October 2020
The Milk House is a brilliant house and a perfect base to explore the dales and the Peak District, within 40 minutes drive of Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth etc.. The house is located in Bolehill on the outskirts of Wirksworth and is just a 10-15 minute walk (using the footpath across the fields) into town where there are plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants - there are great walks available locally around Wirksworh. John and Hannah were great hosts and available to help with any queries. We would definitely recommend!

The house was absolutely gorgeous.. The kitchen was really well equipped, the bedrooms were extremely comfy and plenty of large fluffy towels provided. We had lovely weather and were able to eat all of our meals out on the terrace which had stunning views. The location is brilliant for walking with the High Peak Trail at the end of the road and Carsington Water, Chatsworth a short drive

A lovely, spacious house which easily accommodated our family.. Well thought out accommodation giving maximum privacy to each bedroom by putting the bathrooms in the middle of the building. Genius!.All fittings, fixtures, bedding etc. of high quality. Lots to do in this area for all ages.

John and Hannah made a series of nice touches - two bottles of wine (two! !! I could manage one), tea, coffee and sugar all more than we could possibly consume in the week. Plus fresh milk. The accommodation was spotless, fresh and the linen was of high quality. The dishwasher failed on the day before we arrived but it was replaced within 24 hours causing us no disruption at all. And John and Hannah are lovely, helpful people, making it very easy to stay there.

The cottage was fab apart from the water system, if someone’s washing up you can’t have a shower and visa Versa.. Also if staying in the summer the surroundings is just mud but we all had a fab time, the cottage itself was stunning and very comfortable, perfect little getaway

Lovely weekend.. The owner, John, was really helpful and friendly. The house was very well equipped and comfortable. There were flowers and a lovely welcome basket waiting for us. We would be happy to recommend this property to anyone.

We stayed here for 5 nights including New Years Eve.. It was a rare opportunity for us to spend time together as a whole family - 8 adults and a one year old. The house exceeded our expectations - the rooms were lovely, beds comfortable and so much space that we never felt that we were living on top of one another. The owners were very helpful, both before we arrived and whilst we were there - providing directions, helping us to sort out parking spaces and even letting us know they would be setting off fireworks on New Years Eve if we wanted to join them. The welcome pack surpassed anything we have experienced before - wine, biscuits, milk, tea, coffee, crackers, chocolates and more! The house was also beautifully decorated for Christmas which, along with a woodburner in the living room, just made it perfect. I cannot praise this place enough. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it to anyone considering staying here.

We had a wonderful weekend away at The Milk House and the it far exceeded our expectations.. It is beautifully finished and had everything we could possibly need, comfortable beds in huge bedrooms, a large but cosy living room with a log burner and a kitchen with everything that we could possible need. A lovely basket of goodies on arrival was very well received. The views on the sunny, frosty mornings were perfect to wake up to. We enjoyed lots of walks from the cottage doorstep and didn’t use the car once... bliss. We would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you!

Just returned from a weekend with the family staying in the lovely Milk House which exceeded expectations, everything available in the accommodation you could possibly want. Lovely welcome basket with the usual essentials ie tea, coffee etc, plus a bottle of wine! Plenty of space for 8 adults, comfortable beds and furniture. Easy walk into village with the black rocks over the hill. Parking can be limited but we had 4 cars between us and had no problems. Outside space adequate for 2 dogs and perfect sun spot for sitting outside to enjoy the views. Plenty of beautiful walks nearby. Will definitely return. Thank you so much to hosts Hannah and Johnathon.

Lovely holiday here with three generations and dog staying. Very well equipped cottage in beautiful surroundings. A real bonus was the open gardens whist we were staying, which showcased the lovely gardens in the cottages round our rental house. Cottage is very well equipped, and the welcome basket of goodies was a lovely touch. Thank you

Really lovely cottage, could not fault a single thing! Really well equipped and extremely clean. The bedrooms were really spacious and beds comfortable with quality bed linen and pillows. Kitchen was equipped with quality appliances and all the pots, pans and gadgets you could possibly need. We never had any problems getting parking spaces, we came with 2 cars. Plenty of walks from the cottage door, very pleasant walk into Wirksworth, found a great little micro brewery, The Feather Star, well worth a visit, or two! Hannah was very helpful and friendly, hope to visit again soon.

Lovely, clean, warm, spacious (but cosy) cottage. Really nice owners who were there to help when needed but left us alone otherwise. Lovely welcome with a food hamper, and fresh daffodils! Really well equipped. They'd really thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and easy. Good location for exploring local area - and an easy footpath direct to to Wirksworth from cottage, 15-20 min walk. Recommend both the Royal Oak and the Ale House in Wirksworth, and the Northern Light cinema is great (book in advance - tapas looked lovely too). Would definitely recommend the milk house and we've booked to stay there again next year. Only thing I would say is that you can hear a lot from other parts of the house as the floors are essentially just floorboards (but that was probably more to do with us having two noisy young boys!) so might be worth taking ear plugs if you are sharing with others/children!

We were a party of 8. 4 adults and 4 children. Firstly, the Milk house was spotless and finished to a high standard. The property is stocked with everything you'll need. The property is split over three levels and is really good for two families with a twin and double bedroom on each accommodation floor with their own bathrooms. A very thoughtful basket of goodies in the kitchen to welcome us when we arrived too. Just a stones throw from Carsington Water, Matlock and Dovedale National nature reserve. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.

The Milk House in Bolehill, Wirksworth is a charming cottage providing comfortable and pleasant accommodation. It's the second time we've stayed here and we would happily stay again. The kitchen, bathrooms, large sitting room and 4 bedrooms have all been kept in good condition. The decking area is well kept and gives off lovely views of the hills. Each time, on arrival there has been complimentary white and red wine, biscuits, coffee and tea left for us which is a nice touch. There is free parking (8 spaces) 20 yards from the property. All in all I would stay here again and would recommend the location for visits to Bakewell, Chatsworth, Peak District Park and Matlock.

I loved everything about my holiday and The Milk House was lovely. We were only a few days into the holiday when everyone said they would like to come again next year, so we will very likely be back in 2017 .

Arrived at the cottage on the Friday, and was welcomed with a lovely hamper with most things needed until supplies were brought, which included a bottle of white and red! The kitchen was well equipped and well stocked with kitchen essentials. The living room was well appointed, and comfortable with a wood stove log burner, we didn't use as we were fortunate with the weather. The views from the living room were fantastic with a small BBQ and seating area outside. The bedrooms are on a split level, each level sharing and a bathroom and separate toilet. The rooms again were well appointed with good quality furnishing and fixtures, and the bedroom located on the first floor the double which I stayed in was th bed was so comfortable. The cottage sits in the village of Boleshill with great walks, the nearest towns are Wirksworth and Cromford,. PUblic transport we found to be good and reliable, if you want a taxi these are a little more difficult, however we persevered and managed to get one for our night out to the Market Restaurant in Cromford. This is an excellent location for exploring Derbyshire with Carsingron Water and Matlock on the doorstep. Excellent

We had a lovely week here at the Milkhouse, the cottage is very deceiving in size from the outside, once inside the size of down stairs was a pleasant surprise. Plenty of sofas to accommodate a large family to relax at night with the lovely (very hot) log fire. Couldn't have asked for a nicer cottage, it has everything you need, even a washing machine and dryer. The views were lovely from the garden.

The Milk House was the perfect base for our first Peak District walking holiday: the owners were really friendly and helpful. The property was spacious and beautifully appointed, with quality furniture and appliances throughout. The location was excellent, with the High Peak Trail almost on the doorstep and with fantastic views. Would highly recommend the Milk House and we are looking forward to returning in the near future. 10 out of 10!

A really lovely place to stay, it had everything we needed and more. It was warm and comfortable with lots of natural wood and cosy throws. The owners were unobtrusive, friendly and helpful. In a fabulous area for walking and cycling. There was a real feeling of being away from it all.

The cottage was just what we wanted for a family get together. 4 decent sized bedrooms, a large living room and good sized dining kitchen. The view was stunning from the front courtyard and upstairs bedroom. I would highly recommend the property and if we visit that area again I will definitely look at renting once more.

We have just come back from a lovely long weekend at The Milk House, which is a holiday let of the highest quality. We imagine the property has been fairly recently renovated and the work has clearly been done to a high specification with superb joinery throughout. All the furniture is extremely comfortable, the kitchen is extremely well fitted with excellent utensils, crockery and cutlery. The 4 bedroom accommodation worked really well for 8 of us, moreover the owners were extremely accommodating allowing us an additional dog(!) and an extension of our departure time so we could enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the last day. They also left us a really nice welcome pack. There are plenty of good pubs/restaurants nearby although you do really need a car. Needless to say the walking and other activities in the area make for a wonderful break. Highly recommended.

Stayed for a long weekend with 2 families, 4 adults & 4 kid's, each family had their own floor which consisted of 2 bedrooms & bathroom each & we were able to meet in the middle where the kitchen & lounge were. Lovely place with great decor, solid wood everywhere, great log burner & lovely views. Very well equipped & layed out holiday let, we only wish we could have stayed for longer. Would definitely recommend & would return again.

We have just returned home from a 3-night break at the Milk House, for an extended family including Grandma and two teenage grandsons, all of whom were truly impressed by this lovely cottage. Not only is it in a fabulous location, a stone's throw from Black Rocks, and with stunning views of Wirksworth, but it is also extremely well-equipped, with four large double rooms, a spacious lounge and country kitchen/diner, lots of games and good wi-fi. Wooden floors, beams and fittings add to the house's charm. We received a warm welcome from our host, and felt truly at home, thanks to lots of small, personal touches. We will definitely pay the Milk House a return visit!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Milk House. From start to finish, we could not fault our stay. We received a friendly welcome from the owner over the phone prior to our arrival, the directions provided were fantastic and the accommodation far exceeded expectations. As a group of friends, we have an annual weekend away and choosing accommodation can sometimes cause a problem trying to find 4 bedrooms of equal standard. This was not a problem at the Milk House - all four bedrooms were spacious and all equally stunning. The open plan kitchen / diner was very well appointed and had everything you could possibly need! The lounge was spacious and complete with a log burning fire - absolute bliss for a cold January weekend. As a lover of oak wood, this cottage was perfect - complete with solid oak furniture, a beautiful oak staircase and oak beams throughout the property. The furniture was all in perfect condition and the they had the softest bath mat I've ever felt! I literally have nothing negative to say about the Milk House - it was that nice we didn't want to leave!

In a good location a short walk from Wirksworth, with scenic walking countryside nearby. Excellent facilities, well kitted out with excellent sleeping and living accommodation, and child friendly. The rain didn't put a dampener on our stay. I'll certainly come back!

The property was warm, cosy, very clean and tidy. The cottage is well suited for local walks and attractions. There is lots to do nearby and we could have easily stayed for longer. The owners have clearly thought carefully about what they have provided and it shows that they care.
