Area The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.
Region Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

The situation of this property is amazing with panoramic views in all directions.. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace every morning and occasionally lunch and tea in the sunny adjacent field. The house is really beautifully appointed with comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms and a very well equipped kitchen. The owner kindly supplied us with logs and kindling for the fire in the dining room, which was welcome in the evenings.
We had a great family holiday in a beautiful place .. The accommodation was excellent, loads of space to spread out , very clean and the kitchen was especially well equipped to cater for a large group . Good outdoor space for the children . Loved it.

The pictures don’t compliment this house at all, this house is beautiful and accommodated 12 adults easily..
Miss Hall, February 2020
This property was fantastic for a large family get together, the number of bedrooms and bathroom facilities were the best I have found.. It was just as described and the location could not have been better for the beach and walks. I found the check in and information provided excellent. There is plenty of car parking space. When we had an issue this was quickly reacted to by the owner and I would be happy to return in the future.
Mrs Hackney, January 2020
Second visit to accommodation.. We are a party of 12 adults. This is the best accommodation we have stayed in. There is plenty of room especially in the hall for walking boots, backpacks etc. All of our party enjoyed it so much we are going to rebook - maybe for a week this time
Mrs Lawrence, November 2019
Had a fabulous three night weekend here with a group of seven friends.. Absolutely loved the house, perfect for our group, sadly wet weather put paid to our walk to the beach, but the area is wonderful to explore. Had a minor issue with electric lighting, but our owner and host was excellent - always quick to respond to any queries and concerns. The house is well equipped, there was nothing we needed that we couldn't find and the refurb has been done beautifully and tastefully. Would come again and definitely recommend.
Lovely accommodation and hosts..
Excellent contact with owner which is a plus
This is a very large stylish house with amazing views.. It is very comfortable for a large group as it has three communal areas (two lounges and a large kitchen). It is very beautiful inside and is decorated to high standard. There are also lots of bathrooms. The walk to the beach is about 15mins down a steep hill. The beach is amazing with a Castle at one end and Low newton at the other. The area is fantastic and the house is a great get away location.
Fabulous house exceeded expectations views to die for weather an added bonus my .... Fabulous house exceeded expectations views to die for weather an added bonus my family had a ball celebrating my husbands 70th birthday
Will Deffo recommend
Excellent walking location for the coast and beaches.. Car journeys to castles etc. The welcome pack that my wife received was a lovely touch as she celebrated being 70 years of age. Good house for the 'family' consisting of ages 5 to 72. En-suites appreciated. Washing machine drying room very useful. Appreciated the two lounges. Very good kitchen. Enjoyed the fire pit.
Some comments that may be helpful:
A larger freezer (which we gather is in hand)
The heating was variable - very hot upper lounge, but the under floor heating downstairs was not that efficient.
The two sleigh beds would benefit from mattress toppers.
Stone bath plug needs replacing.
A Visitors Book would have been appreciated - we would have added some nice appreciative comments. We had a wonderful week in this lovely house.
Nice house but the furniture in the sitting rooms was not very comfortable
A beautiful large cottage with lovely sea views.. We rented the cottage for a family wedding, all the group said what a fantastic cottage it was and didn't want to leave! We would definitely stay at the cottage again, what a fantastic weekend.Brilliant!
Just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend visit to Embelton/Northumberland.. We stayed in the house called the LOOK OUT in Embelton...what an amazing house it was. It accomodated 12 of us very comfortably and the facilities in house were good.
As the weather was so excellent it was great to sit out front and look down to the sea...fantastic view in all directions.
The only thing we missed was having a few patio chairs or a bench outside on the terrace to sit, there is a great garden area just to the side of the house with picnic tables which we used but when cooking in the house it would have been good just to walk out the front door, sit on the terrace and be near to the front door to pop in and keep an eye on the food cooking.
Plenty of pubs in the village and a shop that sells most things needed.
All in all a great place to be,
Great house in a fantastic location..
Beautiful house and very comfortable with exceptional bedrooms and all bar two with en suites plus small family bathroom.. Plenty of room for a large family. We were 9 adults and 3 small children under 4. The view from the front of the property was fantastic and the owners were lovely and had put a lot of work into the property. The local pub a 2 minute walk away was friendly and has good food and the Joiners Arms is fantastic and not far away. All in all a crackng holiday. Carol York
Stayed with a group of 12 friends and had a wonderful long weekend. The house was immaculate with excellent decor. The facilities did not lack in any way. Lucky with the weather, we managed to explore our surroundings, managing to walk to the ruins at Dunstanburgh. We also walked to a lovely little pub (The Ship) in the other direction. Also managed to see Bamburgh Castle and visited Lindisfarne. Would highly recommend this as a venue for large family and/or friends. Would also recommend a visit to the unique Barter Books in Alnwick, you cannot fail to be impressed.
Mrs Flint, November 2017
My wife and I were particularly impressed with the large and well-equipped kitchen.. The lighting, however, in many rooms- especially the lounges- was on the dim side and the two ships' lanterns over the dining table were impressive but produced little meaningful light.
Mr Taylor, September 2016
Wonderful views every morning when we woke up.. Very nicely decorated and furnished and well equipped. Nice to be so near 3pubs and a shop. Parking good too. Beach down the road, enjoyed grassy area with tables next to house. Felt garden could have had a bit more planting next to wall and out the back was poor.
The house was wonderful and having on suite bathrooms for most rooms was great. The position is stunning and the decor and facilities are excellent. The beds were comfortable and everywhere was very clean. The owner is very helpful and easy to contact if you have any questions. We were a party of ten, the house had enough space to give everyone room to enjoy themselves.

We stayed as a family group of 8 adults and 3 children, from the start we could feel the family atmosphere as we entered this superb house. As we admired the space, decor and views we came across the welcome pack in the kitchen/diner which was a very pleasant and much appreciated surprise which set the tone for a very pleasant family weekend. We had a great family meal in the large dining room where we all could be together whilst preparing in the open kitchen, the children exploring the superb well equipped bedrooms or in the games/ cinema room... Brilliant for them too! The house was so nice you could be excused for locking the door and just enjoying the whole experience inside but we didn't and walked to the nearby beach past the golf course, farmers fields with farm animals and berry picking on the way. We all will remember our stay here not just for the anniversary but the ambience of the whole package... Credit to the owners!

Being together as a group of 12 family and friends in a wonderful house in a beautiful location - just fabulous!
The holiday cottage was very close to the beautiful sea and beach. With 4 young children this was a 10 minutes plus walk but was worth it. Shops, pub and park in walking distance as well. Nice food served at the Golf Club next to the beach. Beautiful village!!

Set in a stunning location overlooking Dunstanburgh Castle, you open you curtains to one of the finest views in Northumberland. Nevermind the weather at this time of year as you are warmed by the cosy underfloor heating and log-burners. The property has been finished throughout to a very high standard. There is enough space for large groups to spread out and find their own spaces whether it is in the well appointed kitchen with large dining table just right for entertaining, or one of the two sitting rooms. The Lookout is tastefully furnished and decorated with calming colours. Traveling with family, we enjoyed walks down to beach and nearby Craster, via Dunstanburgh Castle. The Greys Inn, just round the corner offers a friendly welcome and serves food together with a good range of guest ales. A great base for exploring this area of Northumberland such as Holy Island, Alnwick and Bamburgh. A return visit is assured.
Mrs Charlton-willey, December 2013

Had a great week at The Lookout. The accomodation is a very high standard throughout. The kitchen / dining area is great for big groups to get together, and the views are spectacular when cooking! Only a short walk to the lovely beach and well signposted pathways for walks along the coast. The area is also great for cycling. Our party covered ages 10-82 and there was something for everyone in the area. I would definitely recommend this property.
No off road parking avilable, despite being advertised, but this didn't cause us any problems. There was always space on the raod side.
