Mr Loftus, September 2019
The owners were very welcoming on our arrival.. The cottage provided an excellent base for our two week holiday in Ireland. It is in a relatively quiet spot about 5 miles outside the town of Castlebar. It was cosy and quite comfortable with lots of thoughtful personal touches, although it could do with an additional small sofa/loveseat-size soft chair to really give two people a space to stretch out and relax after a day's touring. Currently, aside from the 4 wooden dining chairs, there is just the one small sofa and a wicker chair available. The kitchen area was well stocked with utensils and appliances though no dishwasher was available which might not be suitable for some people. There was a separate utility room with washing machine but no dryer. The property could use an airer on which to hang washing. The satellite TV system doesn't work at all but there are basic RTE TV and radio stations available. The wi-fi was excellent. We had no problem with connectivity and were able to play radio stations via the BBC iPlayer Radio app and stream Sky TV from our devices without any difficulty which largely made up for the lack of satellite TV. The property was well stocked with books, board games and useful travel information. The mezzanine level bedroom (containing 2 single beds) is useful if needed and accessed via a fold-down ladder from the main room though it proved to be very noisy throughout the house when used. Overall in spite of some drawbacks it was a restful cottage in a lovely spot which we looked forward to returning to each night. The outside table and chairs proved a delightful sitting/reading area on sunny days.
