Mr Foster
September 2020
It was a good central location to explore the moors and villages.. Stunning scenery everywhere you look. We loved hearing all the farm animals and being visited by the peacock at the kitchen window. We will definitely be back.
Mrs Matthews, August 2020
August 2020
Cottage was amazing and the view was stunning .. We didn’t want to leave. Now we are back home we miss everything about it, especially all our garden friends , the geese, the ducks, the peacocks. Only thing missing was a local shop for anything you may have forgotten. We arranged a delivery from Morrison’s but we still forgot few things. The local pub, a short walk away was nice, we had couple meals in there. The old cart house is definately one we would like to return to some time.

Just returned from a fabulous week at the Old Cart House and waking up every morning to the amazing views.. The cottage was fab for our extended family of ten with plenty of room for everyone. Our twin grandsons absolutely loved having all the farm animals around them and the freedom to explore everywhere. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
Mrs Needham, August 2020
July 2020
We have had a wonderful 2 weeks at the Old Cart House.. The cottage is set in the most beautiful landscape you could imagine. The owners are just next door running a very busy farm. They work tirelessly but nothing is too much for them so thank you to Andy, Lee and family. The accommodation is arranged so that for 10 people or 2 families there is some degree of privacy. The cottage has all the features you would need for a vacation and everything has been very well considered. We will be back as soon as we can!!

February 2020
The cottage was beautiful, with fantastic views! Almost everything we needed was provided. The cottage was cozy and well presented. Would be fantastic in the summer, with a nice short walk to the local pub only 5 minutes away. There’s lots of different animals around which was great to see... they thought the sheep coming to see them at the window was great! The cottage is dog friendly with stone floors at the entrance, which is great for drying them off after a walk. Lots of parking space and a great outdoor seating area (although it wasn’t warm enough for us to use it!)

December 2019
We spent a great holiday over Christmas at the Old Cart House with extended family.. It was lovely to arrive to a decorated Christmas tree and a bottle of wine waiting! The cottage was a great for the 7-10 of us and 2 dogs - everything is comfortable but also dog/kid friendly (e.g. easy clean carpets). The communal living / dining / kitchen area was great to allow everyone to be together while cooking etc. The open fire was amazing! The location is wonderful, very remote and beautiful, on a road that doesn't go very much further up the valley, so very little traffic. Nevertheless Morrisons found us with our big Christmas food order and its not too far to driver further afield. Luckily it wasn't icy though as that could have been tricky. We had a great day out in Whitby. The pub in the village, the Feversham Arms, is highly recommended, for the food and the really friendly atmosphere, and we really enjoyed their Christmas eve quiz! Only minor complaints would be that the fridge was a bit small (though as it was winter we could chill drinks etc outside), there was no cafetiere or corkscrew (luckily we came prepared with our own) and a little more cutlery would be useful.

November 2019
Farndale is so beautiful and this house was comfortable, homely, well-equipped and spacious.. Great walking off the doorstep. Friendly, welcoming owners and fascinating sheep and domestic fowl all around us. The huge turkey a particular favourite. Wi-Fi excellent, no mobile phone signal. We appreciated the welcoming wine, milk and biscuits. We couldn't find a cafetiere but there is a pod coffee machine. Otherwise this house has everything you need. The perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy pure air and no light pollution. We will be back.
Mr Wood, December 2019

February 2019
The setting where the cottage is located is absolutely stunning and we were blown away by views.. The cottage is next door to a working farm and we all enjoyed watching the animals. The accommodation was perfect for us and we loved the open plan space downstairs. We booked the cottage for my fathers 70th birthday and enjoyed the large dining table for lots of family meals. We would book this cottage again in a heartbeat.
Mrs Howard
December 2018
A lovely welcome from the owners and they had also left us some sloe gin, biscuits , tea, coffee and fresh milk.. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The grandchildren in particular loved the animals round the farm. The location was super with plenty of interesting places to visit nearby. We would recommend The old Carthouse without reserve.
Miss Browne
December 2018
We loved spending our Christmas in a beautiful remote cottage as a large family with 2 dogs, it was amazing with a spacious open plan living area making it perfect for all when cooking, playing games and eating, for everyone to be involved.. The animals on the farm around the cottage were beautiful to wake up to on a morning. We would all love to return to the cottage again! Our only note to make was the amount of toilet roll left was not near enough for a family of 10, with us being there for christmas we didnt plan on making any shopping trips. But other than this it was an amazing stay!
Mr Spreadborough

A lovely week in a lovely place ..
Mr Robinson
September 2018
Kitchen could do with a bit of refurbishment.. Comfort good with bit of loss from Mattress' s on some of the beds as they could benefit with being deeper sprung as they were on solid bed slats, this would make for a better sleep as we are not light people. Other than that everything was great thanks for the welcome pack.we all had a lovely time was lovely for babies to see all the birds and animals x
Mr Spreadborough
September 2018
This cottage had views to die for and nothing but peace and quiet! !! The only noise was being woken in the morning by the resident cockeral!!!! Definitely the place to go if you want peace and quiet!!!!

July 2018
We arrived on 7th July for a week stay. When we got there, there was a bottle of wine on the table and milk & biscuits in the fridge ! The place is huge and fully equipped. More than comfortable - the views are beautiful. My new mate the peacock came to visit every day and I fed him out of my hand from the lounge window. I cannot explain just how lovely this place is. You walk down the lane to the Feversham arms where I promise you you will love that pub as well !!!!

July 2018
This was a lovely cottage, very comfortable and in an amazing setting.. Being part of a working farm it was great to see the animals as well. There were six of us with ample room, but even with 8 adults and 2 children, plus a cot there would still be plenty of room. The kitchen is large and as well equipped as any home with washer, dish washer, cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer. A thoroughly lovely place.
Miss Webb

We had a wonderful weekend! The cottage is ideal for a large number of people and it's open plan living space enables everyone to be together whether they are cooking, eating or relaxing. The local pub serves excellent food and is very conveniently situated at the end of the lane. There are also lots of opportunities for walks with amazing views. This was our fourth stay at this cottage and we will definitely be back!

August 2017
We stayed in this wonderful cottage at the beginning of July for 7 nights and it surpassed our expectations. The area is stunning, the owners are lovely (we arrived to fresh milk, wine and biscuits) and the cottage is extremely well equipped. So much living space and every modern convenience including dishwasher (complete with dishwasher tablets), washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer and microwave. The bedrooms were well set out with clean linen on the comfortable beds, we all slept extremely well. The cottage is located on a working farm so there were lots of animals to see including a peacock and his two peahens. So many lambs and other young animals - we spent a lot of time going "awwwwww'. The moors are breathtaking and the cottage is right in there, we already know we want to go back next year, there is so much to do around that area.

The location of The Old Carthouse was stunning. Owners friendly but not obtrusive. The wildlife was great ....even the noise of the dawn chorus by the cockerel and hens was a pleasant change from normal life. Excellent accommodation for friends to get together with children and dog. Open plan living ideally suited for the group. Sleeping options were all in proper beds - no sofa beds. Lots to do outdoors in locality for dogs and children...lovely food shops in Helmsley and good farm shops.

If you want to get away from it all then this is a fab way to do it. A beautiful cottage which is perfect for a large family break and the beautiful scenery on a cold frosty morning was spectacular. This well equipped clean large cart house which sits on the farm is well worth a visit.
Ms Mckeating

The location was superb. No wi fi or mobile signal made it a more relaxing holiday although there was a landline in the cottage should you need to contact anybody. The owner was very friendly but not intrusive.
Mr Clubb
October 2014
Great place to unwind right in the middle of nowhere with no mobile reception and no broadband. The owners in the neighbouring farm are very welcoming and not at all intrusive - just perfect. Pretty good pub is less than half a mile's walk away and with perfect darkness it's a good place for stargazing. Only 45 minutes from some terrific beaches which our wee dog particularly loved. Highly recommended.

Good size accommodation and friendly owners who let the children look around the farm. Everything you needed and more for a family get together. Even had a large dog crate should you need to confine your pet! Wonderful views over the countryside and amazing sky at night as there was no light pollution. Need to take a head torch though if you are going to venture out in the dark to walk dogs!

This property is far bigger than it looks on the photos and is very comfortable for a large group that includes children. There is plenty of seating, a lovely dining area and lots of crockery, glasses etc. The area is so beautiful and there seems to be no one for miles, yet the little pub is within walking distance if you fancy a stroll. Excellent, would return again for sure.

been 3 times now love it. Fantastic hosts and surroundings. Everything you need want to be there all the time.
J.B.Windmill
August 2011
The family holiday was a complete success. The cottage was excellent for our needs, our hosts friendly and attentive, the weather was kind and the scenery superb. I'd forgotten how glorious are the North Yorks moors. The only criticisms that could be levelled were due to my wife being severely disabled with arthritis. The drive up to the cottage was very rough and bone-shaking, the steps to the house rather steep for her and the settees in the cottage itself were very low and difficult for her to use' However, as I said, that was due to my wife's condition rather than the cottage itself, but it is a point I think Mr Robinson might care to consider for the future.
Mrs Crapper
July 2011
Always have a good time at this cottage. We will be back next year. The hosts are especially friendly and helpful and the surroundings are so peaceful. Had a fabulous time.
Mr Windmill
June 2011
The cottage was very good generally and the location delightful. The scenery around was spectacular and we had forgotten how scenic the North Moors are. Our hosts were friendly and helpful in every way as were, indeed, all the good Yorkshire folk that we met. The whole family enjoyed the holiday very much.
Mrs Newby
April 2011
The location of this cottage is just perfect. It is such a beautiful spot, close to lovely walks, a good pub within walking distance and so quiet and peaceful. The owner and his family went out of the way to make our stay excellent bringing up newborn lambs for the children to cuddle. We woke up every morning to the sound of chickens, cows and sheep right outside our windows.
Mrs Hallworth
November 2010
The perfect 'away from it all' cottage. Didn't arrive until 8pm and a lovely fire was burning, along with essentials. Couldn't have wished for more! 'Feversham Arms Inn' - extremely welcoming and not too far away. Good atmosphere, good food; what more could you ask for?

We found the space to be excellent, with 4 adults and 5 children the separate living areas were brilliant. With having the owners living next door that was a big benefit especially when the downstairs shower did not work! The owners had left a collection of leaflets available which helped when planning our stay. We found the whole experience from our first contact with yourselves, to arriving at our wonderful holiday home to be excellent. This is the first time I have booked with Sykes, but it won't be the last! Thank you!

Location was beautiful. Not too far away from home, but once you got there you could have been a million miles away. The cottage was beautiful and well supplied with everything we needed. The bottle on wine on arrival was a nice touch too.

The cottage was outstanding, the owners very nice and kind. We were close to them, but they respected our privacy. This is a luxury house and everything was perfect. This is a must visit house, even better than advertised...

The accomodation was fantastic, we would definateley recommend it. We had a fantastic Christmas a lovely mixture of sight seeing to Pickering and Whitby and spending time with the family. The accommodation was very well equipped, we cooked a full Christmas dinner with no problems. We loved the open plan layout of the kitchen, dining room , lounge, worked really well for us.

The warmth and generosity of the owners made our holiday, they had the children feeding corn to the hens, stroking lambs and playing with border collie pups! We would recommend this lovely cottage to anyone.
