The Dairy Family Cottage Self-Catering

Holiday home
This barn-conversion still retains much of its original charm through the retention of features such as exposed beams and stripped-pine flooring. The property has a wonderful farmhouse kitchen and a games room with table-tennis, table-football and a pool table; ideal for entertaining younger guests. In the summer months, French windows take you out onto a patio from which you can enjoy a glass of wine on a summer evening. In the colder seasons, the property has central heating throughout, making it a superb and spacious base for groups of up to eight people.

Area
Rossett lies just inside the Welsh border, sitting on the banks of the River Alyn. It is surrounded by good, gentle walking country with much of the landscape being very flat, although hills do rise to the south and west. The village itself is made up of many striking buildings, such as Trevalyn Hall and a church that was built in 1892 by two architects and uses tubular bells to peal. Rossett is well situated for visitors to explore local attractions such as Chester Zoo, the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm and the ancient ruins of Beeston Castle. The River Alyn offers sport and tranquillity for fishermen and wildlife enthusiasts alike. Herons, cormorants, water voles and kingfishers are still to be seen along the Alyn and the fishing is plentiful.

Region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

More than 3 wine glasses would have been useful, but we managed with the pint tumblers!

Highly recommend the superb accommodation here at Coxwood Farm.. Such a great location for exploring castles, towns and countryside. The kids loved the farm animals and the games room (fresh duck eggs were amazing!). We stayed in the large Dairy cottage - lovely cottage with huge rooms, ensuite and bathroom upstairs, so many facilities and every day items (DVD, Hoover, microwave, toaster etc) Variety of small shops and parks close by. Highly recommend.

Please can you tell me why a short break such as I have just been on here costs the same for seven nights as two? Especially when the property has no bookings either side of my booked dates?? That aside....we had a nice time ...just one disappointment was the playbarn which was being used as furniture storage and was quite dirty ...the pool table being covered with bird droppings....my seven yr old grandson was upset he couldn't play....I appreciate it's winter however facilities described should really be the same the whole year as stated when paying these prices... The owner Jimmi was very pleasant and helpful and kindly gave us extra time to pack up and leave. And the welcome pack and fresh eggs a nice touch. Yes I would consider going again if the price was reasonable.

Boiler generated a fault which left a diesel SMELL in the house.. The landlord acted quickly. This was just one of those things and disappointing but would not put us off going back. Great location and a really good time.

We were very pleased with our stay at dairy cottage and found it better than expected in all respects.. When we arrived we found the house much too hot and had to turn all the thermostats down; the central heating was just too efficient! Would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to every body who wanted a very modern property, set deep in the country but close to all shops and restaurants.

The Dairy is a lovely cottage So peaceful and enough seating in both lounge and kitchen.. Lovely and warm and cosy Jimmy was so helpful and even offered to transport us to the pub for our meal and to pick us up again. There is a big outside building with snooker, table tennis, bar football for every one ne to play however we didn't use this as we took the wii with us and time just flew playing on the wii. Last day we put our order in for fresh eggs to take home. Although you are joined to cottages you don't hear any noise from the other cottages. Will defo return

The owner was very helpful and even gave us fresh milk and eggs on arrival.. The drive in has been re-surfaced since the last time I was there, what a difference it makes, no more dodging potholes, will definitely be back and I would recommend the property to anyone.

Very lucky with the weather, we had 2 sunny and hot weeks to explore the country from here. The Dairy was an excellent place for us to drive to various place within an hour or so drive. It is homely, had all we needed with the terrific addition of the play barn to make the most of in the evening, improving our pool and table tennis each evening, keeping us from the world cup. It also has a nice quiet seating area for chilling with a book and glass of refreshment. There is a nice walk to the local coop in Marford, which also had a nice refit. AS mentioned, the house is central to visiting various places enabling us to visit Chester Zoo, Welsh Coast, Llangollen, The Aqueduct and Ty Mawr Country Park, Oswestry (British Iron Work Centre), Ellesmere, Chester, Wepre Park amongst others. Getting Tesco in Wrexham to deliver our first pile of shopping worked out really well too. I must also mention that Jimmi, the owner, was very attentive and helpful throughout, guiding us with where to go and in and around the property with a couple of minor things. A lovely friendly guy.

Would be useful to have more information about how to use the hot water system etc.. Also a problem in that to have hot water, you had to have a heater on, which was very uncomfortable in the warm weather. Felt decor looked rather tired - worn carpets, holes in the walls. Fittings lose in the ensuite bathroom. Size of the accommodation good - plenty of space for everyone. Area very pleasant.

Had a great week at 'the dairy', our 2nd visit.. Facilities are great with plenty of things for the kids to do. Makes a fantastic base for exploring with loads of places to visit within an hour's drive. Booking though Sykes Cottages was simple and went without any problems. Highly recommended.

Nice family oriented property.. With a toddler as part of our group the setting adds the interest of farm life with cows in the field close to the cottage. Adequate space for all of us.

The cottage was in excellent condition, with good facilities for the children, plenty of space for relaxing, food preparation etc.. The main downside was the lack of wifi, which combined with lack of mobile phone signal made it extremely difficult to contact people for visits etc. We had been promised that the wifi would be up and running by the Monday, but in a chance encounter with the farmer, he revealed that the "partnership" had broken down and that Mrs Davies had in fact cancelled the wifi account 3 weeks earlier. Being lied to in this manner does put me off returning to this particular cottage, even though it is well situated for visits to family. The only other negative was the state of the drive, which was full of deep potholes. The farmer said that these were going to be sorted as soon as the weather allows, but I suggest that this is given some priority as it will put people off.

We all enjoyed our stay at the Dairy; my wife and I, my daughter 3 grandchildren 3 -9. The dairy was spacious, comfortable and clean with everything we could need. Loads of safe space & facilities for the kids. Convenient for Chester, Wrexham and North Wales. Would certainly recommend.

Comfortable, spacious and conveniently located holiday property. Well equipped and easy to access. We had a very enjoyable holiday, helped by excellent weather. There are lots of interesting places to visit within a short distance from the property and there are plenty of walks locally to enjoy. The owners are helpful and friendly. We are keen to return to the property to explore the area more fully in the future.

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Dairy - with hubby, sister-in-law and another friend. Immaculate cottage, excellent facilities, large kitchen, large separate lounge and three lovely sized bedroom, the double having its own en-suite. Bev had left a lovely sponge, milk and other essentials to start our holiday - a really nice touch! Had a lovely time one evening in the separate games room trying to learn to play table tennis! Bev and her family were so welcoming. Will definitely go back as there are plenty of places to visit in the area.

Have just had a weeks holiday here. Cannot fault it at all! Everything was perfect about the accommodation and very private play area for children. Lots of space too in the property, bearing in mind it was five adults and one child in the cottage. Owners were also really pleasant to deal with and very helpful. Can highly recommend this cottage. Would go back there if in the area for future holidays.

the cottage was lovely although some of the crockery could do with updating, there were six of us in the party including two young children, who had the run of the garden, the setting in the farm feels open and uncluttered, the owner was on hand had we needed her but was unobtusive the rest of the time. would recommend it for young family who dont mind travelling for shopping and entertainment

The owner was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The setting was wonderful and my grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed having the run of the garden and the proxy cat which came with the cottage! Local amenities are some way away but then this adds to the charm of the peace and quietness.

This house offers rural peace and quiet whilst being close by car to lots of varied activities within and around the historic city of Chester. The owners provided lots of useful information for those not familiar with the area, and there is something for everyone to do whatever the weather in this region, The swings and large trampoline in the garden were appreciated by my young nephew. Two of the bedrooms are larger than most - one a double bed ensuite, and one with twin beds - but the third one is a much smaller twin room. The provision of a cot was very helpful. Downstairs has a spacious lounge with plenty of comfy sofas (one sofa bed) and direct access to the patio and garden. The large kitchen diner has room to seat 8 at the table, so the property can easily accommodate large families or extended groups. . Most needs have been considered by the owners - the usual DVD/video/TV package etc, but also books and some games are present and the kitchen is well stocked with equipment, including a high chair. The property was also very clean. However, during our stay in early May 2010 there were a couple of important reasons why we were all relieved to be staying only 3 nights. The mattresses on all the beds were long past their best and were very uncomfortable. These need to be replaced to bring the accommodation up to the required standard for a comfortable stay. Secondly, two of the bedrooms have velux roof windows with no blinds fitted on them so we were woken far too early by light flooding into the rooms. On a more minor negative note, some of the towels provided were extremely small for the job - one "hand towel" was no bigger than a large facecloth! Overall, we enjoyed our waking moments in the house, but had difficulties with the sleeping moments, due to the problems listed above. This is a shame, as it marred our experience of an otherwise lovely house. I hope these issues are soon fixed and then all who visit will have a great break I am sure.
