Also in the cottage are a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with a woodburning stove. Also included is shared use of a tennis court. Outside are off road parking, a garden with outdoor furniture and a hot tub. Set in glorious countryside, The Hayloft is a lovely property that will live long in the memory.

The village of Bronygarth is situated in the Ceiriog Valley and lies on the Offa's Dyke Path. Just across the River Ceiriog is Chirk Castle with its gardens, medieval tower and dungeon.

Self-Catering Reviews

Simon, the owner? was excellent. Very helpful and he or I fixed most of the problems that arose between us. That said, whilst the cottage was lovely, in a nice area it is starting to look like it needs a good bout of maintenance. The fridge door was broken although if you lifted it up you could still close it so it still worked. The whirlpool bath did not work but the two main showers were excellent. The floor tiles in the lower bathroom needed grouting, The hot tub was hot for the first couple of days but by the fourth day it was too cold to stay in for more than 15 mins so we did not use it again. The kitchen utensils and cutlery was a mixed bag and could do with an update. More space needed around the kitchen table so I would suggest maybe moving the dresser which I doubt anyone ever uses. The sofas in the living area are very low and are looking a bit shabby and could do with replacing. Difficult to eat from the coffee table as seats so low. This cottage is probably more suited to a large group of younger people than to older people. Oh...should mention the very steep slope up to the parking area. An older car would probably struggle to get up and down. Chris

The house is in a nice location but clearly needs some tlc . If we had read reviews which we usually do im sure we probably would not have booked . Previous houses we have never had to complain. 1 owner texts us on day to tell us to bring bath towels but we already on journey ! Complained as hand towels in bathroom it was resolved. 2 loose microwave socket repaired.. 3 leaking conservatory 4 had to buy oven tray only one 5 garden overgrown 7 hot tub playing up but did get engineer out as fault. 8. House had electric heaters and log fire but did get chilly duvets were thin . 9had 10month old grandchild so needed warm rooms

Cottage and facilities very tired definitley not Luxury as advertised.. Trouble with Hot tub every day. Called owner with list of issues first day and consecutive days, granted he tried to put right but mainly due to refurbishment required to the property and its furnishings. Property situated in stunning scenery ,walks etc. Shame the Hayloft did not live upto the advertised description.

Great location, hot tub nice, wood burner comforting - only point for improvement would be a few extra logs for the fire..

Book this place for my sister's 30th and it was great, the owner couldn't do more for us, lovely place to stay, the pool was great, so we left some extra toys there. My family had the best weekend and my sister had a 30th to remember. The hot tube was so much fun. Would defo stay there again

The owner, Simon was excellent and was really tentative to our needs even when there was a slight problem with our hot tub.. I have been on holidays before where we have encountered similar problems but this time Simon sorted it very quickly which was great. The shared pool is great too, overall the Hayloft is a great property with great facilities made even better by excellent customer service.

Most enjoyable time at The Hayloft.. Would maybe benefit from a wee bit of maintenance,ie spent light bulbs replaced and outside areas around the cottage swept and cleared of dead spiders and webs.

Facilities a bit worn out! Pool was too cold to get in a loads of lights not working so very dark! House nice but a bit cold so had to have log burner on which is ok if you have enough logs! Front porch leaked and shoes all got soaked. Lovely owner though and very accommodating. We did have a lovely stay over new year and the countryside is beautiful. Visit the aqueduct for walks and chirk castle.

I'm so sorry I didn't submit this review on Trip Advisor as soon as we got back. I now see some other poor family has been through the same unpleasantness. I only held off writing it as I'd raised a complaint with Sykes Cottages and was awaiting a response. I've finally had a response which is most unsatisfactory. The property is still being advertised using the same glowing adjectives when it should be taken off the rental market. Here is the review I submitted to Sykes, which has not yet appeared on their site. This property is described as 'luxury', with a 'well equipped kitchen'. I would describe it as 'basic' with a 'poorly equipped kitchen'. We had trouble opening the door to the place as it catches on the roof. There was no welcome pack of any kind and no instructions for bin collection/recycling etc. There were no toilet rolls. There were cobwebs in the corners of some rooms so we acquired a smelly vacuum cleaner from a shared laundry room and cleaned them up. The conservatory (also the living room) smelled of cat pee and the sofas and chairs were well worn, saggy and uncomfortable. Also the sofa had no back to it. The chandelier had twelve bulbs, only six of which were working. The dining table, described as 'magnificent', was simply a large wooden table surrounded by uncomfortable chairs with no cushions. The oven was dirty with a badly stained glass door, the cutlery was cheap and mis-matched, as were the wine glasses and crockery. There were two tin openers, neither of which worked. There was also no frying pan. The pots and pans were cheap, nasty and dirty and one had a broken lid. We bought a scourer (non provided) and scrubbed the pans and oven, but with limited success. The scissors were useless and couldn't even cut a plastic bag. The 'sumptuous' four poster bed had a cheap duvet which was too small for the cover. The other double bed had a broken spar and was missing a number of slats. The curtains in the small twin room are moth eaten and full of holes. The shower pressure in the downstairs bathroom was very poor. The bathroom is shared and the slider was missing from the bolt so the door couldn't be locked. There was a sharp piece of metal sticking out of the bannister which cut somebody, we covered it with duct tape. The socket for the heated towel rail in the large upstairs bathroom is hanging off the wall. Also the shower tripped out regularly and had to be reset from the electrical control panel. The jacuzzi water didn't look or feel very clean and the lid is well worn and torn and has to be manually lifted off and on. It's very heavy so is not an easy task. I spoke to the owner and told him I was going to leave bad feedback. I gave him a couple of examples, but as the list was so long and most of the issues couldn't be easily resolved, I didn't have the time or the inclination to discuss them. What the owner did say was that Sykes had inspected the property at the end of last year and had given them a clean sheet. This I find very disconcerting and it has shaken my faith in Sykes ability to appropriately grade properties. I've stayed in luxury properties booked through Sykes and never had a complaint. If I were the owner of a luxury property, I'd be very upset if my property was deemed to be comparable with this neglected and unloved example.

We booked The Hayloft for our Easter holiday with our 4 children through Sykes cottages which we have used many times before. A 4 tick property is our minimum and usually ensures a very high standard property. However, not on this occasion! The property was dirty, shabby and lacked basic equipment such as trays to use in the oven. In fact, the oven itself was filthy and one of the shelves was missing which made cooking for six extremely difficult. It also lacked a vacuum cleaner so we were unable to clean up after ourselves. The plug holes in every shower were slow draining and full of other people's hair. Also the bed linen in the master bedroom were marked with what appeared to be blood. At every other property we have stayed at there has been an instruction manual which includes useful information on appliances, heating etc as well as important information on local hospitals, shops and local attractions. There was nothing at all. In fact we had no hot water for the last couple of days. The hot tub was dirty and the cover was broken and covered in dirt and mould. The gardens were untended and there was no outdoor furniture to sit out on except a shabby picnic bench. The so called facillities consisted of a swimming pool which was very dirty with inadequate changing facilities in a wooden building which needs repair. The games room was locked for most of the week but when open consisted of a single broken table football game. Overall, the whole games complex was run down, filthy with paint peeling from the walls. We decided to leave early as we were so disappointed.

We all had a lovely time at the hayloft.. Lovely weekend for lots of special family birthdays. House was lovely, gorgeous log burner and lovely rooms. Hot tub was a complete hit with the kids and plenty of space to chill out in the house. Kids also enjoyed the swimming pool! Only slight negative (and not really a negative) was that the communal facilities (gym, squash, sauna and to some extent the swimming pool) were a bit tired and possibly in need of a refurbishment. However, it was very good value for money and this probably took into account the slightly dated communal facilities.

The Hayloft is in a perfect location for a quiet holiday. The shared amenities; the swimming pool, sauna, gym, tennis and squash courts were used daily, and also the hot tub, all were great additions to the cottage. The owner was very helpful on arrival advising regarding local walks and good pubs. Nine of us stayed all week with plenty of room. We will definitely be going again.

We liked the layout of the house and the bedrooms were really nice. We loved that the conservatory could sit us all together and the hot tub was lovely.

The cottage was much better than we expected. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and were adequate for ten people although the fourth bedroom was a little small. The bathrooms were excellent. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was everything we needed for our stay including a dishwasher, washing machine and freezer. The lounge had a wood burner which was much appreciated as the weather wasn't very good. The cottage is well maintained and the owner was very pleasant and helpful. The cottage is so ideally situated for exploring the area and there were several nice restaurants and pubs within a reasonable distance. There are lovely views of Chirk Castle from the cottage and some lovely walks. Easy to get too loads of historical sites. The kids particularly enjoyed the hot tub and the swimming pool. Overall a very enjoyable break.
