this! Suppose you'll just add another surcharge on somewhere to cover for these charges.

Lovely family holiday in pretty, well equipped accommodation, in a beautiful location.. With only one day of rain, we were out and about every day, finding more than enough to do to please everyone (children, parents, and grandparents).

Lovely little cottage and would definitely recommend it. It’s very clean and looks newly decorated and has everything you need including washing machine/dryer, dishwasher and plenty of bathrooms and toilets! Bedrooms are a great size and so is the living room. Only slight downsize is the kitchen is small and there is a dining room table in it which is far too big. Once people are sat around it, it’s a bit of a squeeze. A fold away table would be better. But that’s just nit picking!! Would definitely come back here again and recommend it to others. Owners also left us some milk, a lovely cake and bottle of wine as a welcoming gift :)

We loved the cottage, it was everything it was advertised as being and more; the standard was excellent. We loved that there were numerous footpaths that all led back to the village and we had fun exploring them. There were three local pubs in walking distance and the two that we visited served excellent food, were very dog friendly and had a good atmosphere. We had a brilliant time and would definitely like to return.

We booked The Tack Room for a New Year's Eve break for ourselves and some friends. The pictures looked lovely on the website but the property is even better in the flesh. The standard of finish is high with a gorgeous kitchen and very tasteful décor. All rooms are a decent size and the property was immaculate. It is also worth noting how accommodating and helpful the owner was who was on hand if we needed anything. Lovely people and a lovely property!
