It has enough sleeping accommodation for up to eight people, offering a contemporary base for large families or a group of friends. Area
Whitby is one of the most popular locations in North Yorkshire. Situated close to the River Esk it spans up the coast amongst some of the region's finest scenery. The town is rich with historical landmarks and the coastal waters give way to fossils which you can dig up on your own or buy from local vendors. The well-preserved architecture, such as Whitby Abbey, has appeared in some very famous movies and television series. Now lying in ruins, Whitney Abbey is a local landmark that towers almost two hundred steps above the historic St. Mary's Church. Local lore speculates that Dracula himself was laid to rest on the church grounds. In addition to the Abbey, the town itself has a large amount of shopping, fine dining, and theatres to keep you occupied during your tour of this lovely seaside resort.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Amenities
Gas central heating with gas fire in sitting room. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, 3 x TVs, Freeview, DVD, radio/CD player, WiFi. The house has everything you could need for your holiday, we have 2 small children and it was perfect.. The little play area opposite the house was a real benefit as well. We have re booked for next year.

We had stayed here before and enjoyed the location and facilities.. Even better this time with a new reclining sofa in the lounge. It was easy to get in touch with the owner to arrange arrival etc. All good, well be back, Whitby is Fab!! Many thanks :)

May 2019
2 families stayed together in this lovely cottage. There was plenty of room for all of us over 3 floors. Whitby is our favourite seaside town, and we stay every year. It is 15 minute walk into town which meant we couldn't just pop in if we had forgotten something but it is a pleasant enough walk so don't be deterred by this. Great for parking and a little park across from the house for those with young children. The kitchen is well stocked. Thank goodness there is a second lounge, to ship the teenagers in as the living room would be very cosy with everyone in it. My only grumble was the squeaky floorboards. Put a heavy sleeper in the downstairs bedroom as noise from the floorboards in the kitchen makes it impossible to have a lie in if other people are up. But don't let this stop you from visiting this cottage as it is lovley and modern.

October 2018
The cottage/property was excellent, well equipped, great location and only 12mins walk to the swing bridge.. No need to go to the harbour to crab. The crabbing off the marina, 100yards away, was brilliant. Highly recommend.
Mrs Massey
September 2018
Excellently maintained property - clean and welcoming.. Kitchen is fully equipped and has enough cutlery, glasses, cups, saucers, plates and dishes for a full household. Location is perfect as it is only a 10 minute walk down a slight gradient from the house to the swing bridge that leads into the centre of town. There is a short cut on the way back that bypasses the steps outside the house. The property has a book containing useful information, contact details and recommendations for dining out. Our party was made up of two couples, one child, a 21 year old and a 78 year old. The ground floor bedroom is ideal for an older person who cannot manage too many stairs and there is a toilet next door. The utility room on the ground floor gives access to the garden and has a washing machine and dryer. The first floor kitchen is excellent for getting together over food and we found it ideal for playing trivial pursuit. The only thing we could criticise is the TV and lounge furniture - the TV crackled sometimes and although the sofa is comfortable it was easy to slip down into a horizontal position and often difficult to get up from. This would not stop me from booking this property again but I would hope the sofa is replaced in the not too distant future. An excellent holiday property in an excellent location.

August 2018
The Shipwright’s is a lovely place for a holiday.. Located conveniently for the centre of Whitby, it is clean, bright and comfortable. The owners are friendly and responsive. We had a great week. Thank you, Shipwright’s. If I had a gripe, I would like to be bombarded with fewer emails from Sykes. Ideally, none at all would be nice. This is, of course, no criticism of the Shipwright’s itself. June 2018
Fabulous property in a great location, comfortable / clean and well appointed.. It’s the best accommodation we have stayed in. We particularly appreciated a spacious house suitable for our extended family of all ages, with parking in a quiet location only a short walk from town. Our children loved playing in the small park opposite, which made getting them ready on a morning a speedy pleasure! We would definitely recommend and stay again.
Mr Hornsby
May 2018
We are not keen on the Friday to Friday booking as it means facing rush hour traffic which is particularly bad on a bank holiday weekend.. A Saturday start would be much more preferable.
Mrs Turner
April 2018
The holiday home was not clean, we had to wash all the pots we needed to use, the food bowels had dried food in the cups where stained.. there are cobwebs in the bathrooms, the radiators were dirty so were the stair banisters the whole place needed a good clean. finger prints on everything greasey ones all over the kitchen ****************** Owner response: ****************** We are sorry that your experience was not up to our usual high standards. Previous feedback has shown that cleanliness is something we strive for and care about. Your feedback has helped us to re-focus on this aspect to ensure our future guest's experience is excellent.

August 2014
The house is in an excellent position to the town and for car journey to Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay, lovely walk into town. Beds very comfortable house amenities very good. Car parking for two cars a bonus, our ages ranged from 69 - 8 years old and it suited us all extremely well. Having wi-fi was good also. Having left a sleep comfort teddy behind on leaving, Sykes and the property owner could not have been more helpful and resolved our problem within an hour - finding the teddy and with the promise to send it on..... happy holidaymakers.
Mrs Hickson

July 2013
Service excellent. House spacious, well equipped, lots of unexpected extras, everything needed to cater for a house full of all ages. Location perfect for us with play area opposite and parking for two cars. We like South side of Whitby, only 5 mins quick walk away, flat route better for pushchair. Downstairs separate area ideal for young couple, ensuite perfect for us who paid the bill. Everyone, from the 2 year old to the 67 year old loved the decor, tasteful, yet out of harms way, carefully positioned for safety yet with maximum impact. The spacious living room, kitchen and corridors enabled the youngsters to let off steam despite the typical Whitby weather
Mrs Molloy
May 2013
Perfect large family/mixed group accommodation, although the stairs were a bit of a strain on our elderly relatives (who struggle with stairs anyway). Accommodation had a lovely 'home from home' feel about it. Excellent location.
Mrs Altikulac
May 2013
Property was spacious. Situated close to local amenities. A warm and clean property.
Mrs Graham
May 2013
Our party ranged from 66 to 2 years old. The house catered for the needs of all of us eg space, safety and special child stuff, warmth and peace and privacy for those of later years. The simple, yet stylish, décor and the easy to clean surfaces suited us all perfectly.

March 2013
Really well equipped rental home, ten minutes walk from centre of Whitby or just less than £5 in a taxi. Comfortable accommodation, feels like the owners have put a lot of thought into providing everything to make your stay a good one. Accommodation is over 3 levels so feels spacious. There isn't a garage, it's been converted into a games room/Tvroom but there is parking for 2cars on the driveway. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
Ms Cushin
January 2013

This was our second visit which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location is perfect with 2 grandchildren aged 4 and 6. We will most certainly be returning as there is a small play area apposite the house where you can actually sit and watch the children from the living room window.
Mr Atwill
July 2012
The location of The Shipwrights is great - nice and quiet, easy access arrangements, short walk to centre and attractions as well as the bonus of parking for two cars. We have stayed in a few places in Whitby and for the standard and the budget this is the best yet.
Mr Starbuck

September 2011
Lovely house, with plenty of space, apart from the living room, which wasn't that big, but we made a lot of use of the large kitchen so it wasn't a problem. Nice garden, and a small play park just a few steps away from the house, which is ideal for younger children. Great location - about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Whitby, and what a bonus to have two car parking spaces.
Ms Emmett
August 2011
This accommodation was safe for our little ones. They could be confined in the garden and the safety gates inside made our holiday more relaxing. We felt like we had our own private part of Whitby, away from the hussle and bussle!
Ms Mclaren
August 2011

August 2011
Lovely house in an ideal quiet location. Great parking for two cars no need to take them into town as its just a 10 minute walk away. House great loads of space and kids loved the games room on the lower floor. Plenty of rooms we had 3 adults and 2 kids and never even used one of the bedrooms. Kitchen area is great with a large table and plenty of seating in sitting room. Playground across from house is great too. Would recommend shopping at the local Lidl store. Would definitely recommend this property to others.
Mrs Smart
July 2011
Whitby was excellent as usual and the house was equally excellent and in an ideal position for walking around Whitby. That we had to come home is the only downfall.
Mr Middleton
June 2011
Ideal modern property - plenty of room, great games room, utility room is an added bonus, everything we needed was to hand. Great for parking and walking into centre which is about a 10 minute walk. Great kids playground opposite. Had a great stay and would definitely recommend to others especially those with families.
Mrs Scott
April 2011
The position of the property was ideal for walking into the old and new part of town. The property was very clean - I usually wash all crockery before using when I rent a cottage but I did not do so in this case!
Mrs Cheesmond

Comfortable well equipped and large modern house. Owner's very helpful. Good location if you don't mind walking half a mile to Town and the position means you escape Whitby's traffic problems. Great space if you have children and teenagers with you.

September 2010
This was a really nice, clean and well maintained property about 10 mins walk from the centre of Whitby. The house was great and the town and surroundings had enough to keep two kids occupied for a week. We are looking forward to returning to Whitby next year
The Clegg Family
September 2010
Excellent location, parked the car up and didn't need to get back in it until it was time to come home. Property perfectly matched our familys needs, although would suggest a larger bed, king size or super king in the main bedroom. The room is big enough to take one and would make more comfortable. Would definitely book again.
Mr Trenery
August 2010

May 2010
Excellent family accommodation in a quiet neighbourhood overlooking the River Eske. Beautifully planned and planted courtyard garden. Play area opposite ideal for small children. Excellent meal at 'The Red Chard' in Whitby.

December 2009
The property is clearly a fairly recent new build, and had all the ammenities that you could wish for. The home is split on numerous levels, advantageous if a large number of occupants are staying at any one time. The property is immaculate, spacious, welcoming and is the ideal base for a stay in Whitby itself with the centre being a lovely 10-15 minute walk along the side of the Marina. We have stayed in a number of Sykes properties now over the recent years and this one ticked all the boxes where we were concerned.

December 2009
This was an excellent house for a family. There were 8 of us but there was plenty of space and we were not on top of each other at all. I am reluctant to write too good a review or it might not be available when we want it again!
Mr Colin Dale
December 2009
This is a clean, well decorated house, within easy walking distance to Whitby town centre. It feels like a home and not just a bare holiday let. A lovely place to return to in the evening. We were lucky enough to meet one of the owners of the property, who was very pleasant and checked that everything was to our satisfaction. I can't think of anything bad to say about it. I can only recommend it.

December 2009
A well situated 'cottage' in a modern development a short distance from the town centre. Sitting near the river the area is quiet and has no through traffic and is ideal for supervised children (river1)with a small playpark diectly in front of the cottage. The cottage itself is very well appointed and well decorated throughout. Even for the most exacting individuals this place is absolutly superb. Roomy with a games room to let even the oldest child hide away for some fun. Well equiped modern Kitchen and very clean and tidy when we arrived. Loved the showers. An easy walk from the busy town centre and the Abbey it is a great base for travelling around the local area. The car parking also means that you don't have to battle with the traffic in Whitby!! As it is on three levels it may not be suitable for guests who are a bit less mobile. This is a cottage I would recommend without hesitation and would be delighted to return to. The owners should be commended for the quality of the cottage.
Mr Ruff
November 2009

November 2009
The house was very large, even for 8 of us. The large table in the kitchen was a real focus point for all the family to gather at different times. It was also situated in a lovely area within 10 mins walk to the main part of Whitby.

We enjoyed the property very much would have no hesitation on returning or recommending the property.
Mrs Reeves
June 2009
Small playground opposite house is very useful. Mister Chips is a great place to eat out.
Mr McCann
June 2009
The address was ideally situated for easy access to the hub of Whitby itself, with a walk of only 10/15 minutes in total to reach the beautiful shops/restaurants of the town itself. The Shipwrights , being a mere few years old was an ideal base as reflected in many of its former visitors comments in its visitors book and is one that i'd wholeheartedly recommend. Not wishing to sound like a raincoat train enthusiast, I recommend a steam driven train journey on the old line from Pickering to Grosmount...its superb!
Mr Ruff
June 2009
I have stayed at many holiday homes over the years and I think that the Shipwrights in Whitby is one of the best, its location is ideal for everything you want to do on your holiday. The Shipwrights really made our holiday, the owners of this property take time to make sure that everything is just right.

I was on holiday with my elderly mother and three sisters. The house was extremely convenient for us. We could leave my mother in the house whilst we walked into town. Whitby is an interesting little town, and has some interesting shops. It is a good base for exploring Yorkshire.
