We hired this cottage through Sykes cottages for one week starting June 29th 2019. Easy to find after visiting Blarney castle and gardens, the cottage is the old gatehouse at the beginning of a long drive that leads up to the main Cannaway House. Very friendly welcome in collecting the keys at the house, the proprietor then came down to the lodge and showed us the 'in's and out's' and also the invitation to come up to the main house and have full use fo the games room and enjoy a drink form the bar, this we did. Delightful open plan dining/sitting and kitchen area, very large bedrooms all en suite and the appropriate facilities. Perfect location, quiet, fantastic views of the countryside and easy to traverse local lanes and short drive to main routes. We used local eateries/shops in Macroom(5 miles), Coachford(2 miles), and this was our base for exploring County Cork and Kerry and a trip up to Ennis and the Irish Open golf at Lahinch. Wonderful Irish cottage and hospitality, thank you to all concerned.

Cannot say a bad word about the property or the owners, it is a very deceiving property on arrival but it really well maintained.. The rooms were well equipped, the kitchen was well equipped and the living area very nice and comfortable. The heating system kept the property lovely and warm and was very quick to heat up. We found it very easy to locate the property and found the owners very welcoming. We had young children and the spiral stairs weren't ideal but we knew this prior to arrival. They loved the surroundings, met the family pets and really enjoyed the walks around. We would definitely return.

This was a fantastic place to stay for a holiday.. The cottage had everything we needed and was really spacious for our family of 4. The owners lived a 4 minute walk from the lodge and were extremely helpful and hospitable. We were blessed with fantastic weather during our stay, and the location of the lodge meant that we could travel to most destinations in under an hour. Cobh, Cork City, Kilarney, Tralee and Kinsale were a few of our days out, and at night after dinner, we made our way to the owners house were the kids played football on the green, and we played snooker inside. They even have a small bar where you can pull your own pint of Guinness!!!! This was our first holiday doing self catering, but I have to say that it won't be the last, if we can continue to get great places to stay like this one.

From the outside the cottage looked fine and on entering the kitchen all looked well.. However, we were sadly disappointed with the lack of some of the basic equipment for self catering such as a colander, measuring jug or indeed a jug of any sort, oven gloves, tray, washing up liquid, wash basket to take wet washing out to the line to dry it. There were a couple of books on Ireland which did prove useful but, unlike in most other cottages we have stayed, there were very few leaflets on places of local interest which would have provided us with opening times etc. The bedding and towels were ok but the bath mat in the en suite we used was dirty. There was also a dirty teatowel and dish cloth in one of the kitchen drawers. One of the worst things was a dreadful drain smell after using the shower or washbasin in the upstairs en suite shower room and the downstairs toilet. I did leave a note for the owner about this as it might have been caused by a leak.. Everywhere needed a really good clean: the shower screen was water-marked so clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. We couldn't use the dressing table as a previous guest must have left a 'vaping' device in one of the drawers which had leaked a sticky substance and the bottom drawer was sprinkled with wood dust from the dresser having active woodworm. All in all, very poor housekeeping.

Lovely house. Was a bit chilly the first night, but we hadn't quite mastered the heating. Logs left for a lovely stove. Lovely tranquil area, close, by car to all amenities. Not much contact with owners but were advised they were there whenever needed, which we didn't! House was lovely n clean, beds freshly made. Showers worked great. Fault-no sharp knife to prep veg etc, maybe sharp knives are not allowed!! Would go again!!

Jackie is a lovely lady who was very welcoming and informative, the cottage was immaculate.. The beds were so comfortable and beautiful bedding and towels. Lovely hot showers and a cosy wood burning fire. The cottage was very easy to find and an easy 5 mins to Macroom which has all amenities also its in an ideal spot to visit Blarney Castle and we visited friends in Kenmare really easily too. Wish we could have stayed longer!
