The Old Workshop description

Holiday home
The Old Workshop is a superb cottage in the grounds of a Grade II* listed former mill on the River Goyt, just on the edge of the Derbyshire town of New Mills. The cottage is all on the first floor and sleeps seven people in three double bedrooms (one with a pull-out bed) along with two family bathrooms. Also in the cottage is an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area. Outside is off road parking and access to the river and a myriad of walks. The Old Workshop is a superb holiday home in an historic building set in a magnificent location.

Area
Situated on the borders of North West Derbyshire and Cheshire is the small town of New Mills, forming part of the Derbyshire Peak District. Although the settlement dates back to the 13th Century, the late 20th Century saw the Torrs Riverside Park, often called 'the park under the town' - come into being as a place for recreation and relaxation. To promote tourism in the area, the New Mills Heritage Centre was opened and visitors can enjoy this as well as The Torrs Millennium Walkway, a much-admired bridge set deep within the gorge. Just five miles away is Chapel en le Frith - the Capital of the Peaks - that boasts a cobbled market place complete with historic old stocks. The spa town of Buxton is within easy driving distance and is famous not only for its therapeutic spring water but also for its Pavillion Gardens and splendid Victorian Opera House.

Region
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Gas central heating. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, WiFi, selection of books, games and DVDs. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Nice spacious dwelling. 3 large bedrooms and large kitchen/living area. Good facilities. Seating area outside in woodland. Opposite a very pleasent restaurant/ wine bar. Would recommend the satay chicken. Wifi strong... Lots of walks nearby. One bedroom was right over the outside seating for the restaurant so very noisy till 11.30 on Friday and Saturdays. People who owned the appartment very helpful with a couple of minor issues we had. All in all very pleasent.

This was a fabulous find, a quirky mill conversion hidden down the back of New Mills, right on the river.. It was furnished very comfortably, a huge living area and 3 substantial bedrooms. Ours was a winter trip and it was comfortably warm inside. The kids loved it, there were some books and games in the house and we could walk down the river along a lovely riverside path that started right outside the door. New Mills is an excellent location for accessing the Peaks or the city, I'd highly recommend it.

As a group of 6 friends travelling from all corners of the UK this property and location was perfect.. Rob couldn’t have made things any easier for us and it was great to not have to get in the car for anything all weekend - Tesco delivery made things even easier. Rob was on hand when we had a slight issue with the extractor, and a solution was identified within 30 minutes. Discovering on our arrival that we had access to the large outdoor space and outdoor furniture was a great surprise and I can’t understand why it’s not in the description- we nearly didn’t book this property as we wanted large easily accessed outdoor space, I’m so glad we went ahead and booked anyway. We’re already planning our return next year!!

Fantastic. The website description and pictures didn't do it justice

Property was unique and quirky as you would expect however a four tick rating seemed high in our opinion.. Overal thel property appeared clean however layers of dust over extractor fans, cobwebs hanging from ceiling/beams etc,yes I understand it’s an old building, didn’t need to be there.Towels in one room upon entry weren’t folded & on bed as per the other rooms giving impression that they had been missed on change over. The sofas were not particularly clean and this had been previously commented on in visitor book.We were only left one set of keys for 1st few days which was awkward as the family went separate ways during the day.TV didn’t work over the week due to aerial issues and when it did come on we only had around 6 channels to choose from-not great when you have a combination of kids and rain!Saturday morning we were awoken to noise outside, I went out to find United Utilities had dug up the single track drive into/out of property which had been agreed with owners however we had been given no warning to get our cars out.Luckily I went out just before they drove off and the guys doing the work moved things around so I could just squeeze out past the excavation-if not we could have been stuck for hours. The property has a lot of character and is a fairly good location as a base for the Peak District and Manchester area.Personally I think the pictures shown on the website are from when the property was first listed with most items pictured still being used which is a shame because with a little bit of TLC,this property has the potential to be something special.

We had a great time - the actual accommodation was really quirky and unique, and in an amazing location.. We loved New Mills. While it's not particularly picturesque or quaint as a town, it really is full of charm and interest and we'll go back if we have another opportunity. The surrounding countryside is just beautiful... we just wish we'd had better weather to enjoy it! But The Old Workshop was warm and cosy, yet had plenty of space for all of us to relax and enjoy each other's company. Beds were really comfortable, and we were delighted that the rooms had been configured exactly as we'd asked.

Really interesting conversion.. Very special. Location great for New Mills town centre and walks around the Goyt Valley.

Terrific accommodation suited our needs to the letter, the only criticism I will make is regarding the access roads into the Mill site.. These two roads are classed as 'unadopted roads' and are extremely pot holed which makes for a very bumpy entrance to Tor Vale Mill, I'd suggest they are repaired asap!, as they will only get worse with time. The caretaker, Rob, is a real asset and a very pleasant young man, sincere Thanks to him. The Crispy Cod is well worth a visit for excellent Fish n' Chips

The Old Workshop was a fantastic place for our family holiday.. It was comfy, cosy and quirky and in the most amazing setting. There was so much to do, from walks close by to caves, museums and stately homes and the landscape is breathtaking. We had everything we needed, and any issues that arose were addressed very promptly. We can't recommend the old workshop highly enough, it's a real find and we would love to return.

The old workshop was the most superb place to stay.. An easy walk to the station and town, yet a sense of seclusion is retained due to the vibrant outdoor surroundings. We experienced no troubles at the cottage, finding it a comfortable place for a group of Londoners to retreat!

An awesome place to stay which was homely and unique with an open plan design. The location was great, close to the town centre and with good transport links - the bus and train station were a short walk away. The accommodation was first class and in a peaceful and tranquil location.

This is a beautifully converted mill, spacious enough for 7 people, and well furnished with modern fittings, whilst still being very charming. It is set in a gorgeous area of New Mills with the River Goyt running right outside the window, it makes a perfect base for exploring the local landscape, with lots to see and do in the area. We went in the dead of winter and this was a lovely cosy home to come back to after a day exploring.

The cottage was in an excellent location, close to New Mills, but nevertheless felt secluded. It was quiet and peaceful and very close to the River Goyt and the Millennium Walkway. The property was unusual, in an old converted mill, but beautifully restored. The original machinery was still in the roof space and looked great. The cottage was laid out in a sociable way to encourage communal living. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
