The Old Tack Room in Ibberton, Dorset

From: €300 weekly Guests 4 Rooms 2 Bathroom 1

The Old Tack Room Self-Catering

Holiday home
Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the grounds of their equestrian enterprise in the peaceful village of Ibberton, this charming holiday cottage is furnished and equipped to an excellent standard, with beautiful views towards Bulbarrow Hill to the rear, which is one of Dorset's highest points. The accommodation includes two bedrooms and an open plan living area with kitchen, dining, and sitting area, and patio doors which open out on to the pretty and private garden. The scenic Ridgeway Trail passes close to the cottage.

Area
Ibberton is an attractive little village in splendid North Dorset, which nestles under the ridge of Bulbarrow Hill, within the Blackmore, a short distance from Blandford Forum. The countryside of the area inspired Thomas Hardy (who wrote 'Return of The Native' in neighbouring Sturminster Newton) and is now a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offering glorious walks and wildlife spotting. Attractions including Stourhead House and Gardens, the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury, the impressive abbey and castles at Sherborne, and the lively market town of Dorchester are all a short drive away. Venture a little further afield and you'll discover the Cathedral city of Salisbury, and the bustling seaside resorts of Bournemouth and Weymouth for sun, sea and sand.

Region
Explore the fossils and stunning beaches of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, visit historic Sherborne and Shaftesbury, or enjoy the footpaths, country lanes and thatched-roof pubs Dorset offers.

Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Heron
September 2020
This is a delightful little place way out in the middle of nowhere, be prepared to drive some small roads to get here.. The owners live right next door. They were friendly, unobtrusive and responsive to feedback. Four adults might feel a little crowded in the living room/kitchen area but the separate toilet and shower room helps to minimise queues!

Lots of local facilities closed which was unfortunate but no ones fault

The old tack room is a lovely little cottage in a small quiet village, it’s so nice and peaceful but also within short drives to the sights of Dorset.. Susie was so accommodating of our two greyhounds and there are lots of nice walks and dog friendly attractions around.

Really enjoyed our stay at "The Old Tack Room".. .. Lovely garden and views, we were lucky with the weather and travelled to coast and country. Bella our cockerpoo loved the garden and we were happy she was safe. Sue the owner was friendly and on hand if needed. Accommodation and amenities were well catered for. Satellite would have been a bonus!.. a very pretty area to stay and should we holiday this way again it would be our choice of cottage.
Mr Catty, May 2019

Our small break in Dorset staying in the wonderful Tack Room was delightful.. If you are looking for clean, well equipped rural accommodation then look no further. The Tack room was extremely clean and equipped with everything that one should need in self catering accommodation. Sue the lovely friendly owner was on hand if needed but never obtrusive. Teddy our lab enjoyed his morning ramble in the nearby meadows and the birds nesting and feeding were a sight to behold. We arrived on a Sunday and left Wednesday, which meant we were unable to test the local pub as it was closed Sunday evening along with Monday and Tuesday days. I would definitely recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Old Tack Room.. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable, and we had a great time. It was good to be able to let our dog out into the enclosed garden without any worries! We would return there again.

The Old Tack Room was lovely, me, my husband and our 2 dogs had a wonderful, relaxing break.. The Ibberton Pub was great too, super food. The only thing I would say is that the sight needs to update the pictures as there is a lovely new kitchen and new flooring, a great refurbishment. Thank you.

The Old Tack Room was warm, clean and comfortable.. The paddock to exercise the dog in (on a lead if sheep in field) was useful. Several walks from cottage. In all a lovely holiday.

Everything was as expected and what the nice young lady of Sykes told us on the phone.. Would have wished to see the owner at arrival already.

It is not dog friendly.. List of rules for dog owners as you enter property. Dogs cannot be left unattended which makes it difficult to go out in the evening. Local pub was closed for winter break. Would have been helpful to know this. Woken at 6.30am each morning by owners dogs being let out, setting off sensor light and barking. Their dogs also left excrement in door way of holiday property.

August 2016
A lovely place, friendly (but not intrusive) people.. This is a great base from which to visit the many fascinating places in that part of the world. We were blessed with gorgeous weather but there is a lot to do if it isn't so pleasant. Be prepared for narrow, winding roads! The cottage was exactly as expected, comfortable and well equipped. The twin room was a little cramped, better for children than teens or adults.

The cottage was beautiful and the birds in the garden unbelieveable and fascinating. The weather was not very kind and there was plenty of mud underfoot but we went to the Haynes Museum and the Fleet Air Arm Museum both of which were worth a trip. Every fascility that I can think of was in the cottage and a very high standard of furnishing and equipment plus wine and flowers on arrival. I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage as a centre to tour Dorset
