As a result of its close vicinity to Kinder Scout, this quiet small hamlet is popular with walkers. There are two ways to get to New Mills from Sett Valley, one for serious ramblers who want to go to the Kinder Plateau, the other for families and others who prefer a more leisurely stroll. The Pennine Way's other starting point at Edale is just a few kilometres away. The village has a good selection of taverns, cafes, and restaurants for travellers to enjoy. The Goyt Valley, Castleton, and Buxton, a notable spa town, are all nearby attractions.
